Family Resource Center Appreciation Celebration 2006-2011

To honor the dedication and commitment provided by the individuals that make an impact on the families in our communities everyday

FaCT OverviewFamilies and Communities Together (FaCT) is a 16 year partnership between the County of Orange Social Services Agency and Orangewood Children's Foundation supporting a network of community based, collaborative family resource centers.

We are all committed to a shared vision

That all our children grow up in stable, nurturing families and safe, supportive communities that promote healthy development and provide opportunities for children, youth and adults to achieve their full potential as caring, responsible, and productive members of society.

Commission InvestmentsOur FRC platform has benefitted from several innovative programs funded by the Children and Families Commission of Orange County through our administrative partner, Orangewood Children’s Foundation:

FaCT and the FRCs have been able to leverage FaCT funding with other funds and resources including in kind donations and services.

•Successfully relocated to a newly renovated site establishing a positive and strong presence in the community

•Received BIS KIDS grant program teaching children skills for a drug free future.

•Successfully launched the Differential Response program in collaboration with the SSA and Western Youth Services

Anaheim/Fullerton Family Resource Center


•Hosted a Community and Families Health and Resource Fair for the last three years where twenty tons of food was distributed and almost 500 families were linked to valuable resources.

•Western Youth Services launched a successful fatherhood workshops impacting positive male parent involvement

• Interval House was instrumental in linking over 400 clients affected by domestic violence.

•Olive Crest provided 6-week parenting workshops to nearly 400 parents who were taught to build positive, enjoyable and healthy relationships with their children.



•Created a case management team of close to 20 participants each week ensuring the highest quality of care for children and families.

•Successful outreach to fathers in the community creating a buzz that Corbin FRC is not just for mothers!

•Community Action Council came together to teach child abuse awareness at local schools for Blue Ribbon.

•Annual Mother’s Day event breaks barriers to decrease isolation and increase self-esteem.

•Participated in the Differential Response Pilot program and through successful collaboration ensured a best practice model for these vulnerable families



•3 more full service Family and Community Resource Center opened in locations throughout North Orange and Placentia.

•California Family Resource Center designated Friendly Center as a Model Community based Mental Health Program

•Basic Needs – Food distribution: In 2010 over 79,000 pounds of food were distributed to families.

•Friendly Center was profiled in a case study by the 2010 Building Movement Project’s “Catalysts for Change: How California Nonprofits Can Deliver Direct Services and Transform Communities”. The report was published nationally and featured 5 California Agencies.



•Awarded a KaBOOM! Grant and the La Habra Community Action Council along with 300 volunteers built a playground at Guadalupe Park.

•Received the Helmet Mini Grant distributing and fitting over 800 helmets.

•Received the Community Building Initiative (CBI) grant , strengthening their CAC (aka La Habra Action Council) in leadership, policy and advocacy within the La Habra community.

•The FRC Project Connections/ Health Access team hosted Annual (Eggstravaganza) Health Fairs averaging an annual attendance of over 1,000 people.



•The Community Action Council has been extremely involved in raising funds and planning many wonderful events for the FRC, including their very first CAC conference.

•Parenting classes have grown significantly at the FRC, including outreaching to hard to reach populations such as fathers and the Vietnamese community

•New non-funded partnerships within the community include:

•The Boys and Girls Club of Garden Grove providing Readiness on the Road

•Community Action Partnership providing food stamps assistance

•The Raise Foundation, food distribution was provided to the community



•Unbelievable success in collaboration with two law firms who offered thousands of dollars of pro-bono work for our most vulnerable and underserved families.

•Weathered two moves on a school campus while maintaining free space and great rapport with the school district.

•Ongoing and open community parenting education with a highly skilled therapist able to connect with parents at all levels.

•Provided information and access to culturally competent services for the Cambodian community

•Unified, active and inspired community action council members helped to plan a successful blue ribbon event each year.



•Over 20 active non-funded partnerships were created, nurtured and going strong.

•Chosen for an extreme makeover by Deloitte Corporation and the free painting and re-modeling looks great.

•Maintained a fun, safe, fun, stimulating and FREE DROP IN RECREATION program for kids 6-18 was developed and maintained.

•Steering Committee Meetings drew ongoing attendance of funded and non-funded partners; a packed room each month.



•Successfully moved locations from Mission Viejo to Lake Forest, reaching a much needed population

•Received an art grant funding art classes for kids, teens and adults

•New location with private offices allowed more Mental Health interns, providing more needed counseling to the community

•The Resources In Motion (RIM) provided by the Raise Foundation frequented hard to reach neighborhoods, offering health and mental health services to much needed clients

•Health Access onsite providing much needed resources and linkages to families struggling to receive services



•Developed strong partnerships within the Stanton Collaborative, including the Garden Grove School District, the Joyful Foundation, and the Orange County Department of Education.

•Successfully hosted 4 Women’s Day events, taking a day out to really celebrate the resilience of women going through their struggles and offering hope and encouragement.

•All the services at the FRC are amazing, including many that have also grown in the last few years such as PEP classes, Counseling and Anger Management.

•Many in-kind masters level interns and trainees provided much needed counseling at the center



•Provided elaborate and quality services with extremely limited space sharing offices with OCPT staff after being forced to move locations

• Implemented a family dinner parenting curriculum modeling the importance of daily conversation/communication among families

•Excellent collaboration with local schools, community centers and Head Start programs.

•Specialized DV counseling and easily accessible PEP classes

•General Counseling and Advocacy touched and changed the lives of hundreds of families.



•Amazing staff maintained and ensured the community was served while the FRC Coordinator was vacant for months

•Provided a successful Developmental Screening event in collaboration with OC Health Care Agency Public Health Services
