Cleethorpes Town has come a long way in its relatively short history. Initially formed in 1998 as Lincolnshire Soccer School, it was the brainchild of former Grimsby Town player Tommy Watson. The team was an immediate success with both boys and girls across every age group and the club began to grow quickly.

In 2003, the club set up a flagship senior team. In the team's first season within the Lincolnshire League they secured a credible fourth place finish for which the foundations for the future were set. Now rebranded Cleethorpes Town, the club has redeveloped into an important community outlet. With almost 30 teams competing at every level of local and regional football, the Owls are one of the largest clubs in the area and still continues to expand in all areas. The excellent array of teams and high quality coaching saw the club awarded with Football Association Charter Standard Community Club Status thus further underlining the clubs commitment to providing high quality football coaching alongside enjoyment for youngsters.

The development and evolution of Cleethorpes Town Football Club has been spearheaded by the first team. With the arrival of a new manager during the 2010-11 season it saw the club who were languishing in the lower echelons of the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League go on to finish the season in an amazing third place finish. In addition, the club collected the Supplementary Cup by defeating Heckington United in the final at Sincil Bank. 2011-12 season saw us not only become champions of the Lincs League but also the Challenge Cup winners. Additionally the club was accepted into the NCEL. Our first season in the league saw us finish fourth in the table with some impressive victories along the way. It was a steep learning curve for the players, management and staff.

The 2013-14 started with a change of management and Marcus Newell was brought in. The season started off at a medium pace but a long unbeaten streak mean the Owls were top of the league at christmas. However, we had a slow slow to the new year and fell 7 points behind with only a handful of games remaining. With the pressure at its highest, others around us felt it most and we managed to secure the title with one game to go.

The club is determined to make further strides to improve and fulfil their immediate ambition of becoming North East Lincolnshire's most successful lower league football club.

Darren Hanslip saw his long range effort sail over the bar.

However, it was the hosts who opened the scoring much to the delight of most of the crowd. Clever play from Alex Flett played in Louis Grant who tempted the keeper to rush out. He could only play it straight to Barlow who composed himself and dinked the ball over the keeper and the three retrieving defenders. This sparked scenes of joy as a cup upset seemed to be on the cards once more.

The joy was short lived though as just two minutes later in the 32nd minute, a long ball forward was not dealt with effective as Heward nodded back to his on-rushing keeper but the ball was too powerful and bounced past Beattie into the empt net.

After the goal went in, the game struggled to get going once again and it was not until the stoppage time at the end of the half that the next chance came. Ferriby’s Denton found himself with only Beattie to beat inside the six yard box following a Josh Wilde pinpoint cross but he could only head straight at the keeper. As the whistle went for the break, both sides knew that this was not over and the game could go either way.

With both sides unchanged at the break, the Owls kicked off the second half but immediately gave the ball away and invited pressure straight away. Inside the opening 90 seconds,

the visiting players and fans where up in arms shouting for a penalty as it appeared to them that Richard Peck had brought down Liam King but the referee waved away the appeals as he adjudged that the ball was won fairly.

T h e V i l l a g e r s k e p t t h e pressure up as Jarmen went close with 51 minutes on the clock, as his lofted cross just crept past the far post. Then King went on a mazy run in the channel but skewed his shot wide of Beattie’s upright.

Just three minutes later though, Ferriby did have the ball in the back of the net as Jarmen got the better of Beattie as he dropped his should, made a yard of space and leathered the ball past the static keeper.

The Owls made two quick changes bringing on Lee McFarland and Jonathan Oglesby in replacement of Richard Peck and Louis Grant. This change helped the Owls w i t h t h e a s s u r a n c e o f McFarland propping up the back line and Ogelsby on the wing with his injection of pace.

However, it was Ferriby who kept pressing as they looked to extend their lead. Firstly Jarmen saw his header saved

in the 63rd minute, then a drilled free kick from the left had to be smartly saved.

The Owls struggled to create any further chances in the closing   quarter of the game as the visitors kept the ball well and retained possession all over the field. The Villager

did have chances to extend their lead but Beattie was on hand to deny King and Denton twice.

The referee blew for full-time just three minutes into stoppage time to end the Owls run in the FA Cup in their maiden year in the competition.

THE CONTENTS

Cleethorpes Town suffered heartache this afternoon as they were dumped out of the FA Cup at the hands of Conference North side North Ferriby United. The Owls took the lead against the run of play in the 30th minute when Jack Barlow chipped in from long range. However, the visitors hit back two minutes later when Lawrence Heward headed into his own net then just after the break Nathan Jarmen produced a moment of brilliance to settle the tie for the Villagers.

The Owls starting XI remained unchanged fol lowing their 3-1 midweek defeat to Worksop Town. Jack Debnam and Matthew Coleman where recalled to the bench in favour of Alex McKenzie which was the only change.

The game started at a tentative pace with both sides initially feeling each other out with not much penetration. The visitors did manage a tame shot on goal after just two minutes but it

was easily saved by keeper Brad Beattie.

As Ferriby retained the ball well in the midfield, they began to exploit the Owls defence and they nearly had the ball in the back of the net in the fourth minute when Tom Denton beat his marker and headed against the crossbar.

The pressure kept mounting and once again the Villagers nearly had the ball in

the net as a long corner was played to the back post but Adam Bolder’s header was diverted inches wide by an Owls defender.

At the other end, chances for the Owls were kept at a premium and this was

evident when Brody Robertson’s long range shot was easily blocked without troubling the keeper.

The Conference North side then mounted a series of attacks. Firstly, in the 10th minute, a good cross by Dan Clayton was met by a header from captain Russell Fry but it was well held by Beattie. Then Jarmen spun and shot from 20 yards out moments later but it went the wrong side of the post for the Villagers as Beattie was static in his goal acting like a spectator.

Beattie was once again called into action just a few minutes later, when Clayton tried a cheeky shot with the outside of his boot but he curled it too much and it went wide of the target.

The Owls were struggling for effective penetration and were reduced to long range shots during the opening 25 minutes and this was obvious when

On Saturday we bowed out

of the FA Cup after our

for the whole club and I

personally think we more

Tonight we face wel l

we will do everything in our

Mansfield Hosiery Mills 6Cleethorpes Town Ladies 0Sunday 21st September 2014 After losing a player the morning of the game to sickness and another one to sickness in the warm-up it was time to face Mansfield with only 10 players.

The game started with a quick rush from Mansfield and they opened the scoring early on with a through ball. Mansfield kept the pressure on and another through ball saw the Mansfield striker one on one with keeper Kassie Wallis and a brilliant save with her foot kept the score at 1-0.

Mansfield used the extra player to their advantage and crossed the ball in only to be turned into the net with an own goal from Gemma Wardle. Gemma Charlton made a couple of individual runs into the opposing penalty area, but the keeper was in the right place at the right time and prevented any goals.

Mansfield then played another through ball and again Kassie Wallis made another great save to keep the score down.

Cleethorpes played a couple of over the top balls which left the Mansfield defence only to be ruled offside. Just before half

time Mansfield let go a stunning strike from the edge of the area i n t o t h e t o p c o r n e r a n unstoppable shot, 3-0.

Half time came and it was a case of stick or twist. With another Mansfield goal soon after half time, the mountain was too big too climb and a Mansfield cross from the right saw it go across the goal mouth for a tap in. The game was then finished by another stunning goal by a Mansfield winger from outside the area into the top corner. Game finished 6-0.

Cleethorpes Town are delighted to announce the signing of 20 year old ex-Hull City winger Jack Barlow. Barlow never made a senior appearance for the Tigers following his six figure move from Grimsby Town back in 2009. Other clubs linked at the time included M a n c h e s t e r U n i t e d a n d Manchester City, the former of which Barlow had trials at before opting to join Hull City.

Barlow failed to break into the Tigers first team during his time there and spent most of his time playing in the under-21 league. Barlow did join Northern Premier D i v i s i o n O n e N o r t h s i d e Scarborough Athletic in February 2014 for a short loan spell but h a v i n g o n l y m a d e a f e w appearances before he returned to the Tigers.

Barlow’s contract expired during the summer and he was snapped up by Boston United. After spending just three months at the club and having only nine minutes under his belt following a brief appearance during a 3-2 defeat to Stockport County, Barlow was keen to move onto pastures new.

“I just want to play football close to home and enjoy it again. I want to fall in love with the game and after speaking to some of the players and staff at

Cleethorpes I knew that this would be the right move.”

He added, “I know a few of the lads here already and they said they love it here and the style of football they play so I jumped at the chance to be involved. I’m hoping to get into the First Team but I know I have to work hard and show them what i’m made of. The monetary aspect of the move was inconsequential as all I am interested in is playing f o o t b a l l a n d I w a n t t h e opportunity to play regularly.”

When pressed about his time at Hull City, Barlow responded, “I went to Hull and was training with the First Team in 2009 with then manager Phil Brown. He was unfortunately relieved of his duties shortly after I arrived and I believe I was treated unfairly from then on by the youth system there. I didn’t really enjoy my t i m e t h e r e u n t i l the last y e a r when I left the y o u t h s e t - u p b u t a t the end o f t h e d a y they are s i gn ing t h e

likes of Ben Arfa and Gaston Ramirez so I don’t think I would have ever been good enough to play in their first team.”

Ass istant Manager Matthew Powell said, “Jack has been a player we have looked at for a while but didn’t think we would get him when we originally approached Boston United about a loan move. To get him on a permanent deal though is a real coo for the club as we had to fend off some bigger non-league teams who were also in for him.Powell added, “He is a local lad and it’s great to bring him in. He will bring more quality to an already strong squad. He’s an exciting player and will suit the way we play football. Marcus (Manager) was very keen on getting the youngster and is over the moon to have captured the former Hull City winger.”

2014/15 Lincs League: Away win at Louth in Match one in the Supplementary Cup

Cleethorpes AKP recorded another win against Louth Town reserves having previously beaten them in the league this time in the cup group stages.

Cleethorpes goals all came from Nathan Emson who scored a hat trick in a 3 - 2 win. Emson having also hit the upright in the game could of scored more but the player himself will be pleased to get 90 minutes as he presses for a recall to the first teams starting lineup

The side saw under 18’s player Sam Willett step in and play in goal. Usually a defender he has done well for the under 18’s in goal, and he earned the chance to play in goal for the development side as injuries to Keal and Bailey forced the change.

The scoreline should of been greater, though a return to winning ways for the side will boost their confidence.

Their is no game for the side next week after the Lincolnshire league have allowed a blank weekend to allow the players to attend the first teams FA Cup 2nd round qualifying game against North Ferriby United.

VISITING TEAM

The club was formed in 1888, the same year that the Football League was founded. For most of their long existence they competed in local leagues, including long and successful periods in both the Scarborough and York Leagues.

It was in 1972 that they decided to step up to 'senior' level when they were accepted into the third division of the Yorkshire League, losing 2-1 away to Liversedge on 19 August 1972 in their first ever Yorkshire League fixture. They finished 5th in their debut campaign, but won the third division title under coach Dave Burgess the following season, and they were second division runners-

up in 1974-75. In all the Pikes spent ten very eventful seasons as members of the Yorkshire League, fluctuating between all three divisions, until the Yorkshire and Midland Counties Leagues created the Northern Counties East League in 1982.

Pickering Town became founder members of the NCEL, starting life in Division 1 (North) and they are now into their 32nd season as an NCEL club. Their best season in the league to date came under manager Nigel Tate in 1992-93 when they finished as premier division runners-up, being pipped to the title on goal-difference by Spennymoor United. They first entered the FA Vase in 1975,

winning 2-1 away to Yorkshire Amateur in their first ever tie. Their best run in the competition occurred in season 2005-06 when player-manager Alex Mathie led them to the quarter-finals where they went down 2-0 away to eventual winners Nantwich Town.

Pikes first appeared in the FA Cup in 1993, beating Penrith 5-2 in t h e i r f i r s t m a t c h i n t h e competition. The furthest they have progressed to date is the 2nd qua l i f y i ng r ound on th ree occasions, with their best result in the FA Cup being a stunning 1-0 away win against NPL club Bishop Auckland in 2003. The club celebrated their Centenary in 1998 by hos t ing a spec ia l

WHAT'S THE PROBLEM WE'RE TRYING TO SOLVE?Cleethorpes Town F.C. were unfortunately the victims of a crime last week, we have had our goal posts stolen and are looking to the community to help us in funding of our attempts to purchase new Goal posts for the club and repair previous damages caused by the vandalism to our dugouts and perimeter fences.WHY DO WE CARE ABOUT THIS PROJECT?The club know how important its games are to the community and we need to get this problem addressed as soon as possible to avoid possible postponements to future games due to the lack of goal posts at our disposable.HOW WILL THE MONEY BE SPENT?The whole amount of money raised will go into the buying of the new goal posts, fences and dugouts surrounding our pitch.WHEN WILL WE SEE THE DIFFERENCE?The supporters will see an immediate difference as the goal posts, fencing required and dugouts will be purchased as soon as the adequate funding has been achieved for each.
