Overview

This document provides information on how to generate the LSA Trust Report. This report pulls in all the transaction and balance information from your Clio trust account, which can be used to verify compliance with LSA trust accounting requirements.

For the LSA Trust Report to pull in the correct information, your Clio trust account(s) must be set up correctly. For more information on creating or editing accounts, see the Clio “Managing Accounts” support article.

Generating the LSA Trust Report

Uploading the LSA Trust Report

Generating the LSA Trust Report First, ensure that the Responsible Lawyer’s Member ID number has been entered under the Lawyer Registered Number on your profile page in Clio.

To generate the LSA Trust Report, click on the “Reports” tab. Then scroll down to “Compliance Reports” and click on “LSA Trust”.

Select “Custom” from the dropdown menu, choose your date range, and click “Generate Report”.

The LSA Trust Report will be generated and downloaded to your computer. An Open/Save dialog box will appear prompting you to either Open or Save the report.

Save the report and note the location of where the file was saved. For example ThisPC\Documents

Before uploading the LSA Trust Report to the Law Society of Alberta, you must edit the file name. To do so, right click the file and select “Rename”. The file name will look something like this:

For the file to upload successfully to the Law Society of Alberta, you need to delete everything after the “Clio” in the file name. The resulting file name will look something like this:

Ensure that there are no spaces or any other characters after “Clio” in the file name

How to upload files to the Law Society of Alberta

1. To access The Law Society of Alberta Secure File Transfer, please visit: https://ftp.lawsociety.ab.ca

2. The user must first log in using the email address and password provided by the LSA. The login email and password will be sent separately to the Responsible Lawyer at the participating firm. (Sample email below)

Thank you for using The Law Society of Alberta Secure File Transfer.

3. At the Secure SFTP website login screen enter the username and password.

4. If this is the first time logging in, the user will then be required to change the password.

If you have participated in the upload in previous years, this step is not required.

Note: the password created must contain at least one capital letter and one number.

Please keep the login and password in a safe and accessible place, as it will be required each year to submit the Accounting Upload.

5. After correctly creating a new password the following screen appears. Click ‘OK’.

6. Click on the “Send File” tab.

7. Click “Choose File”

8. The following dialogue box appears and the user must use the path information they copied down earlier to find the file for the upload.

a. Note: if this action does not work, you can locate the file manually by clicking on My Documents, and then double click on the folder where the file was saved, then choose the file to upload.

b. Check the date on the files you intend to submit to the Law Society to ensure the

correct file is provided.

9. There will be one TT file to upload. The file will look something like this:

10. The file to be uploaded will be displayed on the Send File screen.

11. Once the required file is selected the user must click the “Send” button. The file will upload. Please wait while the file uploads – status bar will indicate the progress. Once the file has been sent the following screen will appear to alert the user that the file has been successfully transferred. You may click the Sign Out button to end your session.

12. You will receive a receipt notification that your file has been received by the LSA

How to reset your password 1. Password Reset: If users forget their password for the data upload, enter the main

screen per Step 3 above, and click on ‘Forgot your Password?’ Enter your email address and then click ‘Submit’.

You will see the following screen and a temporary password will be sent to the email address entered. Click OK.
