MUSIC NEWS

CHILDREN’S CHOIR NOW FORMING! If your child loves to sing in the car, in the bath, or at the dinner table, perhaps he needs a way to share his music for a greater purpose! We are now forming a Children’s Choir and are looking for children in grades 2 thru 6 who love to sing. The Children’s Choir will sing as part of our Christmas Concert on the evening of December 11, as well as our Christmas Vigil Mass on Christmas Eve. We will begin weekly one-hour practices on Wednesday, October 3, at 6 pm. If your child would like to sing in the Children’s Choir, please contact Kathy Corbett at corbettk@stbchurch.org.

Catechetical Sunday – Today, September 16, we bless all those who are sharing the faith with our parish community. Pick up a prayer card at Mass and continue to pray all year for our Catechists and Core Teams.

Interested in being an Altar Server? Altar Server training will be held in the Church at 2:30 pm on Sunday September 23, September 30, and October 14. Children in fourth grade and older are invited to attend. A parent needs to attend with the child. Question: Why do we celebrate Catechetical Sunday? Answer: The

mission of the church reflects the mission of Jesus to teach, preach, heal, and forgive. Through these acts, Jesus shares the good news of salvation and invites all people to share in the life and love of God. The church continues this mission in all its ministries, but especially, and perhaps most importantly, through catechesis.

Catechetical Sunday is celebrated on the third Sunday of September. The task of handing on the Gospel is entrusted to the whole community, who by word and example, form young and new members in the way of the Gospel. Parish programs assist parents in teaching the basics of faith

through liturgical experience, instruction, and faith formation. This ministry is essential for the parish to grow, for individuals to develop as believers, and for the ongoing spiritual formation of the whole community. It reminds the church that preaching the Gospel and growing in faith are essential to our sacramental practice and our liturgical prayer. On this Sunday, we recognize those who are called to be teachers and ask for God’s blessing and grace.
