Clifton Creek Primary School MATES Friday mates was fantastic…lots of creative ideas. It is amazing to think how our seniors can somehow weave cooking into their sessions! To their credit we had football ovals out of cake, fruit kebabs (a healthy snack after sport), footballs made from lolly bananas and apricot people skipping! Some creative artwork was also a feature of the session- painted rocks and sports fields made from recycling. Lastly of course there was lots of physical activities including soccer, skipping, darts and football. Principal’s Day Last Friday, 13th September, was “Principal’s Day” and this

morning in recognition the children have presented Carol

with a book titled “Sincerely” signed by themselves, the staff

and school council members.

Carol, we just wanted to acknowledge the wonderful job that

you do in your unique and varied role wearing the many hats

of Principal, Class Teacher, Councillor, Drummer, Concert

Director and the list goes on..! Thank you for everything that

you do and all that you are, for your care, understanding and

support of our small school community, it is appreciated

beyond words.

Happy Principal’s Day 2013...

From all your people (big & small)

at the Little School on the Hill

Mini gym open! We started off making tepees and thought “Why not make a gym’. Will and Nick made a little gym with 2 trees and put a big branch in the middle so that made a chin up bar. We decided to move the gym into part of our mudbrick classroom. We had to clean the room and make a space for some gym equipment. We have two hand weights, an exercise bike, a boxing bag, a punching bag and a small exercise ball to use for sit ups. Jenny showed us how to warm up and cool down safely. Children put their name on a blackboard and spend ten minutes at the gym. We show them how to use the equipment safely. We did it because we wanted the kids at our school to be fit. The gym is very popular. By Nick, Will, Kasey and Naomi.

We were delighted to look in the

chook pen and see more baby

guinea pigs. Obviously happy

healthy guinea pigs at CCPS as

we seem to have a lot of them!

Our three new additions!

Open Day

Reminder to all that we are

hosting our kitchen/garden open

day this Thursday here at

school. Please come along……

Friday Wish On the last day of term we will have Ivan and Zoe’s wish of a Footy/Sports Day. Children are asked to dress up in their favourite football teams gear. If you do not follow football, why not dress up as your favourite sports person.

HEAT UPS A reminder that Monday Heat Ups is for simple microwave re-heating of leftovers, and should not be another task requiring staff to cook meals. Please if you are sending something like 2 minute noodles, cook them at home and we will heat & season them at school.

School Council met last Wednesday evening. Items discussed included: Safe Water Supply Policy, Finance report, Principal’s report, Parent Opinion Surveys, Principal Day and World Teacher Day.

Mini Fete Children have taken posters to display in shop windows advertising our mini fete. Letters have been delivered to most businesses with many donations coming in already! We are all very excited! Please mark this date in your diary.

Tuckshop will run tomorrow with lots of cheap things to buy. We want to clear out the fridges ready for next term so bring along some small change.

AACS- Thanks again to Nyrie/Kat and Tanya for running our Active After School program. Active will start in week 2 next term.

Bus Fees A reminder to families that bus fees are due at the start of term unless other arrangements for payment by instalment have been made. Term 4 has eleven weeks—fees for single users are $374 and for families with two travellers the fees are $467.50

GARDEN PRODUCE Thanks to Ray for dropping off some amazing home grown beetroots & to Jason for a great supply of lemons. We will sample some kitchen treats on our Open Day.

Cyber safety The children in the senior room have been discussing the safe use of the internet and social media. The children discussed what it means to be a good friend so they know how to recognise if they are being bullied. We then defined cyber bullying and the tools bullies use, such as texting, negative posts etc. We also discussed the importance of keeping personal information off the internet and what to do if you are worried or feel unsafe when using the internet or social media.

Friday Fang There will be no Friday Fang this week. Thank you to Mel/Nyrie and our grade 6 students for running Fang this term. There will be a new Spring/Summer menu out early next term.

UNIFORMS New stock has arrived and we now have poloshirts in all sizes. As usual we encourage you to send back any unrequired items that may still be useful for families who wish to swap/ buy pre-loved.

Our new fish have names, voted on by the little class. We have Rex (orange) and Loopy (black), and the small fish are Zip, Zap and Zop (which is a counting game)!

On Friday, the children were very lucky to share a great sporty mates session with their big mates! There were ball games, skipping, crafty things and also cooking, all around the sporty theme. ! Everything was very well planned and organised.

In Maths we looked at number lines as an addition strategy, and explored how a number line does not need to start at zero, but simply where you need it to start.

As individuals the children thought about how they learn best, and we modified the set up of our classroom to reflect this. Working alone or with somebody, on a table or on the floor, in a quiet or noisy space etc were considered.

Can't believe it's the last week of term! Wishing you happy, relaxing holidays everyone. Thanks, Kat

During the week in the senior class last week we read 'Catching Air' and ‘Dolphins’ in guided reading. We started a class story and continued with our individual stories. In maths we continued with our problem solving and counting by 4s and 6s starting at any number. In art we continued with our tie dyed crayon pictures and started on monster paint blowing. Have a great holiday! Jen Thankyou to Robyn, Kat, Jenny and Nyrie for another productive and enjoyable term. Have a well earned rest ladies!

Happy holidays

everyone! Remember we finish early finish on Friday afternoon—the bus will be running an hour earlier than usual.
