EFQM : Background
The Fundamental Concepts of Excellence by EFQM ( European Foundation for Quality Management ) :
EFQM , A not-for-Profit membership foundation, is the creator of the EFQM excellence Model, manages the European Quality Awards, and is a resource to European organizations on business and continuous improvement disciplines, tools and techniques.
• To stimulate and, where necessary, to assist management in adopting and applying the principles of organizational excellence.
• To improve the competitiveness of European Industry and to close the gap of competitiveness between Europe and US/Japan.
• Supported by the European Commission in The European Quality Promotion Policy.

CII - EXIM
The CII – EXIM Bank award for Business Excellence was jointly established by Confederation of Indian Industry ( CII ) and Export-Import ( EXIM ) Bank of India in 1994 to enhance the Competitiveness of India Inc. This Award is based on the European Foundation for Quality Management ( EFQM ) Model.
CII,a non-govt,not-for Profit Organisation, founded over 111 years back, Playing a proactive role in India’s development role.
CII is India’s Premier business association with direct membership of 6300 companies and 90000 as indirect.
GEMN, Global Excellence Model Network includes administrators of US MBNQA, EQA, Australian Business Excellence Award, Japan Quality Award, and the SPRING, Singapore. This Ensures CII-EXIM award framework reflects the best validated management principles and practices.
EXIM Bank of India, an apex financial institution, set up in 1982, for financing, promoting and facilitating India’s International trade.
Promotes Indian Companies to obtain International Quality Certifications like ISO 9000,14000, CE/GS.

About CII
Function :
CII aims to usher change by working closely with government on policy issues, enhancing efficiency, competitiveness and expanding business opportunities for industry through a range of specialized services and global linkages. It also provides a platform for sectoral consensus building and networking.
History :
CII was established in 1895. The initial partners were five engineering firms, all members of the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In the beginning, the name of the organization was Engineering and Iron Trades Association (EITA). EITA was set up with a goal to pressurize the British government to place government orders for iron and steel and engineering goods with companies based in India
Membership :
It is India's premier business association, with a direct membership of over 8100 organizations from the private as well as public sectors, including SMEs and MNCs, and an indirect membership of over 90,000 companies from around 400 national and regional sect oral associations.
About EXIM-BANK
Description :
Government of India launched the institution with a mandate, not just to enhance exports from India, but to integrate the country’s foreign trade and investment with the overall economic growth. Since its inception, Exim Bank of India has been both a catalyst and a key player in the promotion of cross border trade and investment. Commencing operations as a purveyor of export credit, like other Export Credit Agencies in the world, Exim Bank of India has, over the period, evolved into an institution that plays a major role in partnering Indian industries,
Organisation :
Exim Bank is managed by a Board of Directors, which has representatives from the Government, Reserve Bank of India, Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India, a financial institution, public sector banks, and the business community.
Eligibility Criteria
Following types of Organizations are eligible to Participate :
1) Large Business Organizations :
• Annual Sales is more than Rupees One Hundred Crore.
• Run as an Independent profit center with full set of accounts.
• More than 50% of turnover is external to itself and the parent company, where one exist.
• Unit has a broad range of support functions ,which it has autonomy over.
2) Operating Units of Large Business Organizations:
• Annual Sales should be a minimum of 50 Crores or a minimum of 25% of the annual sales of the parent organization.
• Unit is Independent of parent Organization in some areas.
3) Small Business Organizations :
• Whole Organizations with annual sales less than rupees one Hundred crores.

The logic status that an Organization needs to:
Determines the results it is aiming for as part of its policy and strategy making process. These results covers the performance of the organization , both financially and Operationally , and the perceptions of its stakeholders.
Plan and develop an integrated set of sound approaches to deliver the required results both now and in the future.
Deploy the approaches in a systematic way to ensure full implementation.
Assess and review the approaches followed based on monitoring and analysis of the results achieved and ongoing learning activities. Finally, identify, Prioritize , plan and implement improvements where needed.
RADAR Logic Contd.
When using the model within an Organization , for example for the purposes of self-assessment , the Approach, Deployment, Assessment and Review elements of the RADAR Logic should be addressed for each enabler sub-criterion and the result element should be addressed for each result Sub-criterion.

Assessment and Consensus Scoring
Applicants check the eligibility criteria for entry and requirements of the award secretariat.
Senior Managers of Industry are selected as assessors and they go through 4 day training on understanding the award criteria and assessment process.
Applicants send 75 Pages (maximum ) applicationdocument to CII.
Assessor team is appointed for each applicant. Assessors individually list strengths /opportunities For improvements and scores. Team meeting to reach consensus findings and score.

Screening for site visits
On the basis of consensus reports, the applicantsare listed for site visits.
Assessor teams are appointed to make site visits.Site Visits (4-6 days) are made to check validity of applicants and clarify issues. Applicants are re-scored and reports are finalized.
Distinguished individuals are appointed and trained on the award model as Jurors. Based on site-visit reports , Jurors decide on the winners of the award, Prizes and commendation certificates.
The CII-EXIM bank award for business Excellence, Prizes and commendations are presented to the winning applicants.
