THEME 2020 - CLEAN ENERGY LET’S REDUCE OUR ENERGY IMPACT!
Climate change is a global problem, but one that everyone can help solve. Students investigate clean energy and ways can reduce our energy impact on the planet. This topic aims to engage students with positive, solutions-focused material and explore the many options to help reduce energy demand or
use renewable energy.
BACKGROUNDMany young people are concerned about climate change but learning about the impacts can be overwhelming (for adults too). Focusing on clean energy and local actions provides a more positive, solutions focused way to engage with young people
concerned about climate change.
LOWER PRIMARY YEARS 1 – 3Students to investigate how their everyday activities such as transportation, cooking, heating, cooling, lighting and entertainment all use energy. Students are to identify renewable and non-renewable energy sources and their impact on the environment. Student’s artworks can depict their response to these energy sources or the ways they can actively decrease their use of energy at home and in school.
UPPER PRIMARY YEARS 4 – 6 Students to investigate how human energy consumption contributes to increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and causes climate change. Students differentiate between renewable and non-renewable sources of energy and depict current and future clean energy alternatives. Students may explore a wide range of future solutions, creating artworks that advocate the use of renewable resources and energy conservation actions in the home, school and wider community.
