CLASH OF THE TITANS CHERRYBROOK TECH ADEPTS Updated: Saturday 1 st November 2014 Welcome to Cherrybrook Tech Adepts’ Clash of the Titans 2015 for players of Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer Fantasy, The Hobbit, Warmachine / Hordes, Flames of War, Malifaux, X-Wing, DBA and Blood Bowl : Saturday 21 st & Sunday 22 nd February 2015. 10 years! Wow. CTA has been holding this convention for 10 years and we think it’s time to celebrate. This year we have 10 separate tournaments. There is usual Warhammer 40k General and Junior, Warhammer Fantasy, The Hobbit (previously known as Lord of the Rings), Warmachine/Hordes (with its on/off habit), Flames of War and Malifaux. It is good to see Blood Bowl back this year, plus we welcome X-Wing and D.B.A (De Bellis Antiquetatis). Our aim is to provide every participant in our events as enjoyable an experience as possible. This is achieved in part by playing on carefully created boards and scenery. Another is to make the event run as smoothly as possible with few to no organisational problems. However, we feel the most important factor is that people wish to enjoy playing a game with their opponent, rather than having every rule exploited to achieve victory at any cost. As a result, as with all of the events run by Cherrybrook Tech Adepts, the hobby is to have its own component and prizes. Sportsmanship, painting and army selection are just as, if not more important to our hobby than winning. We hope that all competitors have an enjoyable time at our event and will recommend participation to their friends for next year. If there are any general questions, salutations, complaints etc please direct them to us at [email protected] as the Convention Organiser. Sportsmanship & ConductSportsmanship is an important part of Clash of the Titans and 3++con, not because it is part of the scoring system butbecause it’s part and parcel of having an enjoyable game – whatever the reason you are there. It’s simply within thespirit of the game to be a good and genial opponent. Clash of the Titans and 3++con is all about enjoying all aspects ofthe hobby and our hobby is a social one. This requires a certain amount of human decency and for that reasonSportsmanship will play a part in Clash of the Titans and 3++con. The aim of sportsmanship is to ensure everyone isbehaving like mature adults and to rewards those outstanding individuals who are just fantastic to play against.

Grading SportsEach round you will be given a sheet of paper to fill out. On that sheet will be a scale for sportsmanship as follows –please fill this out for each opponent.

Description Player’s Score

0This player did not play in the spirit of the game, slow playing, blatantly cheated and was unfriendly in general. THIS BEHAVIOUR SHOULD BE REPORTED TO A JUDGE IMMEDIATELY. Scores of 0 will require an explanation to a judge.

1This player was okay but didn’t make the game enjoyable whilst not making the game unbearable. There wasn’t evidence of foul play.

2This player is your average gamer. You’d enjoy having another game with them and you solved all issues maturely and quickly. Most players should score this.

3

This player is simply fantastic and you would go out of your way to have another game with them. Not only did they approach the game in a mature and adult manner but made the social interaction of the game one of the most memorable moments of the weekend. You should only give this score to one or two players.

It’s important to note that asking for a rules clarification, either working it out together or asking a judge, is not poorsportsmanship when the requests are genuine. You should be handing out 2’s to most of your opponent’s and any scorelower than this will require a conversation with the judge to explain your reasoning. Masses of 3’s will require thesame explanation. Each day you will be asked to rate one of your opponent’s as your Best Opponent.

Poor SportsmanshipThe judges reserve the right to remove any individuals behaving in an unfit manner. The most obvious behaviourswhich would receive such treatment are cheating, using loaded dice or being overly aggressive and behaving in an

inappropriate manner. Low sportsmanship marks will be treated very seriously by judges and if individuals are notplaying within the spirit of the game, they will be asked to leave. Individuals who receive multiple and appropriatesports scores of 0 or 1 will be asked to leave. Individuals who are removed in this way will not be allowed to return.

Tournament SystemThis tournament is based on 64 attendees. Modifications will be made as necessary if there are fewer players. Thetournament will be split into two individual days where the first day seeds you for the opportunity to fight for differentgeneralship prizes on Day 2. Importantly only the top 16 and bottom 16 players will go into specific brackets –everyone else will continue playing as per normal in a “mosh pit” (aka a normal tournament) where players arematched up based on W/L and battle point record. It’s important to note that even by not being in a bracket Day 2,there are still many prizes one can achieve.

Please note, the right is reserved to cherry pick people out of the bottom brackets and place them in the mosh pitin the event we feel someone is deliberately tanking to play against people they believe they are better than to gaina prize.

Bracket Format Knock-out format akin to what is seen in major sporting tournaments like the NCAA or Tennis Reverse ‘losing’ bracket to make sure everyone gets six games in and can still improve their OVERALL

ranking and the potential for prizes Seeding is based upon your W/L record and Victory Points acquired Day 1; not everyone will be seeded into

one of the brackets Winning players within the bracket will move on to play other winning players until there is one player who is

undefeated within the bracket left The reverse track does this for losing individuals as well which allows each individual to be sorted from 1 st

through to 8th within their bracketGraphical Depiction of Brackets

Battle PointsAlthough this is a Win/Loss based tournament, Battle Points do come into play and measure how well yousuccessfully control each mission parameter compared to your opponent. These will be used for calculating 60% ofthe OVERALL score of each individual and shall influence seeding within brackets for Day 2. For all intents andpurposes, Battle Points are the earned Victory Points within a given round. This is explained more in the missionssection of this pack.

TerrainClash of the Titans will strive to ensure terrain is of high quality and equal spread over all 32 tables. The terrain layoutwill follow this rough guideline.

Cover 25% of the board Have multiple pieces of terrain which block line of sight (these will tend not to be large and will be able to hide

one or two units rather than whole armies) Be a mix of terrain types – hills, ruins, area terrain, etc.

Tournament Rules & Army ListsThere will be six games over the weekend, three on Saturday and Sunday each. The first three games are ‘seeding’ games with theplayers divided up into brackets and one general pool for the final three games on Sunday (explained above). Each game is basedupon a Win/Loss format (there are no Draws!) and you will only play against individuals with the same W-L. The missions willexplain this more.

RulesClash of the Titans is about enjoying the game with a bunch of other like-minded people. We are celebrating everyaspect of the game here and we expect everyone to behave appropriately. First and foremost you must bring a goodattitude to get the most enjoyment out of Clash of the Titans! Treat others how you would like to be treated. The organisers reserve the right to remove any individuals behaving inappropriately and not playing within the spiritof the game. Players should make their way to their tables within 10 minutes of the round starting – not doing so couldresult in a forfeit.

FAQ’s & Models Games Workshop FAQ’s and erratas (available online) will be used for Clash of the Titans and 3++con dated up untilthe 8 February 2015. Additional material covering issues not addressed by Games Workshop will be released prior tothe event. All models must be What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG). Counts-as armies or armies using models not yetsupplied by Games Workshop are allowed as long as the model(s) is clearly identifiable and appropriately sized. If youare unsure of this at all I would highly recommend sending pictures of your army to the email address given to ensurethere will be no issues on the day. Models must be modelled with appropriate based sizes (cardboard cut-outs work) in the event of any older modelswith different base sizes (i.e. Broadsides).

Page 5: CLASH OF THE TITANScherrybrooktechadepts.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/... · CLASH OF THE TITANS CHERRYBROOK TECH ADEPTS Updated: Saturday 1st November 2014 Welcome to Cherrybrook

Your army MUST be painted to a three colour standard minimum on EVERY model otherwise you will not be eligiblefor prizes.

JudgesJudge rulings are final. If you have a rules dispute ensure you ask a judge ASAP – do not wait until after the game andcomplain; we will NOT go back and ‘fix’ perceived problems within a game – you must tell us as it happens. They arehere to help so make sure you use them but listen to what they say – not doing so after they have said something willresult in the loss of the game (or removal from tournament if the infringement is serious enough).

Slow-playingI’m shamelessly taking this and the missions from the 11th Company GT – enjoy or rage .This year we will be implementing a slow play policy. When you record your round results, you will also be includingthe round that the game ended on. If the game ended on Turn 5, you will also be recording if it ended naturally. Asrounds progress, you will be added slow play points to you based on this information and does so as follows:

- Game Ended on Round 1 –8 demerit points- Game Ended on Round 2 – 8 demerit points- Game Ended on Round 3 – 4 demerit points- Game Ended on Round 4 – 3 demerit points- Game Ended on Round 5 due to time – 1 demerit point

Each time your accrue 8 points, 5 battle points will be deducted automatically from your total starting on the round atwhich you accrued the points. Points also carry over should you exceed 8 points towards the next 8 points.

A Battle Point penalty in this manner can cost your standing severely. It could determine your bracket. It coulddetermine your standing in the overall event.

IF YOU ARE A NATURALLY SLOW PLAYER, DO NOT BRING A SLOW PLAYING LIST, OR PRACTICEHEAVILY WITH YOUR LIST. IT IS NOT FAIR TO ALL OF YOUR OPPONENTS WHO DO NOT GET TOCOMPLETE FULL GAMES TO ACCOMMODATE YOUR SLOWER PLAY STYLE. THEREFORE,PRACTICE PLAYING FASTER.

The Missions

Missions are being pulled from the Independent Mission Catalogue. The IMC provides us with very robust missionswhich enhance the game and GT in the following ways above and beyond normal rule book missions:How Missions Work:

1. Before any dice rolls are made, swap army lists.2. Considering your opponent’s army and the match-up, look at the two possible Primary Mission Goals.Select the one you think will best suit your army in the match-up and secretly note it down.3. Now, also considering the match-up, select 3 Secondary Mission Goals from the list of available SecondaryGoals that you think will best suit your army in the match-up and secretly note it down.4. Reveal your choices to your opponent, and he/she will do the same.5. Roll for table sides and continue with normal game process…

Battle Points:The Battle Points you accrue each mission is equal to your Primary Mission Score. Whichever Primary Mission Goalyou choose will describe how you arrive at that score. The Max Score is always a 9.After that, you will add in 2 points for each Secondary Mission Goal you achieve, for a maximum of 6 additionalpoints. Thus, the maximum Battle Points you can earn for a round is 15.

Mission #1: CrusadeDeployment: Dawn of War

Objective Placement: Place 6 Objectives on the table using the following guidelines. Place 4 objectives such thateach objective is 24 inches from a short table edge and 12 inches from a long table edge. Finally, place 2 moreobjectives such that they are 12 inches from each short table edge and 24 inches from each long table edge.

PaintingJust like some people are very competitive about their playing ability, some people are very competitive about theirpaint ability and it is certainly a part of the hobby we all participate in! Painting will be judged on the day by multiplepainting judges (with their scores averaged).

Paint ScoringPaint scoring system is designed to reward players who have exceptional skill without disadvantaging those with minimal talent with a paintbrush. That being said, we expect effort put into your armies. There is a three colour minimum standard but that will not get you the average score (15/30). Painting will be 30% of your Overall score. This is the same table used in Clash of the Titans and 3++con 2013.

Clash of the Titans8th Edition Rules

Welcome to Clash of the Titans 2015. The End Times are here and Clash will take place as never before. This is no-holds-barred Warhammer Fantasy. These are Titans. Please, tell me more!

Clash of the Titans 2015 will take place on the weekend of 21-22 February at Cherrybrook Tech High School, Sydney, NSW.

List submissions are due before midnight 7th February 2015. Late lists will be penalised at a cost of 1BP/day. Lists are to be submitted to [email protected] in Microsoft Word/Wordpad/equivalent format.

Cost: $45 for entries made prior to 7th February and $55 thereafter. Registration and payment to be made through the Clash of the Titans website.

But I’ve never been to a Tournament before!! No problems! We are happy to organise Experienced Mentors for any new or budding tournament gamer.

These Experienced Mentors can help you with list design, rules queries or even just by introducing you to the players in the scene! All you have to do is email the Tournament Organiser to request an Experienced Mentor and we can find someone to help introduce you to one of the best aspects of the hobby!

What forces am I to muster? Clash of the Titans will employ Warhammer Fantasy 8th Edition ruleset and armies must be no more than 2500

points. Chaos Dwarf army lists may be chosen from Tamurkhan but a copy of Tamurkhan must be brought along to

the event. Armies from The End Times: Nagash and The End Times: Glottkin will be permitted. Special Characters except for Nagash will be permitted (Nagash is too busy plotting to control the Winds of

Magic!). Folding Fortress is not permitted. Participants have the option of submitting their list into the “Fluff Bunny” category

o These lists will be significantly softer than the standard of the rest of the tournament and will be characterised by unusual choices, non-optimised magic item selection, any written fluff to justify the army etc.

o There will be a maximum of 10 “Fluff Bunny” lists selected. o First round random draw for “Fluff Bunny” lists will only be against other “Fluff Bunny” lists. o Second and later rounds will be ranked and drawn against the entire group of tournament lists. o The top 3 ranked “Fluff Bunny” lists will be awarded a separate set of prizes.

The ten lists deemed to be the toughest will named the “Tough as Nails” lists. o First round random draw for “Tough as Nails” lists will only be against other “Tough as Nails” lists. o Second and later rounds will be ranked and drawn against the entire group of tournament lists.

What about the Rules? Maximum 12 power dice may be used in a magic phase excluding Night Goblin “magic mushroom” dice. Magical terrain will be in full effect for forests, buildings, swamps and rivers. The Tournament Organiser reserves the right to reject any list deemed to be in an excessive negative playstyle

with full feedback to be provided for resubmission. Models must accurately portray the units they are representing - proxies are not allowed though appropriately

justified conversions/alternative miniature choices are acceptable. Chalice of Blood and Darkness cannot be used between casting and dispelling a spell. Tally of Nurgle is inactive if Epidemius is in the Portalglyph. For all rules disputes the official Games Workshop FAQs and Errata documents will be used. For any remaining disputes the Tournament Organiser will make a decision and this decision will be final. An official “Clash of the Titans FAQ/errata” thread will be available on www.wargamerau.com for any rules

questions to be answered prior to tournament commencement.

Any Scenarios for the tournament? (90 Tournament Points) You’d better believe it! Rulebook scenarios will be used with a few minor exceptions;

o Game 1: Dawn Attack Bonus 200 Victory Points for each standard you have in your opponent’s deployment zone at

the end of the game. Scored on a 20-0 system, see Victory Point Table below.

o Game 2: Battle Line Win/Loss/Draw system for this game. Draw scores 10-10 and is a difference of less than 200 Victory Points between armies. Win/Loss is scored 15-5 Battle Points.

o Game 3: Blood and Glory The game ends when the losing army Breaks (Break Point is 3!) and the game will be scored

15-5 in favour of the Breaking Army. o Game 4: Battle for the Pass

Banners captured are worth 100 Victory Points instead of the normal 25 Victory Points. Scored on a 20-0 system, see Victory Point Table below.

o Game 5: Battle Line An objective will be placed in the middle of the table. The unit with the highest static combat

resolution within 6” of the objective at the end of the game will score an additional 400 Victory Points for the owning player’s army.

Scored on a 20-0 system, see Victory Point Table below:Victory Point Table (including bonuses for killing the General, capturing the Battle Standard and Standards as per the Rulebook)Victory Points Difference Battle Points 0-199 10-10 200-349 11-9 350-449 12-8 450-599 13-7 600-799 14-6 800-999 15-5 1000-1199 16-4 1200-1399 17-3 1400-1599 18-2 1600-1799 19-2 1800+ 20-0 What about Sportmanship? (25 Tournament Points)

It is assumed that all players will score full points for sports. Any issues with players should be raised with theTO, who reserves the right to dock sports points for poor behaviour.

Poor behaviour is not defined as not making your opponent laugh until they hit the floor! Poor behaviour is cheating, “rubber ruler syndrome”, slow play etc. You know what the deal is. Play the game in the spirit of thegame!

Sportsmanship is the most important aspect of the game at Clash of the Titans! Each day players will have an opportunity to nominate their opponents for an “Awesome Champ” point as per Score Sheet to be provided.

The top four “Awesome Champ” point-scorers (using Battle Points as a decider) will face off in a special arena at the end of the tournament. Each player will select one of their characters to enter the arena with the objective of killing a Secret Opponent (to be revealed on the day)!

Heckling by the Audience will be encouraged at this event as it will take place just prior to the awards ceremony.

The first character to kill the Secret Opponent through any means will win the award of Titan Champion!

Does painting even matter anymore? (15 Tournament Points) Of course it does!! Painting will be scored on a three-tier basis:

o An army that is fully painted and based to a reasonable, 3-colour minimum standard with movement trays and appropriately represented models will score 15 Tournament Points.

o An army that is mostly painted or missing minor elements such as movement trays/basing will score 5Tournament Points.

o An army that has more than 20% models unpainted or has significant other incomplete elements will score 0 Tournament Points.

A selection of armies will be shortlisted by the Tournament Organiser for the Kickass Painter award. These will be put on display prior to the start of Round 5 and players will have the ability to rate their top three choices. Prizes shall be awarded accordingly.

This Tournament Organiser is dedicated to running a Clash of the Titans that will fully live up to the spirit of the previous years and then some! Please submit any questions to me at [email protected] and I look forward to seeing you in February!

Clash of NationsVersion 1.0

GeneralThe 10th running of Clash of the Titans convention sees The Northern Sydney Stormtroopers present The Clash of Nations hosted by the Cherrybrook Tech Adepts. This is a Flames of War tournament for the Late War period based in the European Theatre of Operations. The Clash of Nations is a campaign based event with players split into one of 2 or 4 teams to represent the two Alliances Allies West/East and Axis West/East. Entrant armies may result in some traitor armies to balance the Alliances. When registration reaches 5 for each team (total of 20 players) we reserve the right to restrict further entrants in pairs (one for each matched team). In this situation you don’t need to find your own partner but it would ensure your entrance if you did. In the event we have less than 20 players there will be only 2 teams to represent Alliesand Axis.

Before round 2 each team will elect a ‘Commanding General’ (CG) whose task will be to allocate ‘supply’ points for the 2nd and subsequent rounds. If the CG is decided before the tournament then they may elect to nominate which player each round will contest the campaign slots.

Each round will see either 1 or 2 ‘Campaign’ battles. These games will decide the outcome of the overall campaign and winning team. Each player will contest at least one Campaign battle during the tournament. The non-campaign games in each round will generate supply points for the winners team to be spent in the following round.

Supply points are spent by the CG of each team to increase the army size of a player; a Supply Point means the player can use their 1750 point list instead of the unsupplied 1500 point list. Unspent Supply points cannot be retained and are lost. As the matchups and tables are known prior to Supply point allocation, this mechanism can be used to manipulate who defends and provide assistance where it is needed most. Note that players who receive a supply point in a Defensive Battle where the opponent does NOT receive a supply point will take the role of Attacker if both armiesare the same type.

Point LimitsEach player requires a 1500 and 1750 point list. The 1750 point list must contain at least the same number and size of combat platoons (companies for Soviets) as the 1500 point list. These units may be expanded, upgraded or options added but cannot be reduced. Weapon and Support platoons (or companies) can be re-done completely. Warriors are permitted. When a supply point is being used the 1750 point list can be utilised otherwise the 1500 point list must be taken. The first round every player has the option to use a Supply point and take their 1750 point list to battle.

ArmiesAll Late War books and PDFs are valid. If a PDF is being utilised 3 copies must be brought, one for the TO, one for your current opponent and one for yourself.

Scoring Normal victory rules are in use with the exception of ‘Fair Fight’ missions were a win is still possible without an Objective capture (eg 2-1, 3-1, 3-2 is a win). Any draw will yield neither Supply or Campaign points for either side. A victory in a Campaign game will earn a Campaign point towards overall victory whereas a non-campaign victory will earn a supply point for the next round.

Missions The 5 rounds are split between Campaign and non-Campaign battles.Campaign Mission sequence (Operation Bagration)

1. 1 Breakthrough2. 2 Free for All3. 3 Dust Up4. 4 No Retreat5. 5 Fighting Withdrawal

Non-Campaign Mission sequence (Supply point generation)

1. 1 No Retreat2. 2 Fighting Withdrawal3. 3 Free for All4. 4 Dust Up5. 5 Breakthrough

Page 16: CLASH OF THE TITANScherrybrooktechadepts.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/... · CLASH OF THE TITANS CHERRYBROOK TECH ADEPTS Updated: Saturday 1st November 2014 Welcome to Cherrybrook

Note: As each player will fight in one Campaign battle they will miss out on one scenario format and play another twice. For example by playing the Campaign battle in round one both players will play the ‘Breakthrough’ mission and not the non-campaign ‘No Retreat’ mission. In round 5 they will play ‘Breakthrough’ again. Opponents will be based on the team you are in and with the exception of traitor armies each battle will be ‘red on blue’.

Pre-round ActionsFrom round 2 onwards. After player matchup and tables are announced including the designated campaign game(s) the TO will inform each CG of available Supply points. There is a minimum of 1 supply point per Alliance/Front. The allocation process is as follows.

With four teams the Allied CG may send Supply points to the Soviet CG The German CGs make an initial allocation of points.. The Soviet CG nominates a German team (East or West) to show its allocation which is then fixed. The remaining three teams (one German) can then allocate their supply points.

Each round after the first the German Alliance after initial player matchup may announce ONE player switch where a West German player switches with an East German player. No player may be switched more than once, nor may a player be required to play against a switched opponent on consecutive turns. Players in a Campaign battles cannot be switched.

Army SubmissionList submission is to be a minimum of one week prior to the tournament to the designated TO. All armies should be at a presentable standard. That is, painted and based, that you are willing to be in charge of.

Referee DecisionsAll decisions made by the TO and/or convention organisers are final and must be adhered to.Any direction given by an authorised club or staff member must be followed.

TerrainEvery effort will be made to provide interesting tables. It is envisioned at this stage all tables will be provided by the Northern Sydney Stormtroopers and the Cherrybrook Tech Adepts. If assistance is sought we will reach out. Forests and grain fields will be plentiful but not dominant - infantry should be able to find concealment on an advance. Linear obstacles that split the table will be avoided to encourage rapid manoeuvre.

Notes:Grain fields will conceal vehicles should any part of the LOS pass through them, while acting as Forrest for infantry - 6" LOS if inside. The TO decision on terrain will be final.

PrizesAs in previous iterations the winning Alliance will receive victory medals with a special General medal for the CG. Overall prize support is still being determined but the majority of prizes will be allocated by random draw. This is due both to the difficulty in determining a winner with varying list size and supply point allocation and to give every player a chance to walk away with something. There is no ranked sports, composition, list or history scoring but please feel free to provide a unit history. If prize support permits a best presented army will be awarded. This will be based on figure painting as done by the player and will not include marks for display boards or historiesthough these can be used.

Clash on the AnduinARMY RESTRICTIONS (What you can field)When writing your Army List and preparing your Army for Clash on the Anduin you’ll need to make sure it meets the tournament rules. These rules are:• No more than 1000 points may be spent on your army.• You must choose your army from one of those listed in ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Strategy Battle Game Rulebook’ (see page 102).• You must construct your army list using the following source books: The Fallen Realms; Mordor; Angmar and Moria; The Free Peoples; and/orThe Kingdom of Men, The Hobbit, An Unexpected Journey source and rule books or The Hobbit, The Desolation of Smaug sourcebook. • Allies may be selected to compliment your original Army as long as it satisfies the rules for “Adding Allies” on page 101 of ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Strategy Battle Game Rulebook’.• Good Armies cannot include Tom Bombadil or Goldberry.• Remember that named Heroes (Gandalf, Aragorn, Lurts, the Witchking, etc.) can only be taken once.• A full set of Errata & FAQs for all these Army Books are maintained on the Games Workshop web site. These updates take precedence: Please refer to them.•All models in your army MUST be „WYSIWYG” (what you see is what you get). Any model that is not “WYSIWYG” may be removed from the table or lose the option for that wargear option regardless of whether you have payed for it in your list or not.•In addition to your army you must also bring 5 objective markers that tie in with your army. Each objective must be placed on a 25mm, 40mm or 60mm base

BATTLESAll of the following Scenarios will be played over the course of the tournament and each scenario will be played only once.• To The Death• Lords of Battle

• Domination• Reconnoitre

• Hold Ground!• The High Ground

NB: Please make sure to read all your rules carefully as wording is very specific and could mean the difference of a major win/loss.Instructions for each Scenario can be found on pages 103-109 of ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Strategy Battle Game Rulebook’ or pages 9-15 of the current source books. We will provide no games equipment so players must provide all material. You must bring along a copy of the latest edition of the rules as we will not be providing copies of scenarios, how terrain features work, or details on how to work out the winner of each game.

PREPARE FOR BATTLEThe rules below apply for all games, across all tables:• Scenery for the battle will have been set up by the referees and should not be moved or changed unless directed.• Players should discuss how the scenery might affect the battle before sides are rolled for. Some scenery may even have specific instructions written under the base.• Read your rules and unit rules carefully, as they are very specifically worded. This could mean the difference between winning and losing.• In all scenarios, unless specified, Heroes are not allowed to pick up weapons or any other piece of equipment from slain enemies.• Objectives count as impassable terrain and do not block line of sight in any way.• As some boards will include woods, woods will follow the following rules: -Any model shooting into a forest will have to pass an „in the way test‟ this also includes models shooting at other models who are in the same wood. -If a model is touching the outside edge of the wood, they do not need to take an “in the way” to shoot out, and they still count as having an „in the way‟ between them and other models. -For a model to benefit from being in a wood they must have their base fully inside the wood. -Models that have their base wholly or partially in the wood count as moving at half speed. • The Spider Queen, Shelob and Giant Spiders movement special rule will be modified in the following ways: -None of Spiders may end their move on a building or similar terrain feature that causes them to be balanced on that terrain feature -They must have their base on the ground (in relation to the table) when they enter a combat. Design Note: the main reason for this rule so that we don’t have people running the spiders up a wall and attacking on the way down. This is to prevent models being vertical when they engage in combat and players arguing where their base starts and ends. • All measurements during Clash on the Anduin must be made using inches.

COMPOSITIONEach army will be given a Composition Score by the tournament organiser. They will look at the following:

• Number of Models• Number of Warbands• Number of Might

• Number of Will• Number of Ranged Weapons

17

Page 18: CLASH OF THE TITANScherrybrooktechadepts.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/... · CLASH OF THE TITANS CHERRYBROOK TECH ADEPTS Updated: Saturday 1st November 2014 Welcome to Cherrybrook

• Average Fight• Average Strength• Average Defence

• Average Courage• Average Movement

•• The average stats for the army will be compared against the average across all competitors. If the value obtained for your army is

equal to or under the average for that category you will be awarded one point, those above do not. In order to compare everyone’s armies the comp score will be generated prior to the tournament, as such it is even more essential to submit your army list at least two weeks prior to the event otherwise you will be ineligible for comp judging.

• SPORTSMANSHIP• We include this category to encourage players to participate in the best spirit of the game. After each round you will need to

answer a yes or no based on each question bellow regarding how your opponent played the game.• • Provide you with a copy of their army list and explained any unit choices or upgrades that you were unsure about?• • Make all their measurements and dice rolls clearly and accurately and stated what they needed so there was no

confusion as to how far unit’s moved or how far away units were for shooting/magic/charging? (No ‘rubber rulers’ and you could see how far they were moving).

• • Discuss any rules questions with you that came up and/or consult the rulebook BEFORE asking a staff member to make a ruling? (If no questions were asked mark yes)

• • Play briskly and in an organised fashion and not stall for time so as to gain an advantage• • Play the game in a way where you enjoyed yourself and enjoyed playing against them regardless of whether you

were winning or losing?•• At the end of the 6th round, all players will be asked to vote on which opponent they thought was the most sporting

player.

• PAINTING• Players can get a maximum painting score of 30. This will be decided by the judge(s) during the army parade before games on the

second morning (before Round 4). • Basics:• -No metal/plastic visible on any model?• -No undercoat visible on any model?• -Is every model in the Army is fully painted?• -Is every model in the army is based?• - Have you made your Objective and based and painted them to the standard of your army?• +10pts (2 per field)• Intermediate:• - Is your army’s painting scheme cohesive?• - Is every single model in your army list “WYSIWYG” (what you see is what you get)?• - Has a layer of highlighting and shading been used?• - Has the basing on all the models been taken a further step (eg. using different shade of flock or other basing materials)?• - Can you easily recognise every hero and special units in the army (such as trolls or banners)?• +10pts (2 per field)• Masterclass:• - Multiple highlighting and shading steps have been used across the entire army• - The army includes conversions• - The army includes free hand painting on the majority of the figures in the army• - The army has a display board that blends in with the army• - Every single model in the army is painted to the exact same standard.• +10pts (2 per field)

difficult to score the full 5 points. Players are encouraged to show off their Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit knowledge by using quotes from the movie or books, or displays of writing that explain their army list in a creative way. Any extra effort put into a players army list or army in general will be rewarded.

•• SUBMITTING YOUR ARMY LIST• Players are expected to provide their army list for the tournament to the TO by no later than 2 weeks before the tournament (i.e.

De Bellis AntiquetatisDBA 15mm

De Bellis Antiquitatis (DBA) is an abstract fast play set of ancient and mediaeval wargaming rules. While simple to learn in a functional sense, it is a worthwhile and demanding game to play well. A small number of figures are required, play is on a 60cm by 60cm board and each game lasts well under an hour.

DBA 2.2 rules will be used.

Format: 6 or 7 rounds (to be determined after number of entrants known). Players are to be in attendance by 9am with a view to the first round starting no later than 9.20am.

Rules played as written including as to Built Up Areas (BUAs) and Dismounting.

Players may choose any army from the DBA 2.2 rules. Options are determined at deployment, including an attacker being permitted to choose his or her options after seeing the deployment of the defender.

A modified swiss chess draw will be used.

Scoring will reward wins, with number of elements killed and lost, generals killed and camps looted only used to discriminate between otherwise equal scores.

Beginners are welcome, and a limited number of armies may be available for loan on the day.It is preferable that players bring their own terrain but there will be some terrain available for use on the day. Dice willbe provided though players may use their own with the consent of their opponent.

Prizes are dependent upon the number of entrants.

GENERAL INFORMATIONROLE OF OUR T.O.s (TOURNAMENT ORGANISER)Rules queries can be addressed to your TO, who may alsointervene if there is a dispute. Be warned, however, that our TOsare under strict instructions to give players one of two answers toany question they are asked:• 1. They will show you the rule in its relevant place in therulebook or Force book.• 2. They will instruct you to roll a D6 to sort out any other rulesproblems.

You should also note that the prime duty of our TOs is to makesure that the majority of players in the tournament get a nicefriendly game where winning is secondary to having a good time.Anyone who keeps on spoiling a game with picky rules questionsor who consistently bends the rules in their favour will be asked todesist or suffer the consequences. This may happen either during agame or as a result of consistently poor sportsmanship scores. TOswill have a simple card system to adjudicate this kind of ruling:• YELLOW: A Yellow Card will be shown to the player and theirplayer number and name logged. This card is a warning.• RED: A Red Card will be shown to the player and their playernumber and name logged. 5 Tournament points per Red Card willbe taken from a Red booked player’s Tournament totals.

The decision of the TO is final, and no discussion will be enteredinto. Arguing with the TO following a decision will be a REDCARD offence. If following a RED CARD a player continues toargue or they receive a second Red card, the Convention Organiser(CO) reserves the right to eject the player from the Clash of theTitans. No refunds will be made for ejected players.

OTHER PENALTIES:If a player receives aberrant or, in the opinion of the judges, unwarranted scores for Force Composition or Code of Conduct theTOs may choose to add or subtract Force Composition points to thescores of the players involved. Also, tables are numbered and players will be expected to play onthe table assigned to them. If players do not play on that table tothem points may be deducted at the discretion of the TO.

PAINTING STANDARDSFirst and foremost, you should be the one rewarded for yourpainting effort. If you have hired or paid someone else to paint itfor you, you will not be eligible for any sort of painting prize.Minimum painting standards are three colours on each model in anappropriate scheme. Models should also be appropriately based. Ifthe game system has requirements for base sizes these are to befollowed, or miniatures may need to be removed. Suffice to saythat an undercoat is not enough! You will not be asked to removeany unpainted models, but bonus points will go to those with fullypainted armies. The Army must be WYSIWYG, or ‘what you see iswhat you get’. This means that weapons, armour options andupgrades chosen from the army list must be shown on charactersand on the majority of the models in a unit or squad. All no-compliant models will be removed from the table. They must be ofthe appropriate type for the troops they represent.

BEHAVIOURWe realise this doesn’t probably need to be said but we willanyway. Remember the convention is the meeting place for a mixof ages and temperaments. On that basis, please keep yourbehaviour (including language) to a level that the CO wouldn’t beembarrassed to hear in front of his two young children. Thisextends to apparel – if your T-shirt, jacket etc could possibly causeoffence, please leave it at home. Please remember that as this is held on Departmentof Education property, and that school students areworking at the event, absolutely NO alcohol, drugsor cigarettes are to be brought onto the premises.Zero tolerance will be used on any persons found tobe disregarding this warning. This extends topersons suspected of being under the influence ofsaid items.

PRIZES AND PLACINGSAWARDS CEREMONYThe Awards Ceremonies take place after the terrain boards have been packed away at the conclusion of the final game for eachindividual tournament. We urge players to stay for their awards ceremony if they possibly can, so that they can cheer the winnersand commiserate with the losers! The list of prizes is based on a minimum number of participants to make the prizes viable. Theseare listed below. Due to the uncertainty of entry numbers, some awards may only be given as a certificate. We will make everyeffort to give out as many prizes as possible, but sometimes it’s just not financially viable. On the other side of the coin, however,if we receive a large number of entrants, sponsorship or prize support, it will be possible to include more prizes than what is listedhere. We do the Best Painted, Best Army Selection and Best Sportsman awards because our hobby is not just about winning atall costs. It’s also about having fun, being considerate of your opponent’s enjoyment, painting nice armies and playing in afriendly and sporting manner. All award winners will also receive a second Custom Participant’s Dice.
