8:00pm: We’re Livin’ on Dog Food Documentary 2009 Director: Richard Lowenstein Run Time: 94 minutes

Richard Lowenstein’s documentary is not just a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Dogs in Space but a snapshot of Melbourne’s post-punk music scene in the early 1980s. Rowland S. Howard, the Primitive Calculators, Ollie Olsen, Phillip Brophy and many others proffer their recollections and air their animosities in a tribute to the Melbourne underground music scene of ’77 – ’81. The Crystal Ballroom, the ‘Little Bands’, the Boys Next Door, the drugs, the fashions, the influences, the philosophies, the venues and the legacy of the times.

Cinefest 2012: City Mixtape is a free film festival that explores 3 major musical movements and the cities that created them.

6.30pm: Opening Night PartyFood, refreshments, music. Our guest speaker, Triple R broadcaster and self-confessed punk enthusiast Tristen Harris, will open the festival with the lowdown on Melbourne’s punk scene from the 70s to present day.

More records are released per capita in Jamaica than any other nation in the world. Talent abounds, but opportunity is scarce. Rise Up is about reggae music, the heartbeat of the island; an essential expression of peoples anger and indignation about living in poverty, as well as a source of hope and an outlet for survival. The documentary follows aspiring artists who seek to rise up from the Kingston underground scene for their chance to make something of themselves.
