From: Sue Chaney [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, September 14, 2021 3:00 PMTo: Melissa BargarSubject: Save the trees north of Executive Blvd Dear Melissa, Thank you for your dedication to the parks of Delaware, Ohio! Government workis often difficult and not appreciated. I appreciate your service to our community. I live on Executive Boulevard and have loved the woods behind my home as havemy many neighbors. We would love to see them preserved as much as possible. Irecognize that the city does not currently own this property, but there are many ofus working on ways that the wooded land can be at least partially purchased byusing grants that are available for just such a purpose. There are obvious reasonsthat our tree canopy is important, as I am sure you are aware. One neighbor hastold me that there are trees in that woods that are a hundred years old. Trees thatlived through the Roaring 20's, the Great Depression, the Space Age, and muchmore.

We recognize that a road is needed to connect to US 23. The city is naming itMerrick Parkway. We would love to see it be not only a parkway in name but alsoin reality. Let it be a drive through a cool wooded park with trails twisting thisway and that and the ability to regroup with a visit through what Mother Naturehas provided us. Let us plan for the future by planning for the mental health ofgenerations yet to come by providing this respite from hardscaping. As a retired elementary teacher, one of my favorite books is The Giving Tree byShel Silverstein. Trees give us so much more than we give them credit for and askfor nothing in return but the opportunity to give. We cannot put a price tag on thevalue of a tree. This is a great opportunity to set aside some beautiful wooded landto feed the souls of our citizens. Let us not miss this opportunity with ourimmediate needs, but look ahead another hundred years. I would love to work with you to make this happen in the First Ward of Delaware,Ohio. People who recognize that there is more to progress than buildings. Thankyou for your consideration in this matter. Don't hesitate to let me know how I canhelp this move forward. Grace and peace,Sue Chaney883 Executive Blvd. Delaware, Ohio 43015
