    Come to Me and Rest

    Vic G. Aguisanda

Meril E. Robles

Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest ( Mt. 11:28)In this world, each one of us is

confronted with different problems, and challenges. It is a fact that for as long as we live, we will always have loads to carry, like it or not. Sometimes, some of us feel that it seems our troubles never end, and some do resort to end their misery by taking their precious lives.

After His very short prayer, our Lord Jesus Christ continued to speak to the crowds and said, Come to me all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke and put it on you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit; and you will find rest. For the yoke I will give you is easy and my load I will put on you is light (Mt. 11:28-30).

Jesus is especially delighted of those who seek Him. He invites each one of us

to ask for His help, His assistance, guidance and support.

People who carry heavy burdens would include the jobless, the laborers, those who have large families to support and can hardly make both ends meet. People who are sick from birth or childhood or are disabled, who have met accidents, or persons abandoned by their families, or persons with no families to rely on, o r families with a member who is

addicted to drugs, alcohol and cigarettes, and those who are differently abled,

or are convicted criminals languishing in prison, and persons who have less in

life, down-trodden and victims of injustices.Presently, I do feel that many people take God for granted, and perhaps

some of the reasons can be any of the following: parents fail to teach and mold their children in the Christian way of life; no

catechetical teachings in schools, or, in some cases,

these are lacking; God is not

    The Pastor Speaks...

    ANG IKA-SIYAM NGA SUGO

    Evelyn B. Nervato

After 3 years that our Cathedral has been restored, we are again embarking on a new project Parish Convent Retrofitting and Repair!

There was a plan before to build a new convent but the administration headed by Msgr. Higinio Velarde has decided to only retrofit and repair the convent. This is to preserve the historical value of the building which was built by no less than His Eminence Cardinal Sin. (What a divine coincidence that Msgr. Gene, the one spearheading our project right now, was the secretary of Cardinal Sin before!)

The inauguration of our temporary parish office at Pius XII Institute already signals that Convent Retrofitting and Repair Project will happen soon.

What do you think about this project? What is your opinion or perception? What do you feel about this endeavor?

The replies to these questions are so important for us especially for our parish priest. Thus, for the next issues of our Candle Light, we would like to make a column which will cater to your ideas, insights, opinions, perception and feelings about this project. We gladly welcome your contribution.

Nangin madinalag-on kag masinadyahon ang adlaw sang Magagmay nga Kristiyanong Katilingban (MKK Day) nga ginhiwat sang June 21, 2014, Sabado nga adlaw. Ronald de Leon, kaupod si Pol Gregorio kag sang Music Ministry of Our Lady of Candles Prayer Community, Youth Band kag mga pamatan-on sang Jaro Parish Youth Ministry. Iya ginpanugyan nga indi gid kita dapat mag-untat. Indi gid pagpabay-an ang pagpangamuyo bilang isa ka komunidad. Bisan diutay lang ang nagaupod dapat padayunon, indi pag-untatan ukon pabay-an, agud may kahigayunan nga makatililipon liwat.Pareho man sa tanan nga komunidad, may mga tion man nga naga-abot ang problema, pero wala sang lugar ang pagsurrender. Dapat padayunon kag pabakuron pa gid ang pagtuo. Manghagad pa gid sang iban agud sila man makabati

sang Pulong sang Dios, kag makarealisar sang pagpalangga sang Ginoo. Ang ika-duha nga nanay nga nagpaambit sang iya eksperiensya nagpabutyag nga wala man sia nadulaan sang pagla-om.

    PSAM(Parish Social Action Ministry)

For the meantime, I would like to share with you some opinions which I have gathered when I celebrated Holy Mass last Friday at Sitio Langka, Brgy. Benedicto.

So, maayo gid ang ini nga proyekto. (Sophia Lopez)

Pasalamat man kami nga ara si Msgr. Gene nga nagapatigayon sang sini nga proyekto agud magnami ang convent. Kay kon nami, ginadayaw ka man. Kita mo bantog ang aton Simbahan. So, kon nami ang Simbahan, maayo man nga panamion ta ang aton convento. (Angelica Bayas)

These are just some of the comments of the parishioners. I know there are a lot more out there. So, why dont you express yourself. Email us at [email protected] or text us on this number, 09088751280. This is your chance to contribute for this project is not just of the priests but OURS!

Joenick Territorio sang Catechetical

Ministry. Agud magmangin mahapos sa mga katekista, may ginpreparar nga mga modules kag pagsulundan nga dapat nila tun-an.Amo ini nga mga topiko ang igatudlo sa mga kabataan: First Session kag

    Second Session-Ang Simbahan sang Dios I kag II (Gintawag kita nga Panimalay sang Dios);

    Third Session kag Fourth Session - Pangamuyo bilang Panimalay sang Dios (Simbahan) I kag II; Fifth Session - Pangamuyo bilang Panimalay sang Dios (Simbahan) III;

Sixth kag Seventh Session - Paglibot sa Balay sang Dios; Eighth Session - Ang Pagtuga sang Dios sang kalibutan; Ninth Session kag Tenth Session - Ginta-aw sang Dios ang Iya Gintuga kag Nanami-an gid Sia; Eleventh Session - Ang Dios Nagtugyan sang Hardin nga Tatapon sang Tawo; kag ang katapusan nga Twelfth Session: Ano ang Sala? Junior/Young Catechists gikan sa nagkalain-lain nga kabarangayan sang parokya naghiwat sang paghinun-anon upod kay Fr. Nathaniel G. Gentizon. Ang iban sa Barangay Tabuc Suba-Ilaya held a Youth Fellowship to revitalize their Brgy. Youth Ministry.

For this event, we were given a schedule which will take us only five days to prepare. We prepared an invitation for the June 28 Youth Fellowship open to Singles, ages 13-39 years old, and posted it in the designated areas of our barangay. After that we prepared a program for the big day.

At this point, WESFY wishes to ensure proper decorum for the incoming members. We requested them to fill up the membership forms and screened them by raising questions about their religious life and where they think they are fit to serve. Minors were required to secure parental consent from their parents. We also notified all the parents that they will be

Para sa amon, ang birtud sang pagpasensya kag dedikasyon bilang lamharon nga katekista indi lamang isa ka obligasyon kundi isa ka pagpahayag sang paghigugma sang Mahal nga Dios kay ini nabatyagan kag nakit-an sa informed of all the youth activities to assure them of their childrens safety.God sent us thirty young people from our community. We prepared specialized name tags for them and welcomed them warmly. The para liturgy started at 2:30 in the afternoon with an opening prayer and praise to Jesus through our Praise and Worship Songs.

Ms. Julie Ann Blancaflor, JPYM Youth Coordinator gave the orientation. Then they were formed into groups to get acquainted with one another and to share I want to follow Jesus because .... They were ask to complete the sentence. Fr. Nathaniel G. Gentizon spoke words of encouragement to all the youth and serenaded them all with the song IKAW LAMANG from the TV series of the same title. Before he left, he challenged us by saying, The Youth has a huge responsibility towards fellow youth, with people in the community especially in the work

Calubihan, Brgy. Desamparados, Brgy. Democracia (Main Kag Sitio Lunok), Brgy. San Roque, Brgy. Benedicto (Main kag Washington), kag ang Tabuc Suba Proper, Taft North (Main), Fajardo, Brgy. Bakhaw (old, new kag Kanipaan).

Lakip diri, amon ginkilala

ang amon Core Values nga apat man ka F: Fundamentals of Catholic Faith, Friendship, Faithfulness, and Food for the Soul. Jonesa P. Baaresof evangelization.

The afternoon was so fulfilling. We received Gods grace as we enjoyed the snacks prepared for us by our sponsors. And as we take the path of spiritual growth through the series of formations, with great conviction, we say our YES.

We will accept the challenge and be the youth who follow Jesus... No turning backNo turning back. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!!

    Ma. Lourdes Alquisada

Sadtong una madamo sing panimad-on ang mga tigulang.

(Mt. 11:28-30)Matuod gid man nga nagamag-an ang mabug-at nga palas-anon kon ini isalig mo sing bug-os sa Iya. Let us acknowledge our nothingness.

Pamangkot1. Ano bala ang akon ginapas-

an sa akon kabuhi?2.

mapainuboson sing tagipusuon, kag makapahuway kamo. 30Ang akon gota mahapos, kag ang akon karga mamag-an.

July 2, 2014.Around the world, the Catholic Church probably faces the greatest hurdles in North Korea. Any remaining Christians must hide their faith. They are persecuted since the end of World War II, although it was not always the case.

In 1945, at the start of the division of the two Koreas, Pyongyang was known as the Jerusalem of East Asia. Some 50,000 Catholics lived there.

Since then, the situation has changed dramatically. Today, North Korea enforces an absolute cult following around the ruling Kim family, which has been power since the 1940s.

Any other religion is excluded. Its believed that there are about 10,000 Catholics living in the country still. But the majority are elderly.

According to reports, a quarter of the Christians that stayed were detained and placed in labor camps, living in subhuman conditions and even tortured. All others were forced to flee or hide their

faith to avoid persecution. Some North Korean refugees tell us that elderly woman would sit in a circle at night and count beans, as a way to recite the Rosary.

Aid to the Church in Need, which helps persecuted Christians, said the situation in North Korea is among the most severe and least known. The regimes secrecy and isolation make it difficult to get a full grasp on the reality Christians face in the Hermit Kingdom.

God should be the center of everything in our lives. For many years, I used to be one of those who had taken God for granted. I only remembered Him when I needed something which I felt I could not do or could not have. I only prayed to Him when I was in an impossibly difficult situation; in short, I only remembered

the Lord when I needed something because my problem was beyond my capacity to solve. Otherwise, it was all I, and God was just there in a remote corner of my life.

But one day, all these changed in an instant. Candle Light was instrumental in my change of outlook in life, and in my relationship with the Lord Almighty. Candle Light is my venue to a new life, a life centered on the Holy Trinity and a life entrusted to our Lord Jesus Christ.

Parish Year Book 2014Last June 23, 2014 at around 6:30 in the evening the Candle Light staff with Fr. Nathaniel G. Gentizon, Editor-in-Chief, had a meeting with regards to the finalization of the 2014 year book of the Parish.

The content of the said year book would include the different articles and photos relevant to the way of life of the Parish in relation to the Year of the Laity. Some article is already at hand, however, needs to be edited and proof read to convey the real story of the articles.

Mr. Paul Guarnes and Ricardo Fallacorina II will be in charge of the lay-outing. Some members of the Discover Panay Island (DPI) were requested for the photo shoot of the pictures needed to make the year book more captivating and informative.

A Personal Prayer for Peace

(Inspired from Chiara Lubichs Spiritual Message)

September 8, birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary, will be the date of releasing of the Parish Year Book 2014. This Year book will be our gift for our Blessed Mother.

God loves us so much that He sent His only Son into this world to save us from the clutches of sin. Since we are prone to temptations, God taught us the lesson of humility by having Jesus born in Bethle-hem with the shepherds as His first visitors.

When Jesus was at the age of twelve, His mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, brought Him with her to the Holy Temple in Jerusalem to pray. While there, Jesus went to a room where a group of Doctors of the Church were gathered and they listened to Him as He preached. Yes, He was only twelve years old then, but they accepted His ministry. He brought more people to God and God to more people.

Through His teachings and His miracles, He was able to love thousands of followers, many of whom became His disciples, and twelve of them, His apostles. They became His helpers in the field of the apostolate and many conversions, plus physical and spiritual healing, were accomplished.God saw the need to sacrifice the life of His only Son, so that the world would be saved. At the age of thirty three, Jesus was brought before Pontius Pilate, the governor of Rome, and He was condemned to death on the cross, on the summit of Calvary. Before the tragic journey to Calvary, He agonized for three hours, but before He died at three oclock in the afternoon, He lifted His eyes to heaven and said in a trembling voice: Father, forgive them, for they know not, what they do.

Despite the sufferings of Jesus, many of us, still could not resist the evils and temptations of the world. There are many stones of malice and falsehoods as we travel on the road of life.God has built another bridge of life, very visible anytime, anywhere. This bridge is the Divine Mercy, His sacred blood and water flows incessantly from His Heart and heals whatever disturbances we have. Temptations are numerous and troublesome. They even come when they are least expected. Let us pray to Him to keep us safe spiritually wherever we may be. Let us be His disciples, follow His path, listen to Him and follow His teachings.

God wants us to be close to Him, to pray to Him and to trust Him. No matter how strong and intelligent we are, we need Gods touch to make us real Christians. This morning, I was touched when I met two women, both of them were old, going from house to house, campaigning for the devotion to God. They were giving leaflets containing Gods picture and prayers to Him. I was touched by their loyalty to the Most High and I hope that many would do the same. If only we could turn away from vices and crimes, if only we could bathe ourselves with the Blood and Water from Jesus, if only we could make our homes, our schools, our offices, our business establishments, the source of Divine Mercy, how wonderful this world would be.

Do you see and feel His Blood and Water dripping on you now?

Lord, please help me, make Peace within myself first of all, that I may bring this

    Peace to my neighbor.

To bring only and always Peace into peoples hearts, so as to bring only and always God, love and joy.Help me dominate myself to be all of God in every present moment.

To acknowledge that impulsiveness and impetuosity such as anxiety, urgency and agitation do not have anything to do with

ardor and generosity. On the contrary, they are the death of inner peace, charity and happiness. To avoid acting on my first instinct and

impulse even if the motive that pushes me seems good, just and pure.

To be careful not to hurt and offend, rather to act and speak with gentleness and

    sincerity.

To be the first to smile, to greet the others, for all of these actions bring peace.

To remember that what matters first and foremost is to listen, appreciate and understand the person next to me.Never judge nor be suspicious of others,

instead to pardon, forgive, justify understand and trust. To destroy resentment, withholding what

could divide and say only the positive.

To bring this Light so that it may help establish mutual understanding, reciprocal

    love and unity.

And finally to make Peace my real way of loving God now in every present moment.

    Amen.
