This Cimarron Electric Community Solar Farm is West of our Kingfisher headquarters.

While it is no secret that wind energy is one of today’s top renewable resources, you may be surprised to know that wind energy has been a regular part of Cimarron Electric’s generation and distribution model since 2003.

Along with wind energy, Cimarron Electric also has solar energy generation helping to provide electricity for our members.

Completing the trifecta of renewable energy is the low cost hydropower that is produced from generators in state lake dams.

These 3 sources of renewable energy produce approximately one third of Cimarron Electric and our sister cooperatives generation needs.

What that means is that you, personally get to

Geothermal Digs in For Another Year of Rebates!A Great Renewable Resource to Save Energy

The 2018 Geothermal Rebate Program is ready for another busy year. Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC) is doing a 2 for 1 rebate match with their distribution cooperatives for 2018.

WFEC realizes huge savings that are gained with geothermal systems. They are the best way to reduce peak de-mands for both summer and winter peak times! In addition to the savings, geothermal systems are some of the cleanest, and most efficient ways to heat and cool your home.

WFEC is offering a $700.00 a ton rebate for Cimarron members who install geo-thermal (Geo) in their homes. Cimarron Electric will participate with $350.00 a ton for our members!

That’s $1,050.00 a ton for installing a new geothermal heat pump (s) in your home.

Geothermal systems can also help heat your water. WFEC will kick in another $150.00 if your geother-mal heat pump has a hot water generator installed. And in the two for one match, Cimarron Electric will add $75.00 to the deal.$225.00 paid to you, to help you save money on your hot water heating bill. If you put in a new elec-tric water heater, we will give you another $50.00.

To qualify for the rebate money, your heat and air contractor has to do a Manual J Load Calculation on your home. The Manual J will show the heat load and loss for your home. Then the proper sized geo-thermal equipment can be installed in your house. The paperwork must be signed by you, your con-tractor and a representative of Cimarron Electric Cooperative. The AHRI rating of the equipment must be provided and also an invoice from the contractor.

WHAT ARE THE RULES?You can choose your heat and air contractor and the brand of geothermal heat pump you want installed. The minimum ratings are a 3.3 COP for heating and a 15.9 EER for cooling.

WHAT IF I’M REPLACING AN EXISTING GEO?We know there are approximately one thousand geo’s out on our lines. A lot are getting close to their life expectancies. Since the idea of the program is to save money by reducing load (demand), and the carbon footprint, the rebate criteria is different when replacing a geo heat pump with a geo heat pump. The amount of savings will be less since you had a very efficient geo system that you’re replacing.

The geo to geo rebate will be a 2 to 1 match. WFEC offers $250 per ton and Cimarron Electric offers $125, for a total of $375.00 per ton for our mem-bers. The combined rebate of $225 for one hot water generator will still apply for replacing a geo with another geo that has a hot water generator.

The new geothermal system has to have an effi-ciency rating that is equal to or greater than a 3 EER improvement over the old geothermal to qualify.

To get the rebate forms and to find out more, go to cimarronelectric.com and click under geothermal rebates.

Cimarron generates "green” (continued from page 1)

When it comes to wind energy, Texas leads the country by a landslide in wind energy projects. Iowa is second and Oklahoma follows closely as the 3rd largest state for wind production, ac-cording to the map provided by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA U.S. Wind Industry 2017 3rd Quarter Mrkt. Report).

Blue Canyon Wind Farm was the first wind farm in the state of Oklahoma and is just west of Apache, OK. WFEC purchases the power from this site. Since that beginning in 2003, WFEC has entered into purchase agreements with 10 additional wind farms. These wind farms have a nameplate generation capacity of over 600 megawatts (MW).

An 11th wind farm with 100 MW of capacity is to be operational by Dec. 2018.

When the Army Corp of Engineers built the hy-droelectric dams on select lakes in Oklahoma, the rural electric cooperatives were allowed to purchase a portion of the electric output.

Since that time, WFEC purchases all the hydro power that is made available to us. It depends on the amount of rainfall and the amount of wa-ter that is let go from the lakes. In 2016, WFEC bought 9% of its electricity generation from hydropower.

As a receiver of Cimarron Electric Cooperative electricity, you are not just a customer – you are a member-owner ---which means you can take pride in the renewable energy efforts of your cooperative! That feels good, doesn’t it?

To find out more about wind, solar and hydro energy you can visit the WFEC website which includes a virtual tour of the Blue Ridge wind farm.
