The Christian life is not just diffi cult, it is impossible. The only person capable of living the Christian life is Jesus who

says in John 15:5 “Apart from me you can do nothing”.

The good news is God never intended His children to attempt to live as He intends us to, according to our own strength, wisdom or knowledge. He intends for Christ to live in us and through us for His glory.

Jesus says in John 5:19 “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of His own accord, but only what He sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise”.

God did through Jesus what He intended to do

through Adam, which was to express His wisdom, power, nature and char-acter through human vessels in their individual and unique distinctiveness. Adam’s sin (and fallen man’s sin) related to his independence from God and trusting in himself to outwork life with “self ” as the source.

Meditate on these verses: Ephesians 3:20, “Now to Him who, by the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infi nitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]”.

Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucifi ed with Christ [in Him I have shared His crucifi xion], it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me, and the life I now live in the body I live by faith in (by adherence to and reliance on and complete trust in) the Son of God,

Who loved me and gave Himself up for me”. Acts 17:28, “In Him we live and move and have our being”.

Ephesians 6:10, “Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might” – not our own.

Colossians 2:9-10, “For in Him the whole fullness of Deity continues to dwell in bodily form [giving complete expression of the divine nature]. And you are in Him, made full and having come to fullness of life [in Christ you too are fi lled with the Godhead—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—and reach full spiritual stature]”.

John 15:4, “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, nei-ther can you, unless you abide in Me”.

Last week, we have as a nation celebrated

Anzac Day. The day we set aside

each year to remember, and be thankful for those who gave their lives in war, and, especially the First and Second World Wars. We particularly remember their sacrifi ce so that we could live a life

of freedom and peace.And as we watched the

breakfast show on Anzac Day morning, and we saw and heard the remem-brances, I could not help but think of the sacrifi ce not only of those soldiers – but the sacrifi ce that Christ made for us in his death on the cross.

Let’s be thankful and celebrate, that He too gave

his life for our freedom and peace and to gain for us a secure future.

It is interesting to hear that the numbers of people attending Anzac Day services is increasing as a new generation gets on board and expresses not only an interest in, but thankfulness for, the sacrifi ces that were made initially nearly 100 years ago in the days of the First World War.

As Christians we can look back 2000 years ago and can remember the life of Christ and his sacrifi ce and be thankful for what he has done, not only for us, but for all mankind.

We remember that sacrifi ce in our worship songs and in our church services and more specifi -cally in the communion service, when using the memorial that Jesus gave, we come with thanksgiv-ing for His sacrifi ce.

I hope that Anzac Day continues for many more years to come and that all men will continue to remember the death and sacrifi ce of Jesus until he comes back.

As the bible says in 2 Corinthians 9:15 (NIV) 15 Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
