Kneaded eraser and chamois cloth. Your papers should include a large newsprint pad and a few sheets light gray toned Canson Mi-Teintes paper. Bring a drawing board or foam board to mount your paper. ABOUT OUR INSTRUCTORSJEFF BURNS received his BFA from CNU and has taught art in Hampton City Schools for 15 years.

EMILY CHRISTOFF-FLOWERS has BFA from Bowling Green SU and is a Pastel Society of America member.

JIM DEES enjoys experimental approaches to art and has taught watercolor classes over the years.

HOLLAND WENTZ ETHERIDGE holds a BA in Fine Arts from W&M and has 8 years teaching experience.

STEPHANIE FALESKI received her BFA from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania, worked 20 years as a graphic designer and has taught painting classes since 2013.

JERRY GAMMON has been photographing since 1995 and teaching photography for several years.

SHARON JUDKINS studied with Barclay Sheaks, has a BFA from ECU and is a signature member of VWS.

PAM ODEN has studied and exhibited widely including the Virginia Watercolor Society Juried Exhibition.

MARY LEE RUFF is a widely exhibited, award winning artist whose work is in the permanent collection of CHTAC.

PAINTING IN OILS OR ACRYLICS SATURDAYS High School and AdultsStudents with any level of experience from beginning to more advanced may work with oils and acrylics and explore their own style and original subject matter. Beginning students will learn fundamental materials and techniques, while more experienced students will be challenged to reach another level. OILS THROUGHOUT THE AGES High School and AdultsStudents will learn to paint in three important oil methods. First they will learn the classical style of glazing and underpainting used by the masters of old. Second, students will create wet on wet paintings like the impressionists. The third method will be experimenting with modern oil techniques. Advanced painters may work independently if they wish. The class will feature lecture, demonstration, individual instruction and critiques. FORT MONROE PHOTO WALK AND STUDIO CRITIQUE Ages 18+This class is for photographers who would like to enjoy an early evening-into-night photo walk at historic Fort Monroe followed up the next week with a classroom critique of up to 10 photos made by each participant during the walk. The first class will meet at the Gazebo, next to the Chamberlin, at 6:30pm. After a brief orientation, we will walk as a group to some of the famous landmarks at the Fort, ending the walk at a great spot for a sunset, probably around 9:15pm. The second class will be held at The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center from 6:30 to 9:00pm. The instructor will critique the photos using guidelines that will be given to each student as a handout. The photos will be critiqued anonymously unless the photographer wishes to identify their shots during the critique. The class is for photographers of all skill levels. Participants will need a DSLR camera where they can shoot on the full auto or custom settings.
