PARISH NEWS/SPECIAL LETTER FROM BISHOP STEPHEN PARKES

ST. ANNE MEDIA MINISTRY

St. Anne's Media Ministry is growing and needs

your help! We presently need volunteers who are

computer savvy and have exible hours to live

stream early morning Mass, Sacramental Masses

such as weddings and funerals, and weekend

Masses. For more information or if you’re

interested, please reach out to Micki Kaye at

[email protected].

Our diocesan newspaper, the Southern Cross, is a great source for

news in our Catholic communities throughout the Diocese of

Savannah. It is mailed to all households, regardless of whether or

not a family can pay the subscription price, which is just $15.

Producing the newspaper is quite expensive. Oct. 10/11 is the day

we would normally take up a 2nd collection to help defray the

printing and distribution costs. We hope you will consider making

your donation of $15 or $30 by mail or online giving, so we can

continue to produce this informative newspaper.

BAPTISM

Please welcome our newest

members, Zayden Chayton

Gentry and Lily-Ann Marie

Gentry who were baptized

on Saturday, September 12.

Congratulations to their

mom and dad, Melanie and

Tory.

September 24, 2020

My Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Diocese of Savannah,

I would like to thank you for your thoughts and prayers this week

upon my Ordination and Installation as the Fifteenth Bishop of

Savannah. As I settle in to my new responsibilities I write to you

today to provide you with an update on how we as a Diocese are

moving forward in the midst of the pandemic.

While the number of new COVID-19 cases in Georgia has declined by

more than 50% since the beginning of August - from a seven-day

moving average of 3,551 on August 1 to 1,724 on September 20 -

we remain cautious and concerned for the health of everyone.

Therefore, I am extending the Dispensation from the Obligation to

Attend Sunday Mass through the end of the liturgical year, the

Solemnity of Christ the King which is celebrated on November 22,

2020.

I would like to thank our parishes for their extra efforts to ensure the

safety of our faithful while also providing daily activities during these

past months. Since reopening at the beginning of June, we have had

no COVID-19 outbreaks traced specically to any of our parishes. I

commend our Pastors for their leadership in providing healthy places

to worship and I urge everyone to remain vigilant as we continue this

journey together. I would also like to thank those who have returned

to in-person worship for following the guidelines and protocols put

into place by your Pastor. In my short time here I am impressed with

the beautiful care that I have witnessed in loving God and neighbor.

I ask you to join with me in continuing to pray for all of those who

have been stricken by this pandemic, and for the caregivers, public

health ocials, and civic leaders persevering in service to the

common good. We pray for those who long to return to Mass and to

the Sacraments but are unable due to age or health issues. May their

longing be rewarded by Almighty God with an outpouring of grace

and hope. For those who are able, I encourage you to return to Mass

when you are ready and comfortable. Your parish family needs you

and misses you.

To those who are reluctant or unable to come to Mass or parish

events, I ask you to continue to nurture your faith! Watching a

live-streamed Mass is only part of the equation. Perhaps you could

also deepen your relationship with our Blessed Mother by praying a

daily rosary or visiting your parish church to pray privately during the

day when few are present. Would you consider participating in a

formative program or Bible studies at www.formed.org and

www.ascensionpress.com? Even if we stay home, our spiritual lives

and our relationship with Jesus Christ and the Church must be

tended to.

As we have since the beginning of the pandemic, we ask our Mother

Mary to watch over and intercede for us so that we may be healthy in

soul and body. Our Lady of Perpetual Help, pray for us! Please know

that I make a commitment to lift you, your loved ones and your

intentions in my prayers daily. I appreciate your prayers for me and

for all in the Diocese of Savannah. May we meet each day in our

prayers and rejoice in the Lord always!

Sincerely Yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Stephen D. Parkes, D.D., Bishop of Savannah

OCTOBER - RESPECT LIFE MONTH

SOLEMNITY

OF ALL SAINTS

NOVEMBER 1

FEAST OF

ALL SOULS

NOVEMBER 2

This year, the Solemnity of All Saints, November 1, falls on a

Sunday. Masses are at regularly scheduled Sunday Mass times.

Monday, November 2 is the Feast of All Souls. On this special day

we remember and pray for our faithful departed, especially the

souls in Purgatory who are on their way to heaven. We have two

special ways in which to remember our loved ones:

At 12 Noon, we will pray the Rosary in the Catholic section of

Parkhill Cemetery. The names of those who have died in the past

12 months will be read. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

If you receive envelopes by mail, an All Souls envelope should have

been included. For those who do not receive envelopes by mail,

you may make your donation online and submit your names via

email to [email protected]. Please make sure your

request arrives in the Parish Oce by 12 Noon on Wednesday,

October 21. All of our faithful brothers and sisters are

remembered on All Souls Day, but those whose names are

submitted will be included in the All Souls Book which will be kept

on the altar during the month of November.

DID YOU LOSE A ROSARY?

A rosary was found in the church on the Friday

after Fr. McCarthy’s Memorial Mass. If you lost

a rosary, please call the parish oce and we will

put you in touch with the person who found it.

ALWAYS TOGETHER AT MASS

If you can’t join us in person, we hope you and your family will join us for Mass online.

OPENING SONG: For the Beauty of the Earth

GLORIA

ALL: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you,

we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus

Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on

us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on

us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit

in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

FIRST READING: Sir 50:1, 3-4, 6-7

A reading from the Book of Sirach

Behold him in whose time the house of God was renovated, in whose days the temple was reinforced. In his time the

reservoir was dug, a pool as vast as the sea. He protected the people against brigands and strengthened the city against the

enemy. Like a star shining among the clouds, like the full moon at the festal season; Like sun shining upon the temple of the

King, like a rainbow appearing in the cloudy sky. The Word of the Lord.

ALL: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

SECOND READING: Gal 6:14-18

A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Galatians

Brothers and sisters: May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been

crucied to me, and I to the world. For neither does circumcision mean anything, nor does uncircumcision, but only a new

creation. Peace and mercy be to all who follow this rule and to the Israel of God. From now on, let no one make troubles for

me; for I bear the marks of Jesus on my body. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers and sisters.

Amen. The Word of the Lord.

ALL: Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

R. Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.

Francis poor and lowly enters heaven rich in virtue, greeted with celestial hymns.

R. Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.

GOSPEL: Mt 11:25-30

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.

At that time Jesus exclaimed: “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these

things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.

All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father

except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.” “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and

I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will nd rest for

yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” The Gospel of the Lord.

ALL: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

PROFESSION OF FAITH

I believe in one God, the Father almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father

before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,

begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

(At the words that follow,

up to and including “and became man,” all bow)

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,

and became man.

OFFERTORY SONG: Prayer of St. Francis

COMMUNION SONG: (Instrumental)

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION (For those who cannot be present)

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You

into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You

as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

FINAL BLESSING AND DISMISSAL

RECESSIONAL SONG: Let There Be Peace on Earth

For our sake he was crucied under Pontius Pilate,

he suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the

dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son is adored and gloried,

who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins

and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.
