Common LawAdmission Test

The first 2500 candidates (comprising 40% extra candidates proportionately from various categories such as General/SC/ST/OBC/PWD etc.) in the merit list will be allowed to participate in the online counseling against the actual seats available with the participating NLUs, by logging in to the personal LOGIN ACCOUNT created by them at the time of registration and depositing the adjustable fees of ̀ 1,00,000/- (Rupees One Lakh only) either online/offline through the website.

The candidates seriously interested in taking admission must deposit the required fees so as to be considered against the seats available with a NLU. The candidates failing to deposit the required fees through the website with the CLAT Office by the specified date will forfeit their right to be considered for admission in future and their names will be dropped from the CLAT Merit List.

The university-wise first provisional allotment list based on merit-cum-preference will be published on the CLAT Website for the exact number of seats available with a NLU taking into consideration the university-wise preferences obtained from the candidates during the counselling session, their CLAT score and Rank. The list will also be made available to the respective participating Universities.

The provisionally selected candidates allotted to various NLUs will have to reserve their seats within a stipulated period at this stage by logging in to the personal LOGIN ACCOUNT. The candidates will be provided with three options viz.,

I hereby take admission with the allotted university and do not want my candidature to be considered for the next higher preference (This option can be availed only once), or

I hereby take admission with the allotted university and also want my candidature to be considered for the next higher preference, or

I hereby do not want to take part in the admission process.

Any of the above options exercised by the candidate will be treated as final and irrevocable. The candidates failing to reserve their seat through the website with the CLAT Office

by the specified date will forfeit their right to be considered for admission in future and their names will be dropped from the CLAT Merit List.

A list of waitlisted candidates will also be issued along with the Provisional Allotment List, from the first 2500 candidates who had undertaken the counselling after remitting the fees. The comprehensive list will be prepared by picking up candidates proportionately from various categories such as General/SC/ST/OBC/PWD/DFF/NRI etc. both from the All India and State (Domicile) category of candidates.

If required, the CLAT Office will publish three more times the Subsidiary List of candidates allotted to various Universities against the actual left out seats.

If the candidates in the merit of first 2500, do not deposit the required amount of fees (i.e. ` 1,00,000/-) in adequate number for being considered against probable vacancies, if any, in future, and if the list of such candidates gets exhausted and some vacancies still remain thereafter, then a fresh counselling session will be undertaken by the CLAT Office.

B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) PROGRAMME

National Law School of India University (NLSIU) is the first Indian University, established exclusively for legal studies and research. The National Law School of India Act, 1986, passed by Karnataka Legislature, provided the statutory basis to this University. It became functional in 1988. Sponsored by the Bar Council of India, NLSIU represents the unique partnership between the Bar, Bench and Academia. Eminent judges and leading lawyers have been associating with the Law School working side by side with a committed band of academicians.

NLSIU had a modest beginning in an old building at the Central College Campus of Bangalore University and was shifted to the present campus in 1991. Thereafter it has been a period of steady growth and we have now one of the best equipped and beautiful campuses. The Library, i.e. Shri Narayana Rao Melgiri National Law Library is the best Law Library in the country. The entire campus including the hostels is provided with wireless connectivity and as a result, the students can access internet services from anywhere in the Campus and NLSIU is the first Law School to achieve this distinction. All the class rooms are equipped with LCD Projectors and other facilities.

There are independent hostels for men and women and being a

residential University, all the students have to stay in the Hostels.

The Library is kept open till midnight in order to facilitate intensive

use of academic resources.

There is a well-equipped moot court hall named after Justice M.

Hidayatullah, former Chief Justice of India. Every student of

NLSIU is expected to participate actively in the moot court

activities. Our students have kept the highest Mooting traditions

of the NLSIU by excelling in National and International Moot Court thCompetitions. For the second time, in the history of Jessup, on 7

April, 2013 NLSIU team consisting of Raag Yadav, Akshaya

Ramdurai, Geeta Hariharan and Shreya Jain has won the finals of

Jessup Moot Court Competition defeating Singapore

Management University (SMU). Raag Yadav was adjudged as the

Best Oralist. NLSIU won Jessup for the first time in 1999 and 2013

is the second time that NLSIU has bagged the World Cup in Moot

Court. NLSIU, Bangalore to date is the only Law School from India

to have won Jessup Memorial Moot Court, NOT ONCE BUT TWICE.

In fact, one of the core ingredients of the NLSIU life is vibrant

debating, mooting and conference culture. Some of the most

exciting competitions, students take part in are client counseling

and negotiation competitions, which promote the art of speaking

without arguing. This goes a long way in making a successful

lawyer. Another aspect of life at Law School is the Legal Services

Clinic. One of the avowed objectives of the Legal Services Clinic is

to bridge the gap created between the legal procedures and the

common man. In pursuance of the same, the Legal Services Clinic

took up severa l in i t iat ives , inc luding but not

limited to, Prisons Project – which involved providing legal aid to the under-trial prisoners, organising street plays and also conducting Legal Literacy Programs around Bangalore. In fact LSC handled more than 100 cases the previous academic year alone.

The National Law School of India Review, The Indian Journal of Law and Technology, Socio-Legal Review and the Indian Journal of International Economics Law - these are the four prestigious journals being published from the NLSIU. All of them are peer reviewed and have received rave review. All these journals have been handled by the students only.

As part of the outreach programmes, NLSIU has renewed the earlier practice of interacting with the law colleges in India in an attempt to extend the academic support to them from time to time.

Ms. Anupama Kumar has been awarded the Rhodes Scholarship, tha prestigious scholarship for the year 2013. This is for the 18

thtime and 8 year in succession that NLSIU students have been selected for the Rhodes Scholarship.

4 (four) of our first year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) students have won the prestigious Aditya Birla Scholarship. The Aditya Birla Scholars will receive scholarship from Aditya Birla Foundation for their entire studies in NLSIU.

Various donors have established 14 Endowment Chairs in NLSIU to promote the study of different subjects. These subjects include Constitutional Law, Refugee Law, Corporate Law, International Trade Law, Alternate Dispute Resolution, Intellectual Property Law, Consumer Law, etc. Allen and Overy, a leading British Law firm, has set up the Chair on International Financial Laws and Prof. Philipp Wood, a leading authority on the subject, conducted week's intensive course along with the attorneys of the firm in NLSIU campus under the auspices of the Chair.

The NLSIU has a well-developed research centres in Juvenile Justice, Intellectual Property Rights, Environmental Law, Women and the Law, Child and the Law, Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy.

NLSIU follows a trimester system whereunder an academic year is divided into three parts and four subjects are taught in each trimester. As a result, a student would have completed sixty courses by the time he / she completes the five year term. The wide spread of subjects help our students to acquire extensive and intensive knowledge of our legal system. All subjects are compulsory upto the end of fourth year and optional seminar courses are offered in the final year. These optional seminar courses provide opportunities to specialise in certain areas. For example, a student who wishes to pursue career in corporate law may choose seminar courses on accountancy, securities law, mergers and acquisitions, etc. NLSIU encourages the involvement of outside expertise in offering seminar courses. In recent years, the seminar courses have been offered in subjects such as European Law, Telecommunication Law, Negotiation Skills, International Taxation, Media Law & Ethics, etc. To find out the courses taught at NLSIU and their distribution over the years, please check NLSIU Website: www.nls.ac.in

Another significant method of involving scholars from outside is by way of single credit courses. These courses normally comprise of 18 hour lectures spread over a week. This also facilitates the nation's otherwise busy leading professionals and academics from foreign Universities to teach at the Law School. These are intensive courses and focus on highly specialised areas of Law. Some of the single credit courses offered at NLSIU during the past couple of years include International Climate Law & Litigation, Law, Economics and Religion: A Rational Choice Perspective, Selected Issues in the Philosophical Foundations of Criminal Law, International Commercial Arbitration, Constitutional Law of the European Union, etc.

THE WEST BENGAL NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF JURIDICAL SCIENCES, KOLKATA

www.nujs.edu

www.clat.ac.in About WBNUJS

Location and Infrastructure

NUJS is located in the city of Kolkata, a major metropolis of India. Kolkata, the City of Joy, is renowned for its heritage and culture. A subtle blend of tradition and modernity distinguishes the city. The old Kolkata thrives alongside the growing expanses of modern townships, including Salt Lake City, where the NUJS campus is situated.

The campus itself has one academic and three residential blocks (i.e. two seven-storied halls of residence for girls and boys each and a two-storied staff accommodation quarters cum Guest House). The academic block, named after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, is a four-storied majestic edifice in stone, having 105 rooms in all. NUJS has everything a modern university ought to have — air-conditioned small and big class rooms, seminar halls, conference rooms, moot court hall and an air-conditioned auditorium with a

seating capacity of approximately six hundred for special and endowment lectures, conferences, convocation, cultural and other activities. The highlight of NUJS is a well-stocked, wi-fi-ed, air-conditioned library, with access to over 40,000 volumes on law, economics, politics, etc., national and international journals and all major online internet resources for law and other related social science subjects, as well as the facility to download, print and photocopy any materials. The NUJS campus also includes a bank, a canteen, state-of the-art kitchens at the hostels, health care, sports facilities including a gym and various other recreational facilities. All student hostels are wired with Internet access through dedicated leased lines & Wifi. The University has also sanctioned a computer centre.

The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS)

was established under the WBNUJS Act 1999 (West Bengal Act IX

of 1999). It is a university within the meaning of sub-section (f) of

section 2 and section 12-B of the UGC Act, 1956 and has

permanent affiliation from the Bar Council of India. The Chief

Justice of India is the Chancellor of the University and Chairman of

its highest governing body — the General Council.

In its relatively short existence, NUJS has firmly established itself

as one of the premier national law school of India. It has gone on

to be ranked amongst the top law schools in India by leading

publications such as Outlook India, Mint and LexisNexis

Halsbury's Law Monthly.

Legal Education:

NUJS strives to offer the best in legal education in order to prepare its graduates for the diverse spheres of litigation, corporate legal practice, legal academia, legal research, social service and public leadership. It offers various academic programmes including the popular five-year integrated B.A./B.Sc. LL.B (Hons.), one year LL.M, M.Phil, Ph.D and LL.D degree programmes. It also offers several diploma and certificate programmes through distant, contact and regular classroom instructions. Few short-term Diploma and Certificate programs are Post Graduate Diploma in Nuclear Law, Post Graduate Diploma in Air and Space Law, Post Graduate Diploma in Business Laws, Post Graduate Diploma in Human Rights, Certificate Course on Rights-Based Campaigning, Developing Strategy, and forging Solidarity. In LL.M. course specialization is offered in Commercial Law and International Law.

Students learn through a discussion-based, interactive classroom experience and a rigorous socratic methodology which encourages critical thinking. The academic year is divided into two semesters of equal duration followed by examination at the end of each semester. In each semester and in each course, every student undergoes rigorous training and skills learning through projects, viva voce, moot court participation and several other intensive activities. The courses combine purely legal subjects with social sciences, to provide our students with a holistic appreciation of law and its interaction with the society from a multi-disciplinary perspective. The courses also include a range of elective subjects as diverse as Corporate Finance, International Commercial Arbitration, Securities Law, Judicial Review, Competition Law, Nuclear Law, International Human Rights Law, Sports Law and Law and Economics, which give students the opportunity to specialize in their preferred areas of study. In principle only foundational courses are compulsory while all the rest are electives. Grading of results is done on a seven-point scale.

At the end of each semester, every student interns with a diverse range of organizations including law firms, senior counsel offices, in-house legal teams, NGOs, research and policy think tanks, etc.

The students are also encouraged to participate in serious research and writing, and learning editorial skills through the medium of law journals, NUJS Law Review and Journal of Indian Law and Society of which the former is a quarterly publication while the latter appears bi-annually. NUJS Law Review has also been ranked as the number one academic law journal of India for the year 2008 and 2009 by the Washington and Lee University School of Law ranking of law journals. Other Law journals are Journal of Telecommunication and Broadcasting Law, Asian Journal of Air and Space Law, Asian Journal of Legal Education, International Journal of Law and Policy Review and International

Journal of Legal Studies & Research.

All Round Education:

NUJS has a diverse and vibrant student community from all over India, including several foreign nationals. While the key focus is on academics, NUJS also has a highly developed sports and cultural programme, with teams regularly excelling at various national level competitions. Student societies of NUJS organize 4 major annual events — the literary-cum-cultural extravaganza, Outlawed, Invicta (national sports fest), the NUJS-Herbert Smith National Corporate Law Moot Court Competition, and the NUJS Parliamentary Debate. These events attract enormous participation from the best law schools in the country.

Student societies also conduct popular year-round competitions in music, dance, painting, quizzing, debating, creative writing and sports. NUJS holds tournaments not just in mainstream sports such as cricket, football and volleyball, but even sports like dodge-ball and kabaddi. Adding colour to life at NUJS are the western and eastern music bands, which have proved their mettle at competitions all across the country. NUJS also has a vibrant SPICMACAY chapter, and has hosted performers like Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt. Shivkumar Sharma and Smt. Shovana Narain. Writer's Block, the college magazine, contains campus news, and contributions in prose and poetry, giving students with literary inclinations the chance to showcase their skills. Nor do NUJS students neglect their social responsibilities. The Legal Aid Society provides a platform for students to apply the skills and knowledge acquired in the classroom and meaningfully contribute to the community. The Society takes up legal causes of indigent people either independently or in association with other organizations, assists other law schools in setting up their legal aid clinics and programmes, organizes legal awareness camps and street plays in urban and rural areas, and conducts adult education and legal awareness courses for mess, housekeeping, security and other supporting staff of NUJS. NUJS recently assisted the North Eastern Hill University (Shillong) to set up and operationalize its Legal Aid Clinic. It also recently partnered with the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) to launch SHADHINOTA, a project aimed at bringing justice and legal empowerment to inmates of correctional homes across West Bengal. NUJS believes that it is only such holistic legal education that can create the well-rounded leaders of tomorrow.

NUJS has an enviable track record in moot court competitions. NUJS students emerged as the first Indian and only the second Asian team to win the prestigious Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, Vienna. They are also the proud winners of the 2010 edition of the ELSA Moot Court Competition, held in Dominican Republic. NUJS students have performed

admirably in Willem C. Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot, Hong Kong and the Stetson International Environment Moot, Florida, Winners of Willem C. Vis Hong Kong Pan Asia Award, not to mention virtually every national moot court competition of note. Students attend and even present papers at conferences all over the world, and have regular publications in peer-reviewed journals of international repute.

With such a comprehensive programme, it is scarcely surprising that in the short span of the University's existence, NUJS alumni have distinguished themselves in a range of careers, not only on the national but also on the international stage. The student recruitment committee at NUJS boasts of a near 100% recruitment success rate. Graduating students join leading law firms and companies in India and abroad, clerk with judges at the Supreme Court, and work towards the betterment of society with prestigious NGOs. Many are upcoming litigators at the Supreme Court and various High Courts. Each year an increasing number of NUJS students gain admission to prestigious universities in U.K. like Oxford and Cambridge, and Ivy League universities of the U.S. such as Harvard and NYU. Many of them have been awarded prestigious scholarships like Rhodes and INLAKS to pursue higher studies.

NUJS has an excellent faculty with a good mix of young and experienced scholars. The faculty includes Rhodes, Fulbright, Commonwealth and Chevening scholars, and alumni from universities including Columbia University, Oxford University, University of Michigan, SOAS, University of Vanderbilt, London School of Economics, NUS, University of Liverpool and Max Planck. Faculty members have publications in prestigious international journals such as Journal of the World Intellectual Property, and the Journal of International Arbitration, to name a few and a host of Indian journals.

Many scholars of international repute from within and outside the country, including luminaries like Amartya Sen, Joseph Stiglitz, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, Mr. Pranab Bardhan, Mark Tushnet, Philippe Cullet, Prof. Timothy Endicott, Prof. Upendra Baxi, Justice M.N. Venkatachaliah, Mr. K.K. Venugopal , Mr. Vinod Rai (CAG), Justice Michael Kirby, Prof. Partha Chatterjee, Sir James Alexander Mirrless, Mr. Hans Schodder visited the University to deliver special lectures or offer short as well as regular courses on diverse subjects. The University has also entered into Memorandum of Understanding with several premier institutions across the globe for academic exchange of students and faculty such as the prestigious University of Freiburg, Germany. It also has several endowment chairs held by eminent scholars. The University has also instituted the Ford Foundation Chair on Human Rights and the MHRD Chair on Intellectual Property Rights.

Despite being able to achieve a high level of academic ambience, NUJS has maintained a relatively modest fee structure. It further seeks to ensure that no student is forced to discontinue studies on account of financial constraints. With generous donations of individuals and institutions, the University has built up a Scholarship Fund, proceeds of which are disbursed to students every year on a "need" basis. The alumni of NUJS have also instituted a scholarship. Arrangements are in place for students of NUJS to secure educational loans from any Bank of their choice on mutually agreeable terms.

Scholarships

NUJS aims to reach out to potential candidates across the length and breadth of India and provide high quality education to those hailing from the most marginalized and poorest sections of society. All efforts will be made to provide free or subsidized education to such students. NUJS offers scholarship to 10% students on need-cum-merit basis. NUJS also offers R.Gopala Krishnan and Saroja Gopala Krishnan scholarship for outstanding LL.M. student.

Towards Creating Leaders and Social Engineers:

NUJS perceives legal education as a potent instrument that will help bring about improved social order contributing in turn to national development.

Globalisation has thrown up new challenges and newer issues of concern. NUJS students are expected to adequately arm themselves to combat these challenges in mission mode. The standards set in NUJS are already very high. Those who join NUJS are expected not only to sustain, but also to improve upon these standards. NUJS promises the best return on their dedication, hard labour and committed efforts. In all, the NUJS experience will enable students to think out of the box and equip them with skills necessary to transform them into the social engineers and leaders of tomorrow.

About RGNUL

CHANAKYA NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY, PATNA

www.cnlu.ac.in

www.clat.ac.in About CNLU

Education, from time immemorial, has been the fulcrum around which the troika of society, polity and culture have prospered. Law, on the other hand, has been enjoined to not only maintain an equitable balance within this troika but also to ensure that the troika truly delivers what it is supposed to deliver for the greater good of humanity. By implication then, the quality of legal education is but a clear barometer of the advancement of a nation, since law is considered as the first act of human wisdom.

Hence, it is not a matter of coincidence that the leadership of Bihar strove to establish an institution of quality legal education – in its efforts to restore the pride and glory of this holy land and its ethos which not only saw the earliest civilization and polity but also institutions of learning that attracted scholars and students from across the world. The Chanakya National Law University is but a tribute to that ethos and an expression of the determination to revive the past glory.

The challenges for individual institutions and national higher

education systems in this global environment will depend upon the

social, economic, political and cultural development in developing

nations. In the State of Bihar, where the seeds of the earliest

republic were sown and the crop of democracy cultivated, a need

was felt by the government for a university which would provide

quality legal education and strive to raise national legal standards

to competitive international level and promote legal awareness in

the community and to inculcate social responsibility which will lead

to the realization of goals embodied in the Constitution of India.

The Undergraduate programme of the University will be

specifically geared to the current requirements of the judiciary and

the legal profession, such as the techniques of advocacy, lawyering,

arbitration, mediation, conciliation and legal and legislative

drafting and familiarity with the judicial process. It will aim to

inculcate in the young minds of students an analytical, innovative

critical and socially relevant, yet pragmatic, understanding and

application of law. The world of higher education in the 21st

century can truly be a borderless world of knowledge and ideas,

which will yield reciprocal benefits for all nations.
