Information About Cisco Nexus Cloud Services PlatformThe Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform product family includes the Cisco Nexus 1010, Cisco Nexus 1010-X, Cisco Nexus 1110-S, and the Cisco Nexus 1110-X.

The Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform product family product family comprises networking appliances that can host from 6 up to 14 Cisco Nexus 1000V virtual service blades (VSBS) on a Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform.

The Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform product family supports VSBs like Cisco Nexus 1000V Virtual Supervisor Module (VSM), Cisco NetScalar 1000v, Network Analysis Module (NAM), Virtual Security Gateway (VSG), and Data Center Network Management Module (DCNM).

The Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform provides dedicated hardware for the VSM. From a network management perspective, the hosted VSMs appear as a cluster. Each VSM and its associated VEMs make up one virtual switch. VSMs that were hosted on VMware virtual machines can be hosted on a Cisco Nexus 1010, Cisco Nexus 1010-X, Cisco Nexus 1110-S, or Cisco Nexus 1110-X appliance. This allows you to install and manage the VSM like a standard Cisco switch. The services (VSM, VSG, DCNM, or NAM) managed by the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform product family are called virtual service blades.

Cisco Nexus 1110

This section describes the rear panel of a Cisco Nexus 1110-S and Cisco Nexus 1110-X. Figure 1-4 shows the rear panel features. See labels 2 and 3 of Figure 1-4 to distinguish between the Cisco Nexus 1110-S and Cisco Nexus 1110-X.

1 Power supply

2 10/100 Ethernet CIMC management port (RJ-45)1

Used for configuration of the Cisco Integrated Management Controller (CIMC) software only. Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform software is configured using the serial connector port (number 4). The Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform only supports Gigabit ports.

1. Although the Cisco Nexus 1010 interfaces allow 10/100/1000 Ethernet connections, the NX-OS operating system requires that the Cisco Nexus 1010 be connected to 1-Gigabit ports on the uplink switches. You cannot modify this speed setting but might need to set the speed and duplex settings on the upstream switches.

3 USB 2.0 connectors (two)

Used with the supplied thumb drive for transferring a script file.

4 Serial connector (DB9)

Used for out-of-band terminal access or serial over LAN access for Cisco Nexus 1010 and Cisco Nexus 1010-X software configuration.

Cisco Integrated Management ControllerThe Cisco Integrated Management Controller (CIMC) is a software interface included with the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform. CIMC allows you to configure serial over LAN (SoL) access and set up remote management in the event the device becomes unreachable. When installing the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform, you have the option of configuring the CIMC interface. To configure the CIMC software while installing the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform, see the “Installing a Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform with CIMC” section on page 3-1.

Chapter 1 Overview Secure Socket Layer Card

Secure Socket Layer Card

Virtual Service Blades on the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform can offload their security processing capacity to a dedicated external processor to improve their performance. Depending on their deployment models, different VSBs may require more or less processing capacity than the others on the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform.

In order to meet the security processing requirements of the VSBs, starting this release, the Cisco Nexus 1110-X, supports the Cavium Nitrox Crypto Compression card also known as the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) card, as a Field Replacement Unit (FRU) to enable the secure socket layer and crypto acceleration.

Note The UCS firmware should be upgraded for an SSL card to be supported. For details, see the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform Software Configuration Guide, Release 5.2(1)SP1(7.1).

The SSL card provides a total of 30 GBps of SSL offload capacity that is shared by all the VSBs on the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform. The Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform slices the security processor card and allocates the corresponding capacities to the VSBs, based on their bandwidth requirement. However, you have to configure the VSBs to utilize the allocated slice of the security processor card. For detailed information about Configuring SSL and Crypto Offload Capability in a Virtual Service Blade, see the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform Software Configuration Guide, Release 5.2(1)SP1(7.1).

The Cisco Nexus 1110-X is shipped with two Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCIe) slots with Cisco UCS VIC 1225 (UCSC-PCIE-CSC-02) or the10G Dual Port VIC (dual port 10G card) and the Intel 1G Quad Port NIC (Quad port 1G card) inserted by default. Starting this release, the Dual port 10G card and the Quad port 1G card can be replaced by the SSL card. You can add an SSL card without service interruption.

Installing the SSL Card on Your Cisco Nexus Cloud Services PlatformThis section describes the steps to install the SSL card on your Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform.

Step 1 Power down the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform and then disconnect the power cords to each power supply. The system is powered down when the LEDs on each power supply are off.

Caution When you are handling the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform, you must follow the ESD protocol at all times to prevent ESD damage. This protocol includes, but is not limited to wearing an ESD wrist strap that you connect to the earth ground in the data center building.

Step 2 Disconnect the up-links from the network.

Step 3 Slide the Cisco Nexus 1110-X out from the rack, and remove its top panel.

Step 4 Once you remove the top panel, you can see the Cisco Nexus 1110-X with its default configuration. The PCIe2 slot has the Quad port 1G card and the PCIe1 slot has the Dual port 10G card.

Caution The system will not boot, if either of the PCIe slots do not detect the right card.

Step 5 You have two options. You can either replace the Quad port Intel NIC by the SSL card in the PCIe slot 2, or you can replace the Dual port VIC card with the SSL card in the PCIe1 slot.

Step 6 Once the SSL card is installed in the desired PCIe slot, slide the lid of the Cisco Nexus 1110-X back, restore all the configurations and power on the device. To view a video of the installation, see the Hardware Installation Video.

Step 7 Once the SSL card is installed, you can configure it using the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform Software CLI. Guidelines for Using the SSL CardThe following are the guidelines for using the SSL card on the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform.

1. The SSL card is supported as a Field Replacement Unit (FRU) only on the Cisco Nexus 1110-X.

2. Multiple VSBs on a single Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform can offload their security processing to a single security processor.

3. The SSL card is supported only on a new deployment and you cannot upgrade your existing Cisco Nexus 1110-X pair to a crypto enabled Cisco Nexus 1110-X pair. However, you can convert the existing Cisco Nexus 1110-X to a crypto enabled appliance by replacing the Quad Port Card or 10G card with an SSL card and reinstalling the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform software. For information about installing the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform software, see the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform Software Installation and Upgrade Guide, Release 5.2(1)SP1(7.1).

Note All the existing configuration and the VSBs on your Cisco Nexus 1110-X will be lost when you reinstall the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform software.

4. If the security processor card used by a VSB gets disabled, the VSB moves to the shutdown state in the following cases:

– When the presence of an SSL card is not detected after a system reboot.

Note When a Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform is paired with a new HA appliance, and the HA Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform does not have an SSL card, the VSB will be moved to the shutdown state on the newly paired HA appliance

Getting Started with the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services PlatformTo get started with the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform, you first install the hardware appliance and connect it to the network. You can use either of the following processes to install the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform hardware. The difference is whether you include CIMC configuration.

Once you install the hardware and connect it to the network, you can configure the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform product family management software which includes migrating existing VSMs from a VM to the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform appliance as virtual service blades (VSBs), or creating and configuring new VSBs. Installation Guidelines When installing the appliance, follow these guidelines:

• If you are installing a pair of redundant Cisco Nexus 1110s, you must install them in pairs. The first Cisco Nexus 1110 installed has the primary role and the second Cisco Nexus 1110 installed has the secondary role. A Cisco Nexus1010-X and a Cisco Nexus1010 can form an HA pair.

• Make sure there is adequate space around the appliance to allow for servicing and for adequate airflow. The airflow in this appliance is from front to back.

• Make sure the air-conditioning meets the thermal requirements listed in Appendix A, “Technical Specifications.”

• Make sure the cabinet or rack meets the requirements listed in the “Rack Requirements” section on page 2-3.

• Make sure the site power meets the power requirements listed in Appendix A, “Technical Specifications.” If available, you can use an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to protect against power failures.

• Make sure circuits are sized according to local and national codes. For North America, the power supply requires a 15-Amp circuit.

• Make sure the system date and time match the actual date (UST) in the BIOS menu whenever you install Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform.

Caution To prevent loss of input power, make sure the total maximum loads on the circuits supplying power to the appliance are within the current ratings for the wiring and breakers.

Rack Requirements This section provides the requirements for the standard open racks, assuming an external ambient air temperature range of 32 to 95F (0 to 35C).

The rack must be of the following type:

• Standard 19-inch (48.3-cm) four-post EIA rack, with mounting posts that conform to English universal hole spacing per section 1 of ANSI/EIA-310-D-1992.

• The rack post holes must be square when you use the supplied attachment hardware.

• The minimum vertical rack space per appliance must be one rack unit (RU), equal to 1.75 inches (4.45 cm).

Required Equipment The slide rails supplied by Cisco do not require any tools for installation, but you might want to use a tape measure and level during installation of the slide rails.

Installing the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform Into a Rack Use this procedure to install the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform into a rack.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Before beginning this procedure, you must know or do the following:

Caution If the rack has wheels, make sure the brakes are engaged or that the rack is otherwise stabilized.

• Use two people to help keep the slide rails and appliance level during installation.

• You can use a tape measure and level or count the holes in the rack posts to make sure the slide rails and appliance are level.

DETAILED STEPS

Step 1 Install the slide rails into the rack:

a. Align the slide-rail assembly inside the rack posts with the length-adjustment bracket toward the rear of the rack.

Note Install the slide-rail assembly that has the plastic retaining clip labeled “Push” onto the left rack post if you plan to install the cable management arm (CMA).

b. Compress the length-adjustment bracket until the mounting pegs and locking clips on the slide-rail assembly engage the desired rack holes on the front and rear rack posts. (see Figure 2-1).Make sure the slide rail is level from front to rear.

c. Attach the second slide-rail assembly to the opposite side of the rack.

d. Make sure the two slide-rail assemblies are level and at the same height with each other.

e. Pull the inner slide rails on each assembly out toward the rack front until they hit the internal stops and lock in place.

Note The mounting pegs that protrude through the rack-post holes are designed to fit round or square #12-24 holes, or #10-32 holes when the mounting peg is compressed (see Figure 2-2). If your rack has #10-32 rack-post holes, align the mounting pegs with the holes and then compress the spring-loaded pegs to expose the #10-32 inner peg.

f. Pull the inner slide rails on each assembly out toward the rack front until they hit the internal stops and lock in place.

g. Attach the second slide-rail assembly to the opposite side of the rack. Ensure that the two slide-rail assemblies are level and at the same height with each other.

h. Pull the inner slide rails on each assembly out toward the rack front until they hit the internal stops and lock in place.

Tip You can optionally use the #2 Phillips screws that come with the slide rails to increase stability after installation. These screws can be installed on the front attachment bracket on each assembly, but are not required.

Step 2 Attach mounting brackets to the appliance (see Figure 2-3):

a. Set a mounting bracket (item 3) on the side of the appliance, aligning its keyed holes over the pegs on the appliance (item 2). The plastic installation release clip (item 5) on the bracket should be toward the appliance front.

Note Install the mounting bracket that has the CMA flange onto the left side of the appliance, as viewed from the appliance front. Position the CMA flange toward the appliance rear.

b. Push the mounting bracket toward the rear of the appliance until the locking clip clicks over the appliance peg.

c. Attach the remaining mounting bracket to the opposite side of the appliance.

Tip You can optionally use the #1 Phillips screws that come with the slide rails to increase stability after installation. You can install two of these screws on each side of the server to more permanently attach the mounting brackets to each side of the server, but they are not required.

Step 3 Insert the appliance into the slide rails:

a. Align the mounting brackets that are attached to the appliance sides with the front of the empty slide rails.

b. Push the appliance into the slide rails until it stops at the internal stops.

c. Push the plastic installation release clip on each mounting bracket toward the appliance rear (see item 5 in Figure 2-3), and then continue pushing the appliance into the rack until its front flanges touch the rack posts.

Step 4 Attach the CMA to the rear of the slide rails (see Figure 2-4):

a. Slide the plastic clip on the right end of the CMA length-adjustment slider (item 2) into the rear of the right slide rail (item 1) until it clips onto the plastic retaining flange inside the slide rail.

b. Expand the CMA length-adjustment slider (item 2) until its left end aligns with the rear of the left slide-rail assembly (item 3).

c. Slide the innermost CMA attachment clip (item 4) into the rear of the left slide rail (item 3) and clip it onto the CMA flange that is on the mounting bracket that is attached to the appliance.

d. Attach the two-hole slotted bracket (item 5) that is on the left end of the CMA length-adjustment slider to the left slide rail (item 3). Fit the two-hole slotted bracket over the two pegs inside the rail.

e. Attach the outermost CMA attachment clip (item 6) onto the CMA flange that is on the left rail.

• Do not power on the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform at this time.

Warning Blank faceplates and cover panels serve three important functions: they prevent exposure to hazardous voltages and currents inside the chassis; they contain electromagnetic interference (EMI) that might disrupt other equipment; and they direct the flow of cooling air through the chassis. Do not operate the system unless all cards, faceplates, front covers, and rear covers are in place. Statement 1019

DETAILED STEPS

Step 1 Attach the supplied power cord to the power supply on the rear of the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform.

Step 2 Plug the other end of the power cord into a grounded AC power outlet.

Power is supplied to the service processor in standby power mode.

Step 3 Verify the Power Status LED on the front panel is blinking green, indicating the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform is in standby power mode.

You can connect your Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform to the network using the six Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 ports on the rear panel of the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform shown in Figure 2-5.

Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform network traffic is classified as follows:

Network Topologies

You can choose one of the following four topologies to funnel traffic into multiple uplinks or shared uplinks by traffic type. Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform is installed in high-availability pairs, and the active and standby must be in the same Layer 2 (L2) switching domain.

Upstream Switch PrerequisitesThe switch upstream from your Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform must meet the following prerequisites before you connect the uplinks.

• Alternate upstream switches must connect to the alternate Ethernet ports on the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform.

– Connect the first upstream switch to Cisco Nexus 1110 Ethernet ports 1, 3, and 5.

– Connect the second upstream switch to Cisco Nexus 1110 Ethernet ports 2, 4, and 6.

• You must configure the Ethernet ports on the upstream switch in trunk mode.

• The Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform does not support native VLAN for the SP(1) version.

• Do not add ports from redundant Cisco Nexus 1110s to the same port channel.

• You must enable LACP mode on the upstream switch.

The following example assigns an Ethernet port to an EtherChannel group, enables EtherChannel mode, or both for a Catalyst 6000 or Catalyst 3000 series switch.

Connecting the Uplinks to the NetworkThis section includes procedures for connecting the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform using the Flexible Network Uplink Configuration.

Flexible Network Uplink Configuration

Flexible network configuration offers complete flexibility to connect Cisco Nexus 1110 or Cisco Nexus 1010-X to the network, and allowing flexible deployment of the VSBs on the Cisco Nexus 1110 product family. Flexible configuration thus enables appropriate traffic segregation policies like VSB traffic segregation. The default flexible network uplink configuration is the basic configuration with each physical port acting as an individual uplink. See Figure 2-6. You can then make changes to the default configuration by adding ports to a port channel or by assigning uplinks to a VSB interface.

Note If you need to set up the flex-link mode, but your Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform is connected to a pair of switches that is not in VSS, it is recommended that in HA mode, the channel have just 2 members. There will be VSB traffic loss if the switch goes down. Recommended LACP for this is: - Ports connected to Cat6K-1 as PC-1- Ports connected to Cat6K-2 as PC-2

Step 1 From the rear panel, connect an Ethernet cable to the 10/100 Ethernet CIMC management port (RJ-45).

Note This port is used for configuration of the Cisco Integrated Management Controller (CIMC) software only. All configuration of the Cisco Nexus 1010 software is done using the serial connector port.

Step 2 From the front panel, press and release the Power button to boot the Cisco Nexus 1010.

The Cisco Nexus 1010 boots up in main power mode. The LED changes from blinking green to solid green. The following information about the CIMC management port displays on the Cisco logo screen:

• IP address

• MAC address

Step 3 Observe the booting process on your screen and do one of the following:

• Manually configure static network settings, enable VLANs, or change the default CIMC password by continuing with the next step.

Step 4 Press F8.

The BIOS CIMC Configuration Utility opens.

Step 5 Use the on screen instructions to do any or all of the following:

• Disable DHCP (remove X from DHCP enabled)

• Add a CIMC IP address for the Cisco Nexus 1010. This will be the IP address of the CIMC management port.

• Add a subnet mask for the Cisco Nexus 1010.

• Add a gateway IP address for the Cisco Nexus 1010.

• Enable VLANs.

• Reset the default CIMC user password.

Note The default CIMC password is password.

Step 6 Press F10 to save your changes and then press ESC to exit and reboot the Cisco Nexus 1010.

Note Changes to the IP address take effect after approximately 30 seconds.

The new Cisco Nexus 1010 reboots, and the following information about the CIMC management port displays on the Cisco logo screen:

• IP address

• MAC address

You can replace one Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform in a redundant pair using the process described in Figure 4-1 on the next page.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Before setting up for replacement of a Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform, you must know or do the following:

• The software versions running on the functioning Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform and the replacement Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform must match. The replacement Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform ships with the latest software version installed.

– If you want to downgrade the software version on the replacement Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform, use the reinstall procedure in the Cisco Nexus Virtual Services Appliance Software Installation and Upgrade Guide.

– If you want to upgrade the software on one of the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platforms, use the upgrade procedure in the Cisco Nexus Virtual Services Appliance Software Installation and Upgrade Guide.

• If you want to remove one of a redundant pair, uncable all redundant connections to upstream.

• If you want to install the replacement Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform, recable all connections to upstream to match the functional Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform.

Chapter 4 Replacing a Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform Powering Down the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform

Powering Down the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services PlatformTo power down the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform system, turn the power switch on each power supply from Power to STBY, and then disconnect the power cords to each power supply. The system is powered down when the LEDs on each power supply are all off.

Caution When you are handling the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform, you must follow the ESD protocol at all times to prevent ESD damage. This protocol includes but is not limited to wearing an ESD wrist strap that you connect to the earth ground in the data center building.

Disconnecting the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services PlatformBefore you can remove the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform system components and repack the system, disconnect the uplinks from the network.

Repacking the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services PlatformRepack the Cisco Nexus 1010 appliance by reusing the packing materials in which it was originally shipped. Repack all the items listed in the Shipping Box Contents section.

Caution You must power down and disconnect the system from the network before you begin removing the system from the rack or cabinet.

Required Tools and EquipmentBefore you repack the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform chassis into its original shipping materials, make sure that you have the following tools and equipment:

• Mechanical lift capable of lifting 500 pounds (227 kg)

• Number 2 Phillips screwdriver with torque capability

• Needle-nose pliers

• Electrostatic discharge (ESD) strap or other grounding equipment such as a grounded mat.

• Original shipping container and packing materials

Chapter 4 Replacing a Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform Shipping the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform

Procedure to Repack the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services PlatformTo repack the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform, follow these steps:

Step 1 Compare the equipment to the list provided by your customer service representative. Verify that you have all the items.

Step 2 Check for damage and report any discrepancies or damage to your customer service representative. Have the following information ready:

• Invoice number of shipper (see the packing slip)

• Model and serial number of the damaged unit

• Description of damage

• Effect of damage on the installation

Step 3 To make the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform lighter and easier to move, remove its power supply units, and its external components before you move it. Pack each of these components separately.

Step 4 Remove the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform from the rack.

a. Disconnect all cables from the server. You can leave the cables routed through the CMA.

b. Loosen the two captive thumbscrews that secure the front of the server to each rack post.

c. Pull the server out of the front of the rack until the slide rails stop against the internal lock.

d. Press the removal release clip on each slide rail, and then continue pulling the server out evenly until it clears the slide rails.

Tip You do not have to remove the server from the rack if you can slide it forward enough to remove the top cover and safely view and access the internal components. Always disconnect all power cords before removing the top cover.

Step 5 Replace the server in its cardboard container using the original packaging material.

Shipping the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services PlatformSend the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform back to Cisco for a replacement Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform.

Reinstalling the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services PlatformWhen the replacement Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform arrives, reinstall the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform. See Hardware Installation Process, page 2-3. Include upstream connections that match the functional Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform and then setup the software as either primary or secondary using the Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform Software Configuration Guide.

Installing an Additional Power Supply To install an additional power supply, follow these steps:

Step 1 Insert the new power supply into the bay (see Figure 5-1) and push it inward until the release lever clicks and locks.

Step 2 Connect the power cord to the new power supply.

Replacing a Power SupplyTo replace a power supply, follow these steps:

Note If you have ordered a server with power supply redundancy (at least two power supplies), you do not have to power off the server to replace a power supply because they are hot pluggable.

Step 1 Remove a power supply or a blanking panel from an empty bay:

a. Do one of the following actions:

– If your server has only one power supply, shut down and power off the server.

– If your server has two power supplies, the power supplies are hot pluggable so you do not have to shut down the server.

b. Remove the power cord from the power supply that you are replacing.

c. Push the release lever toward the center of the power supply or blanking panel and pull on the handle to disengage the supply from the backplane (see Figure 5-2).

d. Remove the power supply from the bay.

Step 2 Install a new power supply. See Installing an Additional Power Supply, page 5-1 and Figure 5-2.

Chapter 5 Power Supplies Verifying the Power Supply

Verifying the Power SupplyThere are two methods that you can use to verify the model of the power supply that is installed in your Cisco Nexus Cloud Services Platform:

1. Visually inspect th e power supply at the rear of the server. The power supply model R2X0-PSU2-650W-SB has a sticker with the number 650W-SB.

2. Use the Cisco Integrated Management Controller (CIMC) GUI to view the power supply model:

a. Use a browser to connect to CIMC using the CIMC IP address.

b. Log in to CIMC using your administrator user name and password.

c. On the CIMC Server tab, click Inventory.

d. On the Inventory pane, click the Power Supplies tab.

e. View the power supply model number in the Product ID column. The new power supply is listed by the manufacturer’s model number, R2X0-PSU2-650W-SB.
