What is climate? Climate is the weather condition prevailing in
an area over a long period. OR
A long-term weather pattern that describes a region.
Therefore,
Climate Change is a long-term shift in the statistics of the weather (including it’s averages).IT IS AS A RESULT OF GREEN HOUSE EFFECT

Why is the Climate Changing?
Human activities is the major source of climate change. Some of these activities may include:
fossil fuel combustion.Deforestation.Respiration.Other sources include;Transportation.Decomposition.
![Page 5: Climate CHANGE.. What is climate? Climate is the weather condition prevailing in an area over a long period. OR A long-term weather pattern that describes.](https://reader035.fdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062516/56649e5d5503460f94b55fd2/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
These human activities results in the emission of four principal greenhouse gases(major cause of global warming); carbon dioxide(CO2), methane (CH4), Dinitrogen I oxide (N2O), and water vapor(H2O).

• CARBON DIOXIDE (C02)
It results from;Fossil fuel(oil, coal, gas) used in
transportation, cooling and heating of building, and manufacture of cement
Deforestation, which inhibits the uptake of CO2 by plants.
By natural process such as decay of plant matter.

• METHANE (CH4)
It results from, Natural gases. Decaying organic materials from
landfills.

• It results from,Fossil Fuel combustionFertilizer usageNatural processes in the soil also releases
N2O.

effects of CLIMATE CHANGE
Melting of glaciers can cause flooding and soil erosion.
Rising temperature will cause shifts in crop growing seasons which affects food security
Temperature increase will potentially severely increase rates of extinction for many habitats and species.
![Page 14: Climate CHANGE.. What is climate? Climate is the weather condition prevailing in an area over a long period. OR A long-term weather pattern that describes.](https://reader035.fdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062516/56649e5d5503460f94b55fd2/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
A rise in extreme event will have effects in the health and lives as well as associated environmental and economic impacts.
More precipitation in some areas and not enough in others

Possible Solutions to CLIMATE CHANGE
ReforestationSequestration of CO2( forming stable chemical
bond between CO2 and other agents) e.g. by pumping CO2 into the ground.
Use renewable energy sources like Sun, wind.Reduction of global dependence on fossil fuel
by providing other alternative means
Such as ;

biofuel(fuels produced from organic matter such as starch, wheat, and animal fat).
Walk and bicycle more.
