this week. The Division also sent out announcements about various road closures needed for drainage pipe
installation.

ANNUAL TOUR de PALM COAST
On Saturday July 21st, as a part of the
celebration of Parks and Recreation
month, the City led the annual Tour de
Palm Coast! With 46 riders, this was the
Tour’s largest turnout in event history!
The guided scenic bike cruise began at the
new Community Center, then found the
outdoor classroom along Magnolia Trail,
and navigated over to the main park
entrance, playground and trailhead map at
Colbert Lane. From there, the “Tour”
cycled up to the northernmost point of the
Linear Park Trail at Palm Harbor Drive
where they could learn about the Panther
Sculpture donated as part of the City’s Art
in Public Places program. The crew cycled
along the western side of European Village,
funneled under Hammock Dunes Bridge,
and saw many amazing sights along the
Intracoastal Waterway. Once the Tour
made it down to the beautiful Waterfront
Park, the cyclists doubled-back to the
Community Center along the St. Joe
Walkway. Riders concluded their 6.3 mile
out-and-back route at the Community
Center with refreshments and an open
house of our newly renovated Community
Center.
“Linear Park has so much to offer, and
when we can showcase it through Tour de
Palm Coast, the elements of the park that
the community might not frequent or even
know about, have a chance to stand out. My
favorite parts of the tour were tied between
taking in the quiet moments under live oak
canopy, and seeing the dolphins fishing for
their morning breakfast in the Intracoastal!
I recommend that everyone try this event,
at least once.” –Angelica Cortes, Landscape
Architecture Intern.

Fun in the Sun Summer Camp wrapped up week 7 and started week 8. Campers enjoyed REFIT Revolution
Dance Fitness, which we are introducing as a regular program in the fall. They also took an optional field
trip to WonderWorks. Our Recreation Supervisor of Marketing created a digital version of the fall activity
guide in a magazine reader format complete with clickable links. Our Parks & Recreation Marketing intern
is finishing the second promotional video for Senior Games and it will be posted soon. Our Lunch N’ Lecture
this week was provided by our Palm Coast Fire Department’s Deputy Fire Chief and covered the important
topic of Hurricane Preparedness. Our Discover Trip took adults and seniors to Tampa for a Tampa Bay Rays
vs. New York Yankees Baseball Game.
Our July is Parks and Recreation Month celebration is finally slowing down and coming to an end. We held
our Dive-in Movies, Tour de Palm Coast, and Parks & Rec Open House this week. The Tour De Palm Coast
had its largest turnout ever and the Parks & Rec Open House was very well-received. Exhibits were set up
around the Community Center to represent the different areas of our Department. We had interactive
demonstrations including Lego Robots, Zumba, REFIT, and Self-Defense. Our last two July is Parks and
Recreation month events are the Florida Hospital Flagler Free Health Screening on July 27 and Pass Holder
Appreciation Day at Frieda Zamba Swimming Pool on July 29. Our staff spotlight videos and graphics
continued this week with our Recreation Specialist of Youth and some of his staff being highlighted.

We know what you’re thinking, how could a computer chip the size of a grain of rice make any difference in the well-being of your animal? In fact, implanting a microchip can provide the comfort of knowing your animal has a drastically higher chance of getting returned than an animal without a microchip. A microchip is essentially an implantable piece of identification, much like a dog tag or collar, however it’s much more permanent and reliable. Once an animal is found by the Flagler Humane Society (FHS) or is born under our care and old enough, veterinary technicians implant the microchip via needle, similar to the process of a vaccine. They never irritate the animal and once the process of the initial implantation is complete, they will never have to get another implanted. However, if any of your information has changed since the implantation of your pet’s microchip, you must contact your vet to update the contact information. For more information on microchipping your pet, contact FHS at 445-1814. Donation Opportunities: The Flagler Humane Society Thrift Store always accepts donations. They cannot take in any computers/printers or large appliances. Call 386-597-2839 and leave a message. Call for our new store location where we will soon be collecting donations. “General Donations” can be dropped off anytime at your convenience. FHS appreciates all donations, especially those from our Wish List (available at flaglerhumanesociety.org/wish-list). You can also purchase items via the Amazon.com link on the FHS website and ship them directly to the shelter. Outreach Adoption Events: Don’t forget that FHS have volunteers and adoptable pets at Petco, PetSmart, PetSupermarket and Tractor Supply in Palm Coast. Stop by and see our adoptable pets! Want to be a volunteer? Attend an orientation! Orientations are held at noon in the Humane Society education room every second Saturday of the month. Applications can be found on the FHS website. Interested in fostering? Contact our adoption specialist at [email protected]. Adoption Specials: Check the FHS Facebook for our adoption specials. Upcoming Fundraisers/Events: See the FHS Website for information on our upcoming events – Bow Wow Bingo and Paint your Pet! Offered Services: The Flagler Humane Society has a variety of Subsidized Spay & Neuter Programs for members of the community that need to have their pets or community pets sterilized. Please call FHS at 386-445-1814, email [email protected] for questions. FHS has a Wellness Clinic for minor veterinary issues. Call 386-445-1814 for Appointments. Low Cost Vaccination Clinics are held on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of every month from 1pm-3pm. FHS also offers a “Pet Food Pantry” for those that are in need of assistance. Please call for more information.
