SCM is an important part of CIS, What can be the possible ways of implementing

SCM function in a production organization?

Supply chain management is a process of planning and implementation to help meet the

customer needs quickly and efficiently. A lot of businesses are looking towards supply

chain management to help them to work to their highest and fullest capacity. Supply

chain management is necessary for company’s success and customer satisfaction and it

improves quality of life. SCM is all about getting the right things to the right places at the

right time. SCM has allowed business nowadays to not just have productivity advantage

alone but also on value advantage. It contributes to business performance by finding out

ways to get goods to the customer better, faster and cheaper.

In a production organization we can use direct change over method for implementing

SCM.

Direct ChangeoverThe old system is stopped completely, and the new system is started. All of the data

that used to be input into the old system now goes into the new one.

This is has its

advantages.

Takes the minimal time and effort

The new system is up and running immediately

Minimized cost

Minimizes work load

But there are also disadvantages.

Quick

Risky: This could be disastrous if there are errors in the new system

If the new system fails, there is no back-up system, so data can be lost
