Cleethorpes Town has come a long way in its relatively short history. Initially formed in 1998 as Lincolnshire Soccer School, it was the brainchild of former Grimsby Town player Tommy Watson. The team was an immediate success with both boys and girls across every age group and the club began to grow quickly.

In 2003, the club set up a flagship senior team. In the team's first season within the Lincolnshire League they secured a credible fourth place finish for which the foundations for the future were set. Now rebranded Cleethorpes Town, the club has redeveloped into an important community outlet. With almost 30 teams competing at every level of local and regional football, the Owls are one of the largest clubs in the area and still continues to expand in all areas. The excellent array of teams and high quality coaching saw the club awarded with Football Association Charter Standard Community Club Status thus further underlining the clubs commitment to providing high quality football coaching alongside enjoyment for youngsters.

The development and evolution of Cleethorpes Town Football Club has been spearheaded by the first team. With the arrival of a new manager during the 2010-11 season it saw the club who were languishing in the lower echelons of the Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League go on to finish the season in an amazing third place finish. In addition, the club collected the Supplementary Cup by defeating Heckington United in the final at Sincil Bank. 2011-12 season saw us not only become champions of the Lincs League but also the Challenge Cup winners. Additionally the club was accepted into the NCEL. Our first season in the league saw us finish fourth in the table with some impressive victories along the way. It was a steep learning curve for the players, management and staff.

The 2013-14 started with a change of management and Marcus Newell was brought in. The season started off at a medium pace but a long unbeaten streak mean the Owls were top of the league at christmas. However, we had a slow slow to the new year and fell 7 points behind with only a handful of games remaining. With the pressure at its highest, others around us felt it most and we managed to secure the title with one game to go.

The club is determined to make further strides to improve and fulfil their immediate ambition of becoming North East Lincolnshire's most successful lower league football club.

struck a good shot which Steer did well to push over the bar.

It was Langston's turn to go close bringing out a tremendous save from Steer who somehow managed to get the faintest of touches to the shot turning it onto bar. Steer, the busier of the two keepers, then denied Steadman by pushing his shot over the bar.

Three minutes later Gresley did regain the lead when Steadman made a run down the left but his shot was blocked by Steer but O'Connell reacted to the rebound driving the ball into the net.

Cleethorpes then had Lee McFarland to thank for keeping Gresley 's advantage to just one goal when he made a superbly timed last ditch tackle on Wells who was about to pull the trigger after making a run into the area.

Gresley were reduced to ten men on 88 minutes when John Guy was shown a second yellow card for kicking the ball away after the referee had stopped the game. However, the offence was hotly d i sputed as he was v ict im of apparent miss identification by the official.

S e c o n d s l a t e r s u b s t i t u t e Ro b Mulonga had a chance to make the game safe for Gresley with just two minutes remaining but his shot, after running onto a through ball, was blocked by the onrushing Steer.Cleethorpes threatened to use their man advantage and pressed for an equaliser and they went close when Louis Grant's effort was well saved by Townsend. But the goal they

were looking for came four minutes into time added on.

A corner from the right got the merest of touches f rom a f l i cked header leaving Townsend flat footed and substitute Jack Debnam w a s d e l i g h t e d w i t h t h e chance putting the ball into the net at the far post.

A further th i rty minutes started with second Gresley substitute Russ Peel planting a header agonisingly wide and then Matthew Coleman was shown a straight red card for retaliating to a tackle on him leaving both sides with ten men much to the annoyance of the Owls management.

Gresley took the lead once more just before the break when Jamie Barrett flicked home Langston's free kick from the left.

However, Barrett went from hero to villain in a matter of two minutes. Cleethorpes poured forward and Debnam got the better of Barrett in the box and the defender brought him down and as he was the last defender the referee John Roskelly no option but to show a straight red card.

Debnam scored his second goal of the night firing the spot kick past Townsend. A long range shot from Cooper hit the bar and that was not

t h e e n d o f the drama as M c F a r l a n d r e c e i v e d a second yellow followed by a red card to even the sides up.

The game looked as if it was heading for penalties but a well worked goal finished this eventful game i n f a v o u r o f t h e h o m e s i d e a s Debnam completed

his hat-trick slotting the ball home after a fine move down the right.

The game ended moments after the penalty sending the Owls through into the next round to face Carlton Town whilst Gresley made the long trip home thinking about chances missed.

T h i s w a s a g a m e t h a t h a d everything, nine goals, four red cards, seven yellows and extra t i m e . U n f o r t u n a t e l y f o r t h e traveling few from Gresley five of the goals where for Cleethorpes!

To score four goals away from home and still be on the losing side is very hard to accept but that is what happened in this 'entertaining' game.

For whatever reason Gresley could only muster two substitutes and they were also without their manager Martin Rowe who is on a family holiday.Gresley seemed to still be traveling to the ground as they got caught out with just three minutes on the clock. A cross from the right came over to Marc Cooper who looped a shot over the head of Alex Townsend and into the far corner of the net.

Alex Steadman had the first effort for the visitors but his low shot was easily dealt with by Cleethorpes keeper Damian Steer.

The home-side deserved t o d o u b l e t h e i r advantage when they made a flowing move from their defence and up into Gresley area but the final shot from Alex Flett narrowly cleared the bar.

Gresley leveled minutes l a te r and they were fortunate to do so as a woefully short back pass was pounced on by Brad W e l l s w h o s k i p p e d a r o u n d t h e k e e p e r before slotting the ball into the empty net.

M a r t i n S m y t h t h e n carved out another chance for the Moatmen with a good run down the right ending in a cross which just eluded the in rushing Wells at the far post.Wells had an almost identical chance to put Gresley ahead just three minutes after his first but this time his first touch was heavy and the ball flew wide to the touch line and he couldn't repeat his first goal.

Gresley did take the lead but again from a huge slice of luck. Kieran O'Connell fired in a shot which the u n f o r t u n a t e L a w r e n c e H e w a r d hammered into the roof of his own net. Smyth then fired in a low shot which Steer fumbled but somehow managed to push away for a corner.Eric Graves had the final effort of the first half when O'Connell found him on the edge of the area but the shot was held by the keeper.

Once more, as in the first half, Gresley were caught cold early in the second but it was a goal worth t h e e n t r a n c e f e e a l o n e w h e n Jonathan Oglesby hit a tremendous unstoppable once-in-a-season strike from 22 yards which left Townsend a mere spectator as it flew past him and into the net.

Gresley then had three good chances to regain the lead. First came from O'Connell who fired just wide of the near post with Steer beaten. Wells then made a fine run through the middle but his final shot was straight at the keeper and then Hayden Johns

Good afternoon everyone and we lcome to the Bradley FDC for our FA Vase game. Today is also non league day which is a national campaign to bring awareness to non league level of football.

Today's game sees us pit o u r w i t s a g a i n s t Loughborough university so I'm sure it will be another cracking advert for football.

Talking about advert for football, I don't think I have seen another game l i k e I w i t n e s s e d o n

Wednesday. It is arguably the best game I have seen, it had everything and I think I went through every emotion going, but t h a n k f u l l y t h e f i n a l emotion was a good one. That game led to our football club hitting the spotlights and Thursday was one of phone calls and interviews which was surreal for me.

O u r T w i t t e r (@CleeTownFC) feed was t h e m o s t r e a d o n Wednesday evening and I must congratulate Craig for such great coverage

during the game and we had well wishes from afar.

It was also great to see so many people at the game a n d c r e a t e a g r e a t atmosphere and hopefully they will want to return.

If todays game has only half of the incidents we w i l l b e v e r y w e l l entertained.

What can I say about Wednesday night. It had everything, not good for a manager though but the fans must have loved it!

Gresley were a very good side but so are we and hopefully the lads w i l l b e l i e v e i n themselves now.

Personal ly I cannot think off a bad tackle in the game so to have four red cards was strange but the man in the middle thought different on the night.

We must move on to t o d a y n o w . Loughborough will be a very tough task as just two days after that

game Wednesday night but we are in good form and up for any challenge put in front of us.

We would like to thank the fans for turning up W e d n e s d a y a n d cheering us on it would have been easy to stay

at home and watch England but I am sure everyone who came thought the game at B r a d l e y w a s m o r e entertaining.

CLEETHORPES TOWN ‘A’ Was With Mick Gibbons & Andy Cawte

A changed line up from the prev ious game aga in s t Barnoldby FC saw us take the 3 points away from Te t n e y R o v e r s F C o n Saturday in what was a much better performance from a young Owls side against Tetney.

The Owls settled into the game well and from early on set about playing some great football . After a great build up which saw us move the ball from right to left before working the ball into the area where a Tetney defender heading the ball into his own net after pressure from Renzie Lobendhan.

Tetney equalised from a set piece when Tetney glanced a

header past Grant Bailey in the Owls goal.

Pretty much s t r a i g h t f r o m k i c k off the Owls t o o k t h e lead again t h r o u g h J a m e s Sawdon who hit a sweet 25 yard left foot volley i n t o t h e roof of the net. It was

a great response from the setback a minute earlier.

The Owls went in 2-1 up at half time and deservedly so with us creating some great chances with debutant Sam Walker looking lively up top l inking with Lobendhan, Cameron Donson and Sawdon supporting from out wide

Brad Mitchell and Tom Furnell were winning the battle in midfield and keeping the ball moving. Dale Pratt and Andy Allott at full back were looking solid and offering us a lot going forward with Tom Wingate and Josh Williams combining well at the heart of the back four in front of Bailey.

The second half saw us create more chances with Walker unlucky hitting the post and Sawdon forcing a save from the Keeper off the rebound.

Tetney then equalised after a great save from Bailey, a Tetney striker forced the ball over the line.

As we continued to press we got our reward with another well worked goal which fell to Lobendhan who showed great feet before slotting the ball home.

Bailey was forced into a couple of saves as the game went end too end with the Ow l s a l s o hav i ng s ome chances to further our lead.

The final whistle was blown to end the game 3-2 too the Owls. Managers Andy Cawte and Mick G ibbons were d e l i g h t e d w i t h t h e performance and reaction after the first game with a well deserved 3 points. “Again we played some quality football and also put the work-rate in to secure the win.”

The second half saw a different attitude and goals from Jordan Vatcher & Lee Syer saw the side hit 2 goals in 3 minutes.

Then unfortunate error at the back saw Louth equalise to make it 2 - 2 before Reece Newell scored a late winner.

The men’s football club compete in the Midland Football League, FA Cup and FA Vase as well as the British Universities and Col leges Sport Competition (BUCS).

Loughborough first won t h e N a t i o n a l B U C S competition in 1939, and are its most successful competitor winning it 35 times since.

2013 saw Loughborough lift the BUCS trophy on h o m e t u r f a t t h e Loughborough University S t a d i u m a g a i n s t Nottingham University.

T h e c l u b h a v e a d e v e l o p i n g F u t s a l programme, winning the BUCS Futsal competition in 2008 and reaching the FA Cup Futsal final in 2009.

A l l the lads had p layed together fo r 30+ games, the lads are a l l loca l and I was a b i t o f an ou ts ider. The most re l ieved I ’ ve been to score an impor tan t goa l was a t Shaw Lane. They were 2nd and we were top . We needed to no t lose and I ’d missed 2 very good chances ear l ie r in the game and I ’d had a mare to be per fec t l y hones t , so , to tuck away the f ina l chance was impor tan t and meant a lo t . My favour i te game was probab ly C l ips tone away, i t wasn ’ t a p re t ty game and we needed to w in to s tay top w i th two games le f t to keep the pressure on a t the top , to ass is t and score in tha t game suppor ted the team to go on an w in 2 -0 a f te r a hard fought per fo rmance.
