Head to the Holmes Aquatic Center this summer!
The Holmes Aquatic Centeropens for the 2016 seasonSaturday, May 28. Thefacility features a 50-meterpool, a sprayground andchildren’s pool, a water slideand 3- and 1-meter divingboards.
New Pool Passes
• First time pool pass applicants must sign-up in person at the City’s Peek Service Center (4420 Worcola, east of North Central Expressway just off SMU Blvd.). City Hall does not sell pool passes or process IDs.
• Proof of residency is required to complete the transaction. Residency is demonstrated by a driver license AND utility bill.
Peek Service Center Office Hours Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.Friday, May 27 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. only
Renewal Passes
If you have purchased a pool pass in previous years andsimply need to renew it, the process is simple.
Online Renewal or Mail in renewal
To renew passes, log on to the City’s website atuptexas.org. From the home page, click on the Parks andRec button, then click on the “pool” tab that is located inthe left hand margin. Next, move down the page to the“renewal” section and follow the on-screen steps. If youprefer to mail in your renewal, download and complete theform, enclose a copy with your check and mail to:

• Prices are per person. The City does not offer family passes.
• Children ages five (5) and younger are free and do not need a pass.
• Fees apply to children six (6) and up and adults.

The next Park Cities recycling event willtake place at the Middle-Intermediate Schoolparking lot on Saturday, April 30 from 8a.m. to 1 p.m.
Get a jump on springcleaning and close outtax season by clearingyour garage, attic andclosets of old financialand medical documents,outdated or unused
electronics, and even clothing, furniture andappliances.
Paper products and documents that canbe disposed of include: Tax records,medical records, legal files, financialrecords, invoices, cancelled checks,blueprints, contracts, payroll records,company letterhead, junk mail containingpersonal information, and any informationthat contains credit card, social security,driver license and account numbers.
Accepted E-waste items include:computers, computermonitors, computeraccessories, TV’s,printers, DVD/CDplayers, copiers, faxmachines, scanners,cell phones andchargers, external
hard drives, video and camera equipment,video game systems, microwaves, cables,power cords, power strips and more.
Participating firms/organizations
Shred-it will collect and shred alldocuments on-site.
ECS Refining will collect and dispose ofall e-waste items. The company is one ofthe top electronics processors in thecountry, with 35 years of industryexperience.
The Salvation Armywill also be on-site.Donated items must be inworking condition, andcontain all parts andaccessories. Clothingitems must not be torn or
stained. The Salvation Army will also takeall wood furniture, refrigerators, stoves,washing machines, dryers, and anyappliances. All donors will be given areceipt for tax deduction purposes.

The City is accepting applications forthe 2016 Citizen of the Year Award.The City Council created the award toboost public awareness andappreciation for the many residentswho work, often behind the scenes, tobetter the city's quality of life. Rather
than acting out of a need for recognition, these residentsare driven by a desire to contribute to their community.Whether beautifying our neighborhoods, increasing localopportunities for our youth, or raising money for variousworthy projects, all demonstrate an exceptional level ofcitizenship.
To nominate a resident of any age, click on the Residentssection of the City's website at uptexas.org. Then click on the Citizen of the Year option. From there you cancomplete the application form and submit it online.
Nominations must be received by Wednesday, June 1,2016.
A panel of residents will select and notify the honoree theweek of June 5. Along with riding in the July 4th Parade,the honoree will be presented with a plaque and a specialCitizen of the Year gift during a brief ceremony at theGoar Park Gazebo.
Nominees for Citizen of the Year must:
• Be a University Park resident;• Have worked to improve the quality of life in
University Park.

and a dog named “the beast.” The event begins in GoarPark at 6 p.m. Showtime is 8:15 p.m.

Outdoor watering by automaticsprinkler systems is limited to twice aweek, year-round in University Park. From April 1 to October 31 the Cityprohibits the use of outdoor wateringsystems from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Residents can water at any time of the day or night, and onany day of the week, with a hand-held hose, a dripirrigation device, soaker hose or watering can.
Consistent with ordinances in many other areacommunities, outdoor watering days are determined by street address.
• Even - Residents with addresses ending in an even number can use automatic sprinklers on Sundays and Thursdays.
• Odd - Addresses ending in an odd number can use automatic sprinklers on Saturdays and Wednesdays.
• Multi-family addresses and office buildings will water using their lowest street address number.
When a Code Enforcement officer sees a wateringviolation, the homeowner is notified and asked to comply.Addresses that continue to be in violation will be mailed aformal notice. After that, a Municipal Court citation willbe issued. For more information on the City’s twice-a-week watering ordinance, go to uptexas.org/watering.
Help the City Fight the Bite
This month households across the ParkCities will receive a door hanger listingsimple steps residents can take to controlmosquitoes. The effort is centered oneliminating standing water.
To control mosquito breeding:
• Don’t over irrigate• Change water in wading pools, pet dishes and
birdbaths several times a week• Keep backyard pools clean• Keep unnecessary plant growth cut back
• Cover trash can containers so they will not collect water
• Use automatic sprinkler systems wisely• Clean or replace clogged roof gutters and downspouts
To protect yourself and family members:
• While outside during dawn and dusk hours wear long, loose and light-colored clothing
• Use insect repellents that contain DEET
Residents are urged to report standing water locations toCity staff. Dial 3-1-1, or call the Parks and RecreationDepartment at 214-987-5488. Residents can also call toarrange for a free property inspection and onsite advice on how to control mosquitoes.
Shark School swim lesson at Holmes Aquatic Center
Holmes Aquatic Center is excited toannounce our new and improved SwimLesson Program – Shark School! Five distinct levels focus on pool safetyand development of swim strokes, as wellas lake & boating safety. Additionally,we are adding a new toddler aquaticsclass focused on water play and swim
lesson readiness to help that age group prepare for swimlessons.
• Each class has at least three and no more than six students
• Each class has an instructor, and if needed, an aide• Individual sessions may be canceled due to severe
weather or unexpected pool maintenance • Make-up classes will be held on Fridays• The City of University Park guarantees each class will
have eight sessions.
