VR Cinema in BIFF,’ the biggest Asian VR movie event launched by

Busan International Film Festival and Barunson Co. Inc., focuses on

the future road of VR cinema as popular form of art.

“VR Cinema in BIFF’ includes ‘VR Theater’, the exhibition program

for the audience, and ‘VR Conference”, for film creators and industry

professionals. ‘VR Theater’ will display about 40films, from narrative

fictions, documentaries, animations, to interactive titles, for all the

audience. Theaters exclusive for VR Cinema, located in BIFF Hill

ground floor, will show VR titles of various genres like 360 videos,

interactive, and experiential VR, etc. in one place, showcasing a

futuristic VR theater. This year, the program will have a wide span of

VR titles showing the current states of VR creations, from works by

filmmakers to trans-media creations of cinema and game.

‘VR Conference’ held by Asian Film Market introduces VR cinema

production technologies and reveal the identity of VR movies.

부산국제영화제와 국내 VR 산업을 이끌어가는 ㈜바른손이

2017년 공동 주최로 시작한 아시아 최대의 VR 시네마 행사인

‘VR 시네마 in BIFF’’는 올해 대중적 문화콘텐츠로서의 VR 시네마가

나아갈 방향을 모색하고자 한다.

‘VR 시네마 in BIFF’는 관객 대상 상영 프로그램인 ‘VR 씨어터’와

영화 창작자 및 산업 종사자들을 위한 행사인 ‘VR 컨퍼런스’로 구성된다.

이 중 모든 관객이 참여할 수 있는 ‘VR 씨어터’는 극영화, 다큐멘터리,

애니메이션, 인터랙티브 타이틀에 이르는 전 세계 약 40편의 화제작을

상영한다. 영화의전당 BIFF HILL 1층에 마련되는 VR 시네마 전용관은

360도 비디오, 인터랙티브, 체험 VR 등 다양한 장르의 VR 타이틀을

한 번에 만나볼 수 있는 미래형 VR 극장의 모습을 보여줄 것이다.

특히 올해는 극장용 영화 제작을 해온 작가들의 작품에서 게임 등

다른 형식과 영화를 접목하려는 작품들 또한 포함하여,

VR 영화에 대한 창의적 접근의 현주소를 살펴보고자 한다.

한편 아시아필름마켓에서는 VR 컨퍼런스를 개최하여 VR 시네마 제작

기술에 대한 소개와 더불어 VR영화의 정체성을 밝혀본다.

모바일 VR 헤드셋 Mobile VR Headset헤드셋에 휴대폰을 꽂아서 사용하는 형태이다. 선이 없고, 가격도 저렴하여 널리 퍼져있는 형태입니다.

This is a headset with a mobile phone mounted. It is wireless, cheap and vastly in use in general.

Gear VRGear VR은 기기는 한국의 삼성전자가, 플랫폼과 소프트웨어는 미국의 Oculus사가 담당하는 기기입니다. 갤럭시 노트 5와 갤럭시 S6 혹은 이후의 시리즈 제품이 있어야 작동합니다. 머리의 회전만을 인식하여 제자리에 앉아서 감상하는 것이 권장되며, 급격한 시점의 움직임이 있는 경우 멀미를 느낄 수 있음으로 주의를 요합니다.

The hardware of Gear VR is made by Samsung in Korea and its software and platform are handled by Oculus in the US. It works with Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 or higher editions. It is recommended that the user sits still while feeling the movements of the head. Sudden movements can cause dizziness.

PC VR 헤드셋 PC VR HeadsetPC와 연결되어 작동하는 형태입니다. 가격이 상대적으로 비싸고, 유선방식으로 불편함이 있으나, 최고의 감상환경을 제공하며, 위치인식을 통해 시점을 자유로이 옮길 수 있습니다.

This is a headset connected to PC. It is comparatively expensive and has to be wired. But it provides the best VR environment and enables you to enjoy a wide space tracking.

HTC ViveHTC Vive는 기기는 대만의 HTC사가 기술과 플랫폼은 미국의 Valve사가 담당하는 기기입니다. Valve사가 게임 플랫폼인 Steam을 운영하여 다양한 게임들을 즐길 수 있습니다. 가상의 공간을 현실의 공간에 설정하는 룸 스케일 기술로 인해 상대적으로 넓은 공간을 필요로 하나, 적극적으로 몸을 움직여가며 작품을 감상 할 수 있습니다.

The hardware of HTC Vive is made by HTC in Taiwan and its technology and platform are developed by the US company Valve which operates a game platform Steam enabling the user to enjoy a variety of games. It uses “room scale” tracking technology and allows the user to move in the virtual spaces. The user, therefore, has to secure enough space when using this device.

Oculus Rift CV1은 기기제조와 플랫폼 및 소프트웨어 개발을 Oculus사 한곳에서 담당하고 있습니다. 제조사 스스로 콘텐츠 생태계 조성을 위해 많은 힘을 써왔으며, 덕분에 양질의 영화 콘텐츠들을 많이 만나볼 수 있는 기기이기도 합니다. 본디 책상 앞에 앉아서 사용하는 것을 전제로 개발되어 넓은 공간을 필요로 하지 않고, 필요 시에만 센서와 컨트롤러를 추가하여 활용할 공간을 넓히는 것이 가능합니다.

Oculus Rift CV1 is made by Oculus covering all the process from hardware manufacturing to platform and software development. Oculus has been dedicating to constructing content ecosystem by itself and thus enables the user to have an access to various quality film contents. It is designed to be used at the user’s desk allowing the user to enjoy VR in a comparatively small space. When necessary, however, the user can extend the space by adding sensors and controllers.

In VR environment, users can take a look at the world of virtual reality through headsets and go further to experience it with additional supporting devices such as a controller. In order to show the films at their best quality, korean subtitles are not provided. If subtitles are inserted, it will disturb you from enjoying the films due to interface issues. For further details about the films to be displayed, please see the synopsis in the guide book.

세 이하)의 경우 관람을 삼가는 것을 권장해 드립니다.

Children under age 13 are limited to view the films due to safety reasons. It is recommended that children under age 8 are not allowed to view the films. .

▶ VR헤드셋은 머리에 직접 착용하는 관계로 위생문제가 발생할 수 있어 관람 전 안

내 요원으로부터 마스크를 받아서 착용한 후 감상해야 합니다.

In order to provide the best hygienic environment for VR headsets, it is recommended that users wear masks before they put on headsets. Masks are provided by the assisting staffs.

위해 가이드에 따라 자신의 몸에 꼭 맞추어 착용한 후 감상하는 것이 좋습니다.

Since each headset has a different way of adjusting the focus, please check the information from assisting staff first and find the best fit for you before you start experiencing VR.

▶ 작품리스트에는 각 작품 별로 멀미유발도가 표기되어 있습니다. VR 영상의 경험이

적거나 차량/선박 등에서 멀미를 쉽게 느끼는 경우 멀미유발도가 낮은 작품부터 감

상할 것을 권장합니다.

Every film is graded with the level of possible dizziness. VR beginners and those who have frequent carsickness or seasickness are recommended that they start with low level films.

▶ 30분 감상에 최소 15분의 휴식시간을 권장합니다. 감상을 마치신 후에는 충분한 휴식

을 취하고 수분을 섭취하는 것이 좋습니다.

It is recommended that users take a break for 15 minutes or longer every 30 minutes of VR experience. After VR experience is finished, please take enough rest and keep yourself hydrated.
