Process for Establishing Cut Scores• Eighty-one Arizona educators participated in the AzMERIT
Standard Setting Workshop• Using the Bookmark method, these panelists recommended
performance standards (cut scores) for AzMERIT utilizing various group formations
• Standards were compared to International, National and Consortium tests
• ACT• National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
• Commonly referred to as the Nation’s Report Card• SMARTER BALANCE• Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA)
• International assessment
• Consistency and reliability in scores were the results

• AzMerit is a criterion-referenced assessment• This measures what students should know and be able
to do; a measurement of our standards
