Clinton's Assault On Charitable Giving

HILLARY CLINTON’S COLLEGE PLAN INCLUDES AN ASSAULT ON CHARITABLE GIVING ARLINGTON, VA – Today, Hillary Clinton will reveal her newest spending proposal, a $350 billion college affordability plan. Clinton’s campaign has said limiting tax deductions for the wealthy, including limiting the charitable giving deduction, will pay for the plan. This is another example of how Hillary Clinton’s plans are just out of touch with reality. Not only does Clinton’s proposal threaten charitable giving, but her plan is also one that has been rejected every year during Barack Obama’s presidency, including by Senate Democrats. Clearly Clinton simply wants to have the third term of a failed presidency with an idea rejected numerous times on a bipartisan basis. Without a pay-for based in reality, her new spending plan would just blow a $350 billion hole in the budget. Clinton’s $350 Billion College Affordability Plan Will Be “Fully Paid For” By Limiting Tax Deductions For The Wealthy Clinton’s Proposed $350 Billion College Affordability Plan Will Be Paid For By Capping The Value Of Itemized Deductions Wealthy Families Can Take On Their Tax Returns. “But her proposals, which would cost $350 billion over 10 years and include new refinancing options for those already struggling with debt, are an aggressive response to what many Americans — Democrats and Republicans alike — see as a worsening crisis forcing young adults to move back home with their parents and struggle to get out from under repayment bills. … Mrs. Clinton would pay for the plan by capping the value of itemized deductions that wealthy families can take on their tax returns. The tax and spending elements of her proposal would need support from Congress — a tall order, since it is now run by Republicans — while the plan’s goals would depend on support from state governors and legislators, more and more of whom have been Republicans recently.” (Patrick Healy, “Hillary Clinton to Offer Plan on Paying College Tuition Without Needing Loans,” The New York Times , 8/10/15) “Fully Paid For: This Plan Will Cost In The Range Of $350 Billion Over 10 Years – And Will Be Fully Paid For By Limiting Tax Expenditures For High-Income Taxpayers.” (“Hillary Clinton’s New College Compact,” Hillary For America’s The Briefing Factsheet , Accessed 8/10/15) “The Campaign Said It Would Pay For It By Limiting Deductions For Upper- Income Tax Filers, Which President Barack Obama Has Repeatedly Proposed Without Success.” (Laura Meckler and Josh Mitchell, “Hillary Clinton Proposes Debt-Free Tuition At Public Colleges,” The Wall Street Journal, 8/10/15)
