• Lower delivery costs
by up to 90%
• Improved safety
versus current boat
deliveries
• Superior speed of
delivery compared
to boat (10 m/s cruise
speed)
• Payload of a fully-
fledged aircraft with
pilots secure on the
ground
• Extend length of
operation compared to
conventional aircraft
• First flying High Altitude

Industry partnership for success
Airbus DS Airborne Solutions (ADAS) and Israel Aerospace Industries
(IAI) partnered to deliver 200 hours of Heron RPAS service to FRONTEX
Civilian airspace, civilian flight rules, series of flights, each consisting
of an average of 14 hours
Electro-optical payload for day and infrared payload for night-time vision,
a maritime patrol radar and automatic identification system

MAIN AIMS
The Aeagan Sea / Operation POSEIDON (Greece)
Lack of feasibility for a lengthy
manned aircraft patrol
Danger of manned night time operations
(increased difficulty for manned flight)
Armed criminals pose a serious
danger to flight crew
Identification of
people smugglers Border control
Spotting illegal
fishing Search and rescue
Detection of
maritime pollution Seizure of weapons
Registration and
identification
Collecting
intelligence about
criminal network
Detection of
fraudulent
documents
Seizure of drugs
Support in
readmission
The benefits of using UAS

Unmanned (Hero)n from above
Leveraging UAS strengths to strengthen the operation and protect lives
EXTENDING MISSION ENDURANCE
• On average, each take off resulted in 14
flight hours - superior to any other platform
DAY OR NIGHT, THE HERON DOESN’T MIND
• Piloted from a safe location, flies
autonomously to where it needs to be
• See clearly at night with the capability
to fly IR payload
CREW SAFETY
• Approach and identify threat with the
crew kilometres away in a safe location
STRATEGIC ASSET MANAGEMENT
• Deploy manned assets to where they really
need to be, send in the right unit for the job
Providing service in a busy civilian airspace
Turning challenges into proof that UAS can provide a great service for the customer
Mission Challenges
09 October 2019 Civil RPAS Solutions for Maritime Security 20
Permission to fly
Civil registration
Airspace integration
Navigating demanding topography
Integration into POSEIDON
mission planning
Proven feasibility of UAS operations
Operational capability is already a thing of today
Conclusion
09 October 2019 Civil RPAS Solutions for Maritime Security 21
The value of industry coming to work together
UAS can be integrated within civilian airspace
