I would just like to say another HUGE thank you for the care
and the great support and advice I received during my
10 day detox with you.
I can’t begin to thank you and your team for doing such a
wonderful job. It’s more than any of us dared to dream of! So
thanks, thanks and thanks again.
A big thank you to you all for helping me through
the tough times.
You have all gone above and beyond what is
expected to help my client.
In my opinion you are the best inpatient detoxification unit in London and
possibly the best in the country. You’ve always been very accommodating
and you have the perfect approach to working with substance users.
Commissioner feedback:
They have experience and expertise with working with
complex health and social care needs, balancing the residential
programme with individual need.
THE SERVICE USER JOURNEY
Referral and admissionOur experienced worker takes referrals which are assessed for
admission to the service. The referral is completed jointly between the service user and their community worker to ensure that there
is a shared understanding of the treatment expectations.
AccommodationWe provide a safe and comfortable detoxification environment
for our service users. We have 15 bedrooms, a mix of single and shared, with separate male and female floors. We have a fully
equipped kitchen, a living area, a garden and group rooms. There are stair lifts between the basement, ground and first floors.
Care planning and key-workingService users are assigned a key-worker who uses Integrative
Recovery, our care planning approach and tool. We identify and explore the service user’s strengths and ambitions, facilitating
interventions as required.
Clinical treatmentA full nursing and medical assessment is completed following
admission. We monitor specific health concerns and implement a bespoke care plan alongside support to attend appointments. The nursing team are skilled and trained in wound care, phlebotomy,
naloxone and substance misuse treatment.
Group workA wide range of health and recovery workshops are integrated into the group programme, including gender-specific groups, discharge
planning, preparing for rehab, recovery capital, healthy living, managing anxiety, self esteem, and relapse prevention.
AftercareWe support service users to prepare for their discharge from City Roads. We host daily mutual aid meetings and introduce groups
that can be attended after they’ve re-joined the community. These sessions explore how they can use local resources, find positive
ways of using their time and take up hobbies.
About City Roads City Roads is an in-patient alcohol and drug detoxification service in a safe, residential setting. We work with service users on a range of issues including substance misuse, mental health, physical health and/or varying circumstances.
Our team of experienced prescribers, nurses, social care staff and volunteers adhere to the standards set out by the Care Quality Commission and Department of Health. We provide medically supervised detoxification and stabilisation in a safe, supportive, clinical environment. City Roads provides 24-hour staff and medical cover, enabling us to support service users throughout their stay.
Our recovery approach is built upon a group work programme and one-to-one recovery coordination, using a range of interventions. There is a mixture of mandatory and optional activities in the programme and service users are encouraged to participate fully.
City Roads has excellent transport links and access to local amenities.
Day to day life at City Roads
We offer a tailored programme to each of our service users. We encourage each service user to make full use of the services available at City Roads and to engage in the program designed to support them through their medical detox, and prepare them for continuing their recovery once they have completed their stay.
Groups are small to ensure all members have a chance to contribute and engage. There is also a daily house meeting where plans for the day are made and service users can share their feelings and any concerns with the group.
We offer a range of activities designed to stimulate, entertain and support service users through the detoxification process. These include photo therapy, art, music, board games, bingo, quizzes, tai chi and walks.
A range of complementary therapies are also available, including Indian Head Massage, Reiki, Shiatsu, Reflexology and group sessions for Auricular Acupuncture and meditation/relaxation.
Service users also have the option of attending in-house support groups such as NA, CA, AA and SMART groups.
