on the front Cover:The textile featured is the Thousand Islands tartan designed by Emily Post, the first dean of the Craft School. Emily chose these colors to represent the blue sparkling river, the green trees at the shore and the orange glowing evening sunsets. The TI tartan along with the St. Lawrence tartan are two of the few registered tartans that are not family or clan tartans.

TIAC MISSION STATEMENT:To preserve and promote art and craft through education, instruction, exhibitions and our permanenttextile collection.

raKu fIrInGssarah simsRaku firing is a Japanese process of using natural combustibles like wood and leaves to impart smoky effects on pottery that are pulled from the kiln at its mature temper-ature. Participants can puchase and glaze a pot made by the Arts Center potter, which is then fired in an outdoor kiln. Enjoy a night in the Pottery Studio and watch the act of opening the kiln at full temperature and removing pots while they are glowing hot. The full process involves lots of heat and fire! Whether participating or just watching, all are welcome to attend.
