The decaying body of Anelisa Dulaze-whowentmissing after celebrating her21st birthday in January-was found

buried under a half-built shack in Makhazaon Monday.Anelisa went missing after going out with

friends to a tavern in Town Two to finish offher celebration.A 23 year old suspect believed to be Aneli-

sa’s ex-boyfriend briefly appeared at theKhayelitsha Magistrates Court and will re-appear on May 17.In February, City Vision published a story

about her disappearance and subsequentlythree weeks ago, Makhaza residents, theANC Women’s League and Litha Labantumembers marched to Khayelitsha SAPS sta-tion to demand that the cops intensify thesearch for the missing girl.Lieutenant-Colonel Andre Traut said:

“The initial investigation into the reportfiled soon after her disappearance revealedthe possibility of foul play and the case waschanged to murder.“The investigation into the disappearance

of the woman last seen at a tavern in Linge-lethu West led to the arrest of a 23-year-oldsuspect.”

Thevictim’s distraughtmother, VathiswaDulaze,42, said the discovery of her daugh-ter’s remains was a traumatic experience.Anelisa’s uncle Ndodomzi Dulaze said:

“We are devastated by the whole ordeal,starting from when she went missing up toher body being found. We all hoped to seeher alive again.”Vathiswa said: “Shewas taken fromus too

soon. My heart is bleeding. We don’t knowthe cause of her death but at least we haveher body. I hopemy daughter’s soul will restin peace.”

The Social Justice Coalition (SJC) hascondemned the killing of women in the area.

SJC spokesman Chumile Sali said theywould picket outside the court when the sus-pect appears again.“We want to send a straight and harsh

message to the criminals,” said Sali.He said Anelisa was the fourth woman to

die in similar circumstances in Khayelitshajust under a period of 10 months.“Recently Sinoxolo Mafevuka was killed

in a cruel manner , Anovuyo Ndamase andBongiwe Nini also suffered similar tragicends.We hope justice will be done in all these

case. Enough is enough, these senseless kill-ings must come to an end ” he said,

telling the world how we had it so bad,and that when we are free, all that willbe a thing of the past.We used to tell them how we are

discriminated against. And we used tohave photos to show them that. And theworld would shake their heads and say,“For sure, you are having it bad.” And 22years later, what say you? We all haveour own experiences.My experience is that discrimination

still exists. If you want something,nobody is going to help you, especially ifyou are not known. Or, you are not amember of the ANC. You’ve got to be acomrade!Did we fight for that? Did we say only

comrades would be given opportunities? Ido not remember. But this seems to bethe case. And you ask, why? Shortsight-edness. Our leaders are not visionaries.They seem to lack the whole picture.

They can’t see where we are going. As ablack man, I’ve come to this conclusion:freedom is regressive. What do I mean bythat? I mean instead of going forward, weare going backwards.Shall we ever enter our paradise? Do

Uhuru. “Why are them schools lookinglike hovels?” I find myself asking. Somesmell urine in corridors. Windows aresmashed. Internal walls look gloomy.Kids look like tsotsis. Innocence gone.

What is happening? And you reckon;these are our future leaders. What kindof a country will they lead? Probably afailed state. Why? Because we are apotential failed state ourselves.You know what I mean? We don’t care.

We care for ourselves, but not others.Apartheid did not care for black people.It cared for whites. And this is what ishappening. Only a few are enjoying.

Kill your kidswith love onlyEvery child needs and deserves parentallove.Love is a critical and fundamental as-

pect of human development. It is so amaz-ing it can turn the world around.It is natural to yearn for love. To love

and be loved.This longing probably says a lot about

our creator as human beings, just thethought that hit my mind.I am not going to attempt to define love,

as in my view, it is a generic concept thatcan be defined or seem to be interpretedin different perspectives. It is quite a per-sonal thing. What means love to youmight mean something totally differentto somebody else. So I will leave it to youto make your own judgments of what itis to you and for you.Having argued that love is critically

grew up without their parents in SouthAfrica? Even in your own community forthat matter. You will agree with me thatthere are so many without their biologi-cal parents. It is either parents are not to-gether anymore ‘broken relationships’ orthey deceased etc.One of my observations is that more

and more grandparents are raising chil-dren of their sons and daughters especial-ly in our African communities. Obvious-ly there are many factors contributing tothis - what is called ‘up-sent parenthood’.In other cases youwill get children livingwith their biological parents but have notbeen given or shown love and supportthey deserve ‘parents are there but notthere’ so to say.In previous years I had an opportunity

to work with so called “street-children”in Cape Town. As I engaged, getting toknow them better through visiting themon the street andhave conversationswiththem. It appeared that, most of them end-ed up on the street because of ‘lack of pa-rental love, care and support’ some wereabused by step parents, even by their ownbiological parents due to various causes.Quite frankly, to love, to care and to

support your child does not cost much.It’s not always about money. In fact, theeconomic aspect should be the ‘after lay-er’ kind of a thing. What is fundamentalis that parental loveandcare for children.Young people in general are clever hu-man beings, not that adults are not.Young people can see if parents are strug-gling economically, but what becomesmore important to them is to see that ‘pa-rental love, care and support’ in the mistof any impoverish circumstances. Alltheyneed is your love and careBazali, therest comes after.Recently, I watched a documentary on

TV. A story of a young many who grewup without his biological parents. Hisgrandmother took him from his mother,apparently she was still very young 17years old. So as a family they decided thatshe cannot be able to look after him dueto her age. When he got older his motherpassed away.What he sharedwas that, henever experienced his mother’s love. Inever gotwhat happened to his father. Heresorted to drugs and other substances ascoping mechanisms to his situation.Whatwas profound as Iwas listing to him- He needed his mother’s love. He neededto bond with his mother. Unfortunatelyhe never got that chance.His story got me thinking about what

we call “Amapharaphara” a kasi term,which refer to young people mostlymales, who rob people’s belongings andmoney to buy substances such as Tik,dagga and food etc. Do we exactly knowwhy they do what they do, their drivingforces? Or we just assume the worse ofthem?

How many of us ever bothered to seatwith them as human beings and have de-cent conversations and listen to theirdeepest stories. You will be surprised ofwhat youmight hear if you take a chanceto get to know them in amoremeaningfuland intentional way.I want to argue that, the issue of “Ama-

pharaphara” is mostly the symptom ofwhat is being argued here ‘lack of paren-tal love, care and support’. It is crucial tolisten to someone, to get to the root causeof why the person is doing what he is sheis doing, before clouding it with any judg-ments.As the community we have isolated

these young people. We even labelledthem “Amapharaphara”. They are ourbrothers and sisters, probably reactingon what they never experienced ‘love,care and support’. These are my generalobservations, which you might relate ormight get you thinking at least.There is another TV programme,

which I enjoy watching ‘Khumbulekha-ya’ on SABC 1which plays everyWednes-day at 21h:00. Most stories played therehave to do with reuniting disconnectedfamily members. The most fundamentalthing from this TV programme is that itconnects loved ones who have discon-nected for a long time due to various rea-sons. For almost all its series, key thingthat keeps on coming in almost every sto-ry of individuals, is the desire for paren-tal love, which have been argued here.In conclusion, parents, young or old.

Love, care and support your childrenfrom day one. Your love that you need toshow for them is critical important andfundamental for their own holistic devel-opment. When a child is loved, cared forand supported, chances are that childwillgain self-esteem or confidence that willhelphimorher in the future. Somepeoplestruggle with the issue of self-esteem, notbecause theyarenot good lookingorwhatso ever, but simple because it was neverinfused to them by their parents.Young people please do not get preg-

nant at a younger age. The damaged canbe huge than you can imagine. In your ev-eryday actions and decisions. You mustthink long term. How will this affect myfuture and the future of my children? Iknow when we young and energetic wecan be very naïve and say to ourselves“we just experiencing things” well thesame things you experiencing might bethe pains of your life.Ifwedreamof a great nation,with great

leaders, skilled citizens and sound fami-lies. It begins with you! We need to Investlove care and support in our children, be-fore some“bunchof strangers”do that forus.Remember our African proverb ‘It

takes a whole village to raise a child’ letus unite, in loving, caring and supportingour children for a brighter future. So thatindeed, we can have a society that haveno “Orphans, no street-children” ganger-sterim and so on. A society that lives bythe concept of Ubuntu ‘Umntu ngumntungabantu’ I am because you are.Love your child and your neighbour’s

School in Khayelitsha cannot be namedto protect his family.He was allegedly stabbed multiple

times enroute to school.Jessica Shelver, spokesperson for Deb-

bie Schafer, MEC for Education, said thelearner was allegedly stabbed by a com-munity member outside the premises ofthe school shortly after 8am.She said the victim was brought to the

admin block by other learners and theambulance rushed him to hospital formedical assistance.She also said the police also rushed to

the school.“TheWCED is always concerned about

any violence affecting our learners – beit inside the school premises or outside.This kind of activity around our schoolsis completely unacceptable.The WCED are working together with

our various stakeholders, including Safe

Schools, to improve the safety of learnersand educators affected by gang violence.Learners are encouraged to use the SafeSchools call centre to report violence orabuse,” Shelver said.She also said many of these incidences

take place off school premises and thatthey require the assistance of law en-forcement agencies such as the SAPS; aswell as the support of parents and thecommunity who need to encourage theirchildren to refrain from violence and an-ti-social behaviour.“The WCED cannot take sole responsi-

bility for incidents that occur off schoolpremises. We will continue to engagewith the SAPS when it comes to steppingup law enforcement around our schools,”she added.A reliable source at the school who

wished to remain anonymous said therewas “chaos” on Tuesday morning whenwe called her and that she was not sureif classes were going to take place.Shelver also said a school psychologist

was sent to offer assistance and supporton Monday.Police could not be reached for com-

ment.

A policeman has been arrested in connec-tionwith a cash-in-transit heist committedin Kraaifontein in Tuesday night, theHawks said on Wednesday.The suspects held the guards at gunpoint

in Wabrug Road and stole an undisclosedamount of cash before fleeing the scene,spokesperson Lieutenant Lloyd Ramovhasaid in a statement. Investigations into therobbery led to the arrest of a 33-year-old po-lice constable at his residence in Khayelit-sha. One bag containing cash was recov-ered. The policeman was stationed at theNyanga police station and allegedly usedan official vehicle in the heist. The five oth-er robberswere still at large. The constablewas expected to appear in the Kuils RiverMagistrate’s Court on Friday.

Residents in stand-off with CityTHEMBELA NTONGANA

Khayelitsha residents were locked in astand-off for several hours with cityauthorities today at the civic centre

after amarch tohand in 3,000 budget submis-sions.

The residents had marched to the civiccentre to hand their submissions for the2016-17 budget. The draft was tabled on 31March.

The Social Justice Coalition (SJC), whichwaspart of themarch, alsohanded in its ownsubmission, recommending among otherthings that Mayor Patricia de Lille allocatemoney in the budget for long- term sanita-tion infrastructure in CT section, Enkanini,TR section and RR section.

Residents waited in front of the civic cen-tre waiting for city officials to accept theirsubmissions. Some sat on symbolic toilets tohighlight their daily difficulties with sanita-tion. One woman pretended to be using thetoilet holding a door that couldn’t close prop-erly.

Several boxes of neatly packed envelopeswere handed to the Manager of the MayoralSpecial Projects and Community Engage-ment for the office of theMayor,Wilfred Sol-omons-Johannes, who accepted the submis-sions but refused to address the residents.

At the request of an SJCmember he typeda letter acknowledging the submissions butsuggesting they all came from the SJC. Resi-dents insisted he change the letter to ac-knowledge that the submissions came fromthem, saying they would wait outside thecivic centre until he did so.Later in the afternoon the residents left,

saying they would write to the Mayor to askfor the letter to be rectified.The SJC called on the City to publish a

timeline for implementing sanitation in in-formal settlements and for upgrading of thesettlements.

According to SJC, the City propose tospend only R15 million for 204 informal set-tlements in 2016, down from R20 million in

2014 and R18 million in 2015.The SJC’s Axolile Notywala said last year

residents had handed in 502 budget submis-sions but these had been ignored by theCity.Marchers said their last year their sub-

City of Cape Town while 124 submissionswhich came from other places in Cape townall received acknowledgement and receivedindividual responses. We are asking theMayor to listen to these residents and makesure that the unfair budget of the City ofCape Town is changed.”Notywala said 21% of households in Cape

Town received only 1% of the City’s waterand sanitation budget.“The budget is unfair and unjust,” he said.He said chemical toilets were nine times

as expensive as fully flush toilets, and theCitywaswastingmoney. The SJChad calcu-lated that chemical toilets cost R237 254 toprovide and portable toilets R65 964, whilea fully flush toilet cost R27 746.“They need to start treating informal set-

tlements as permanent,” said Notywala.Khayelitsha resident Nosakhele Mhlomi,

whohas lived in SST informal settlement for23 years and who handed in a submission,says the City doesn’t care about residents’living conditions.Mhlomi looks after seven disabled chil-

dren.“We are given portable toilets and chemi-

cal toilets which are very difficult to use.“There aremany families using one toilet.

They are dirty and small.We want fully flush toilets, enough for all

the residents.”Site C resident Nobathembu Seplani also

handed in a submission.“For how longmust black poor people live

like this? We are asking for proper toilets.These toilets smell and are not clean.“I have had enough of using portable toi-

lets. As an adult it is a disgrace to still usethose,” said Seplani. - Ground Up

packed to the brim with small children,young adults and even the elderly, and thistime around screams of happiness echoedeverywhere, instead of cries of distress fromvictims of crime.They were part of the ward 95 sports day

event which was organised by the localcouncillors committee, Sanco,Harare policeforum and the City.According to organiser Andiswa Ngcani

the plan was to take back the deserted fieldand make it accessible for positive activi-ties.“This area is usually a no go area as the

local gangs wage wars(here) and they battleit out on this land. Mob attacks have alsoseen people being burnt alive at this placeduring the vigilante outbreaks. One of thereasons that these bad things happen here

is that this place is not used by the communi-ty so that is why we have decided that weare going to use it for sports and communityevents,” said Ngcani.She said that the event was designed to be

an all day affair where the children will beable to participate to lure them away fromcrime and drug abuse.“In this community we have a problem

with gangs, drugs and alcohol abuse amongothers. So buy staging such an event on theholidays such as May Day because the chil-dren will be home and easily accessible to

bad elements.” Said Ngcani.Local police forum chairperson, Ronnie

Busakwe, said that such programmeswherecrucial in the fight against crime in the area.“It is through such events where we can

gather the children and the public and in-form them about crime fighting tips.We need to be visible in the community to

make sure they see thework done to encoun-ter the rampant crime in our areas,” saidBusakwe.He said the forum had lined up a number

of programmes to address crime in the area.

The Department of Education has has re-vealed a kit for Grade Rss as an interven-tion to change the low levels of reading cul-ture. The kit was handed-over to Masiphu-melele Primary School in Khayelitsha lastFriday.Angie Motshekga, the Minister of Basic

Education, was there, together with GrowLearning Company, an early learningfirm, and the Western Cape Education De-partmenMotshekga said the Early Childhood De-

velopment (ECD) is one of the focus areasfor the department to ensure that the quali-ty of education is improved.“Only five percent of South Africans are

advanced readers. 85 percent are non read-ers. We have a major problem as the coun-try. The reading culture is completely toolow. The quality of programs that we haveis also a major problem. We also have aproblem of under qualified teachers,” shesaid.Motshekga also said all the evaluation

reportsmade recently are showing thatherdepartment is facing “problems” and thatthey are in the process of changing that.She and the childrenmade their own sto-

ries based on the pictures they saw on theequipment during the event.The Read to Lead campaign, which is a

nationwide public effort to instill reading,was launched in July 2015 by the depart-ment and it will run until 2019.The interactive reading kits are bags

with clear PVC pockets that can hang onclassroom wall, and have early childhooddevelopment tools and aids to make read-ing interactive and fun.Each card has six Grade R picture story

Simphiwe has gift of fine artMBONGISENI MASEKO

A gifted youngster from Khayelitsha is de-termined to make waves in the fine arts in-dustry with his works.SimphiweKaka,25, the founder of Simplex

Fine Art Studios, draws a structure of an in-dividual and gives an end product which issimilar to the photo that he has been refer-ring from.He described art as something that he was

born in as his father JohnsonKaka, was alsoan artist.Kaka first put his talent into test in 2003

when he was a learner at Auckland HighSchool.His outstanding talent then won him a

bursary to study at Frank Joubert Art Cen-tre, in Newlands from Grade 9 to Grade 12.He was doing photography and fine art.“Iwas thebest student there.When I draw,

I do not feel like I am working. I can do it24 hours a day. I create something very closeto perfection,” Kaka said.He then left art after matric and studied

Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) at the Uni-versity ofWesternCape (UWC), buthedecid-ed to drop-out in his third year, in 2010.In 2011 he left for Abu Dhabi, where he

worked as a sales executive for Air Purifica-tion Systems, where he worked for aboutthree years.He came back to the country where he

worked for Sanlam as financial advisor andhe also quit the job.“I felt that there was a missing link in my

life. The response that I am getting for myart is amazing,” he added.He has since created a platform for eight

other aspiring young artists from Khayelit-sha, Nyanga, Philippi and one in Pretoriawhere they fine tune their talent.He said they try by all means to “escape

controversy” which sees other artists draw-ing art that met with critics.“My prices for the art are reasonable. I

love drawing childrenmore especially. I useboth pencil and charcoal for my drawings,”he said.He uses social network such as Facebook

to get his business going.He also showcases some of his work on

Saturday, 23 April wasWorld Book Day.The day is organised annually by the

United Nation Education, Scientificand Cultural Organisation(UNESCO). Theinaugural celebration of this day was on the23rd of April 1995 and its objective was topromote books, reading, publishing andcopyright.For the 2016 instalment of the celebra-

tions, the team at Kuyasa Public Librarywhich is led by Principal Librarian MsThandiweMtshengu hosted a tantalising lit-erary event which featured big names suchas Mam’ Sindiwe Magona, Niq Mhlongo, lo-cal authors N. DRuneyi and SiphoKekezwaon Friday the 22 of April 2016. They orga-nised this in conjunction with Open Bookand Lingua Franca, local organisations thatpromote literacy and poetry respectively.Magona was billed to do story-telling and

reading for young children in the morning.In a true Makhulu Magona style, she capti-vated her audience.Children from surrounding schools and

early childhood development centres ap-peared jovial and enjoyed the story tellingsessions.Magona encouraged the children to get li-

brary cards and take books home to read.

She also offered toworkshop the children’sgrandmothers on how to write children’sstories.In the afternoonNiqMhlongo gave an in-

spirational talk about reading andwriting.He started by sharing his life story as ayoungster growing up in Soweto. He alsoshared his struggles about getting pub-lished in South Africa.He said his first book Dog Eat Dog was

rejected fifteen times by publishers beforebeing published. He also urged would-bewriters to persevere when trying to gettheir work published. Mhlongo said thefirst rule to being a writer is to read a lot.Also on offer in the late afternoon was a

poetry workshop facilitated by MbongeniNomkonwana of Lingua Franca. This wasfollowed by an openmic sessionwhich sentpoetry lovers snapping their fingers infrenzy.A lookof satisfactionwaswrittenall over

Ms Mtshengu as the event concluded.Beaming with satisfaction, she said “it isa beginning of good things to come forKhayelitsha and surrounding areas. It is away toopenup this library to the communi-ty and encourage reading.Our partnership with schools, ECD cen-

ters, senior’s, OpenBook andLinguaFran-ca has resulted to the success of today.”

Of the land, the Charter,race and class dominationNot many people know that the Free-dom Charter was drafted by Whiteliberals of the Communist Party ofSouth Africa.It is a sell-out document to the

African people because its betrays thestruggle of the indigenous people by theANC leaders.Since April 1958, there exist two

congresses, each claiming to be thedirect heir and legitimate successor tothe original congress which was foundedin 1912 and which styled itself the SouthAfrican Native National Congress.According to its January 1958 consti-

tution, the African National Congress(ANC) stands for the ‘creation of aunited democratic South Africa on theprinciples outlined in the FreedomCharter’.The Pan Africanist Congress of

Azania, according to its April 1959constitution stands for the ‘establish-ment and maintenance of an AfricanistSocialist democracy recognizing theprimacy of the material and spiritualinterest of the individual’.For convenience’s sake, the use of the

key word from these foundation docu-ments will be adopted to describe thenew and old congress.Unless it is glaringly inconsistent with

the context, the African NationalCongress will be referred to as theCharterist Congress, its adherents as thecharterists, and its policy programmeand philosophic outlook as Charterist.The Pan Africanist Congress of Azaniawill be designated the Africanist Con-gress, its member the Africanists and itspolicy, programme and philosophicaloutlook as Africanism.The Native Congress died formal

death in December, 1943, when itsconstitution was scrapped.That lengthy constitution was its

manifesto, and it spoke of the Nativepeople. The manifestoes of its successor,the African Congress, were the 1943African Claims and the 1949 Programmeof Action.These spoke of and for the African

people. It died in 1953, with the birth ofthe (multi-racial) Congress Alliance, andwas finally buried in December 1957,with the incorporation of the Charterinto its new constitution.The manifesto of the Charterist

Congress, The Kliptown Charter of 1955,speak of and for the ‘people of SouthAfrica, Black and white together’.The Africanist Congress, in the 1959

Pan Africanist manifesto, speaks of andfor the African people’ who it regards as‘part of one African Nations’.

elitsha, and if she is to be crowned the“Queen of Cape Town”, she needs allthe votes she can get, and is appeal-ing fro support from readers of CityVision and beyond.

It is a charity event and contest-ants only win by the number of votesthey garner from supporters.The competition finals will be held

in Worcester next Saturday.Pelly started her journey as a beau-

ty contestant by default, after shewas chosen by monitors to take partin a competition for Miss Centre ofScience and Technology (Cosat) pag-eant in Grade 10 in 2011.

She finished in the top 5 overall.The bug bit. For soon after she en-

tered for the Miss Khayelitsha Teenin the same year. She lost.

“I was discouraged after that com-petition, because I do not take losingwell. I then decided to take a breakfrom other competitions,” she said.

The second year Bachelor of Lawsdegree student at the University ofWestern Cape, then revived her pas-sion when she entered for the MissFresher at the university in 2015.

She failed to make the top five,however, this time she decided to en-ter for the Miss Harare competitionandmade the top 10 list last year. Notbad, she thought.Pelly then competed for the title of

Miss Buyelembo where she finishedin the top five.

In 2015, she felt very confident and

entered the Miss Khayelitsha pag-eant. Although things did not goaccording to her plan, she has sether sights on big tiaras, as it were.“I was aiming for the title of

Miss Khayelitsha, but it did not goaccording to my plan. The compe-tition was tough,” she added.Her never-say-die attitude has

paid off, though, for she wascrowned Miss Valentine Khayelit-sha in February this year.

“I was so angry when I arrivedfor the competition to find thatYandiswa Gxwala was also takingpart in the competition. She is myrole model and she is so good thatI did not think I was standing anychance against her. To my sur-prise, I was crowned Miss Valen-tine.

I lost a number of competitions,but I told myself that I was not go-ing to give-up hope. I kept on look-ing for motivation. I want peopleto know that you can learn some-thing from losing and that theymust keep pushing ahead even ifit means falling at times,” she add-ed.

She said winning the title ofMiss Cape Town would help herfulfil her dream of helping chil-dren from disadvantaged back-ground.

Talented young cricket stars are quicklybeing identified in Khayelitsha schoolsfollowing the creation of comprehen-

sive cricketing ecosystems by the Gary Kir-sten Foundation last year.In a drive to provide gifted individuals

from disadvantaged backgrounds with thetools to develop their sporting skills, theGary Kirsten Foundation initiated theTownship Cricket Net Installation project.Learners from Chris Hani Secondary

School, Siphamandla Secondary School andImpendulo Primary School are benefittingfrom the holistic initiative whereby eachschool received two quality cricket nets, acomplete cricket kit as well as a cricketcoach trained under theGaryKirsten Crick-et Academy.On a recent visit to Siphamandla Second-

ary School, Gary Kirsten immediately tooknote of one youngster who is showing in-credible talent. The talented cricketer hasbeen taking full advantage of the nets and,under the tutelage of his coach SivuyileMfu-nelwa, has developed into a competitive fastbowler. However, as is the case with manyof these learners, the youngster didn’t haveany cricket shoes and has been honing hisskill in school shoes. To remedy this,Kirstenapproached Adidas, who donated qualitycricket shoes.“We are really so grateful to Adidas for re-

sponding to this need without hesitation,”said Kirsten. “It is absolutely amazing whatcanbe achievedwhen these children are justgiven the opportunity.”Kirsten, who visits the township schools

regularly, said this project was some of themost meaningful work he has done.“I am so excited to get back to the schools

and see what new talent has emerged,” hesaid. “SouthAfrica is so alivewithpossibil-ities and the progressmade through thenetinstallation programme proves that thereare gifted sports stars everywhere, we justneed to invest in them.”A fourth school has been identified as a

recipient for the Township Cricket Net In-stallation. Sivile Primary School at Site Cin Khayelitsha will soon benefit from thisadvantageous outdoor practice facility.To ensure the sustainability of each do-

nation, the Gary Kirsten Cricket Academytrains a coach from the area who is thenprovided with a position at the school,overseeing all sporting activities, creatinga comprehensive sports’ programme andcoaching the youngsters. The coacheswork closely with both the Gary KirstenCricket Academy, as well as Gary Kirstenhimself, keeping up-to-date with all ele-ments of the cricketing arena.“Job creation, skills’ development and

general community upliftment are all keyto the success of the net installations andwe want to continue expanding this pro-gramme into as many South Africanschools as possible,” said Kirsten.Each net installation costs approximate-

ly R80 000, excluding the cost of cricketequipment and the hiring of coaches.
