Aiming for implementation of e-Oovernance on its campus, the Jamia Millia lslamiaUniversity is preparing to be the country’s first varsitywith an e-File tracking systemfor its various departments. This intranet file tracking software, developed by theFTK-Centre for Information Technology (FTK-CIT) of the university, will enableauthorised users to monitor the movement and tracking of their respective files orpapers within the university.
The newfiletracking systemwillfacilitate access offilesforthe universitystaffandexpedite the work. The newflle tracking system has been built over the existinginhouse developed Management Informahon System which is an integrateduniversity-wide enterprise resource planning system.
To ensure smooth implementation of the utility across the university, a number oftraining programmes have been conducted by FTK-CITfor users in various officesof the university.

The third quarter of the year started withthe new academic session in the Universityin which the most important act iv i tywas “admissions” to various PG/UG/Diploma/Certificate programmes. It isthus quite natural to cover in this issuethe MIS-based stat ist ics on JamiaAdmissions 2010-11 . This issue a lsoincludes information about the steps takenby the MIS group to incorporate semestersystem in the JMI-ManagementInformation System. The implementationof “e-f i le Tracking System” in Jamiareceived wide media coverage, both bythe print media as well as e-newspapersand e-magazines. A report on networkexpansion gives the detai ls about the726 new Internet nodes in variousbuildings of Jamia during July-September2010. Information about the web-relatedservices are given as a routine feature.

Courses in Jamia are becoming more popular year after year. This is evident from the
number of Application Forms for admissions to various courses received during the past
four years. A statistical data
on the number of application
forms received during these
years is displayed in the
following graph.
The graph shows that the
number of applicants seeking
admission to various courses
in 2010-11 increased by 46.3%
as compared to admissions in
2007-08.
Teaching and ResearchProgrammes
The admission process in Jamia for the
academic session 2010-11 was completed
during July- August 2010. On the basis of the
JMI-Management Information System
(MIS), a total of 232 teaching and research
programmes are currently being offered by
the Univers i ty , which include 49 Ph.D.
programmes in different disciplines and 183
teaching programmes at the postgraduate,
undergraduate , d iploma and cert i f icate
levels.

the Jamia website during the 3rd quarter of

University during the year has been 6,816. With
this, the total number of students enrolled in the
entire University as on October 6, 2010 stands
as 18,710. Out of this. there are 14,055 students
in the University sector and 4,655 in the School
sector.

JMI-MIS incorporates the Semester System
With the introduction of Semester System in postgraduate programmes in Jamia from theacademic session 2010-2011, the FTK-Centre for Information Technology carried out the task of
transforming various data in respect of 32 postgraduate programmes from the annual system to thesemester system. The data were transformed for the following features:
Entrance Application Form ( for updating students’ primary information),Course Information ( to create a new course based on Semester System),Subject Information ( to create newly introduced Subjects/Papers),Subject Paper Allocation ( to create admission slip to opt compulsory /optional subjects, accordingto new syllabus),Admission/Re-registration Form ( to maintain the history of a student),Admission Slip ( to generate course wise Admission Slip),Attendance Register ( to make corrections in the Course name and Session),Student Identity Card (for generating new Curriculum based Identity Card),Student Information ( for current status of Enrollment of students).

During July-September 2010, 726 new

Media Coverage of the e-File Tracking System
As part of the e-governance initiative in the University, the “e-File Tracking System” was
implemented in Jamia in the 2nd quarter of the year. This received wide media coverage in
