Issues and SolutionsOur actions can lead to

positive change.Issues, problems, issues! There are big and little issues and problems that concern a lot of people. Some problems and issues have obvious solutions while some issues and problems seem to have no solution.

In your Exhibition process you will get a chance to apply your skills as an action taker to some of these issues and problems. You will be choosing a real problem(either local or global) and carefully working through to a solution and take some action to help this issue or problem.

Working through this Exhibition journal will help you organize your time and resources to discover the best solution to your chosen issue or problem.

Good luck!

Why is this a problem/issue?

Why do you feel a responsibility for this problem/issue?

Inner Journey

Our actions can lead to positive change.

Our actions can lead to positive change.

Child abuse affects me by seeing on the news or in the newspaper the children who have been scared or hurt by their parents, it affects me because I feel like helping them and maybe the topic for pyp will be a good way to help them and spread the news . This affects my feelings and emotions by really making me sad and feel kind of scared. I think this is very important because when a child is getting abused by their parent then someone needs to help the child or call the police.

REFLECTION 1

Our actions can lead to positive change.

You have chosen a topic. •Has it changed from your first thoughts? How and why? •Are you happy with this development? •You have been put in a group. Who is in the group? •Why are they in your group? •Do you think the group can work co-operatively and effectively? How and why?•What did you think about your first week of collaboration?

My topic has changed a lot fro my first thoughts because my First idea was child abuse but then our pyp teacher changed it toPhysical neglect because we thought that would be more connected to us . I am happy with this development but I think the topic could be better. In my group I am with Emma and Gabi but they are my best friendsSo it is hard to concentrate but we can so we get a lot of work done.Emma and Gabi are in my group because Gabi had the same topic as me but Emma had vulnerable children but she thought that was really connected so she joined our group. Our first week of collaboration went really well because we did a lot of research so far and we always work really well together.

Developing Lines of Inquiry

You have defined your problem/issue in relation to Form, Function, Causation and

Responsibility.Look at the remaining two Concepts to clarify your lines of inquiry

Connection How is it connected to other issues/problems?

It is connected to the issues and problems because there

are lots other countries that are poor that don’t get the help

they need.

Perspective What are other points of view?

• Other points of view are that Zimbabwe is already getting

a lot of help.

Searching and Collecting

Our Process – Searching and Collecting

People to whom we spoke:

Name: Nurse Mary

From this person we learned that there Is a lot of aids which means moor people Dyeing. I also learned that the government dose give some money but He doesn't give enough.

Surveys we created and distributed

The group surveyed: Child neglect in ZimbabweNumber of people surveyed: 80

Important conclusion we can make from the results: We have not gotten any answers yet because we just sent it on Wednesday so we have not checked yet.

Important information from our advisor:Our advisor is Mrs. Stiebert, and she gave us some good advice to research about and she researched some stuff like the economy there and she gave us the information that the population was 11.5 million people and 5 million children.

Process Reflection

These are things I thought about our topic before BUT now we think differently

Things that I thoght about before this topic was, well my beginning topic was child abuse, but Emmas ant , we found, worked in Zimbabwe so we decided to change to physical neglect in Zimbabwe.

The are ideas we had about our problem/issue before AND I still have now:The ideas I still have now are that the parents don’t treat them with much respect and don’t send them to school, and make them work so that has quet a lot to do with child abuse.

These are things about our problem/issue that still challenge us and we still wonder about

Things that I still wonder about are that can the people of Zimbabwe just vote on another government or do they have to stick with the same one?

We would like our audience to leave our presentation with these “BIG UNDERSTANDINGS”

What I wold like the audience to leave with is that they now want to help the people in Zimbabwe especially the children.

Synthesizing and Connecting

Think of Solutions.ACTION!

Brainstorm a wide range of ideas that could help solve this problem/issue

Here is your chance to be creative. Write down all possible answers. Do not discard any yet because this is your chance to start thinking outside the box to find a creative solution. Be creative, unusual, fanciful, practical and obvious. S T R E T C H your imagination!

Make your Action PlanPart 1

Examine all your solutions and put them through the S M A R T test.

How will your action affect your problem?

Our action will efect our problem by giving the little kids some information of how other kids in Zimbabwe suffer.

Who needs to be convinced?

I think mostly the little kids because the older kids know a bit more about physical neglect than the kindergarteners.

What objections might you come up against?

Objections that we might face are that maybe the little kids really wont understand anything about it.

How can you overcome those objections?

We can make it a bit more clear for the little kids to understand.

What resources will you need?

We will need to se the smartboard because we have a powerpoint that we will show.

Who can help you?

Mrs. Stiebert, our advisor, can help us work out what things we will do when. And what information we can use.

Where should you begin?

We should start by telling them what physical neglect was.

What will be your next step?

Our next step is preparing for the presentation.

Who will do what to achieve your action?

Emma will explain a bit about physical neglect and then we will all do the skit, then we will do our game.

REFLECTIONActing and Sharing

Our action will change the children and their families because they will go on the websites we recommended

and read the information there and then realize how bad this actually is.

Exhibition Night - Reflection

Our actions can lead to positive change.

Our actions can lead to positive change.

I thought Exhibition night did not go so well because:

• Not many people came to the presentation•We didn’t memorize our script•And our slides weren't in the right place

But on the second day a lot of people came to the presentation.
