ST. PETER’S MISSION STATEMENT: As God’s family led by the Holy Spirit, we are a loving and welcoming community inviting others to share and grow in God’s Word and grace. Vision Statement: As compassionate people we desire to reflect Christ’s love. Sabbath Rest I recently learned the hard way what happens when one doesn't actually observe the Sabbath. I had always assumed that the primary part of observing the Sabbath was going to church on Sundays. That is an important part of Sabbath, but it isn't the whole of it. I had not taken any me off from work since Christmas. I was averaging about two days off a month before I went on vacaon at the end of June. That me of rest was a shock to my body. Less than two weeks aſter returning from vacaon, I got strep throat. Then an ear infecon. Followed by an eye infecon. It turned out that one four-day rest period in six months is not enough rest. My body forced me to take Sabbath. As I was lying on my couch with a fever, I couldn't help but be frustrated at myself for using my me off this way. If I had observed the commandment to honor the Sabbath on a weekly basis, my me off could have been used doing things that recharge my soul - reading, going for walks, playing with my niece and nephew - anything other than checking my temperature once every two hours. Sabbath rest isn't a suggeson. It's a commandment. God cares so much about your well being that Sabbath ranks higher in the 10 Commandments than not stealing or murdering others. It is right aſter the big ones of refraining from idol worship and not taking God's name in vain. Sabbath is important. In some ways, avoiding Sabbath is its own form of idol worship. God has given me this body as a giſt, even with its limitaons and brokenness. My flesh is what connects me to the flesh of Christ. My body is what helps me move and serve others. My taste buds savor the blessing of food and my ears relax at the sound of music. My body is one of God's greatest giſts to me, and when I neglect to give it Sabbath rest, I am saying other things are more important than this giſt from my Creator. I know I am not alone in neglecng Sabbath. I also know I'm a few weeks I'll look back at this arcle and say that my past self had some good ideas but couldn't imagine the to-do list I'm facing today. I, like many of us, will always find a reason to break this commandment so easily and oſten. Perhaps the place for us to start in honoring the Sabbath is to spend some me praying over why this commandment meant so much to God he placed it over not murdering or stealing. Vision Statement: As compassionate people we desire to reflect Christ’s love .

Sabbath Rest

I recently learned the hard way what happens when one doesn't actually observe the Sabbath. I had always assumed that the primary part of observing the Sabbath was going to church on Sundays. That is an important part of Sabbath, but it isn't the whole of it.

I had not taken any time off from work since Christmas. I was averaging about two days off a month before I went on vacation at the end of June. That time of rest was a shock to my body. Less than two weeks after returning from vacation, I got strep throat. Then an ear infection. Followed by an eye infection. It turned out that one four-day rest period in six months is not enough rest. My body forced me to take Sabbath.

As I was lying on my couch with a fever, I couldn't help but be frustrated at myself for using my time off this way. If I had observed the commandment to honor the Sabbath on a weekly basis, my time off could have been used doing things that recharge my soul - reading, going for walks, playing with my niece and nephew - anything other than checking my temperature once every two hours.

Sabbath rest isn't a suggestion. It's a commandment. God cares so much about your well being that Sabbath ranks higher in the 10 Commandments than not stealing or murdering others. It is right after the big ones of refraining from idol worship and not taking God's name in vain. Sabbath is important.

In some ways, avoiding Sabbath is its own form of idol worship. God has given me this body as a gift, even with its limitations and brokenness. My flesh is what connects me to the flesh of Christ. My body is what helps me move and serve others. My taste buds savor the blessing of food and my ears relax at the sound of music. My body is one of God's greatest gifts to me, and when I neglect to give it Sabbath rest, I am saying other things are more important than this gift from my Creator.

I know I am not alone in neglecting Sabbath. I also know I'm a few weeks I'll look back at this article and say that my past self had some good ideas but couldn't imagine the to-do list I'm facing today. I, like many of us, will always find a reason to break this commandment so easily and often.

Perhaps the place for us to start in honoring the Sabbath is to spend some time praying over why this commandment meant so much to God he placed it over not murdering or stealing. Why does this commandment make the top of the list? How can we be more faithful in honoring why God feels it is so important?

In peace,

Pastor Tina

JUBILATE CIRCLE

THANK YOU One of our local pastors said “God doesn’t will our suffering but in that suffering He picks up the pieces and builds something beautiful”. This was clearly evident on Saturday, July 20th when the communities of Jeromes-ville and New Pittsburg came together to support their own. John Bogavich, Mindy Speicher and their families suffered an unimaginable loss, but we can only hope that they can find some comfort from the outpouring of love that they received.

The members of LORAC (Leaders Of Rural Area Congre-gations) would like to extend sincere a THANK YOU to the community for everything that they did to help make the benefit for the Bogavich/Speicher’s a success. Thank you to the New Pittsburg Lions Club for the use of the park. To the Jeromesville and New Pittsburg Fire Department. To the many volunteers who helped with set up and clean up after the event. The volunteers who helped with preparing and serving the meal. Those who donated food and desserts. To the many local businesses and individuals who donated items for our live and silent auction. To those of you who bid on our auction items. To Dave Geitgey for his auctioneer services. To County Line Clovers 4-H club and to everyone who helped in any way. Each of you were a part of some-thing very special.

June 12, 2019 7:00pm Secretary’s Report Church Council met June 12, 2019 with all eleven members present. Sherri Borton shared devotions. The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were reviewed and approved. Rita will print out expense reports for each committee, so they can compare to their budget. Pastor Tina was busy this month with Blessing of the Fields, which she enjoys and always learns more about our farming community. The Sofa Studies series beginning in June will explore the idea of neighbors as it relates to our synod. The VBS theme is “Who is Our Neighbor?” and Pastor Tina spent a great deal of time this month on that curriculum. She made twelve visitations and attended Panda Preschool’s end of school celebrations in addition to other obligations. Roger Kamp made a motion to accept Pastor Tina’s report; Ruth Ann Keener seconded, and the motion carried. Council completed our Parish Administrator’s annual review. Properties Chair Mike Martin has gotten one estimate for carpeting and vinyl for the fellowship hall. He will obtain two more before a supplier is chosen. He also talked to our neighbors who park their cars in our lot. We are allowing them to park in our lot but acquired phone numbers, so we could ask them to move the cars when we need the parking space for big events. Worship and Music committee met May 14 and reported the feedback on assisting ministers was mixed. They may be used again for Festival Days. The Unity Singers will provide special music on July 21. Outdoor Worship service and picnic is August 4. Social and Outreach committee’s Giving Tree recipients are as follows: July-NW Elementary (sweatpants); September-Panda Preschool (supplies); November-West Salem Outreach (items for Thanksgiving baskets). Our fall wiener roast at the Tegtmeier’s will be October 6; Rabbit Supper-November 20; Bell ringing for the Salvation Army-December 7; and Christmas Caroling is scheduled for December 8 We received LORAC minutes from May 23. The next council meeting will be July 10 at 7pm. The Executive Committee will meet one half hour before. We adjourned by praying The Lord’s Prayer together.

Walt & I would like to thank all our friends & family at St. Pete's for the geraniums delivered by Ken & Sally Chance, and for the notes.

And a big thank you for the numerous cards sent to Walt for his 90th birthday. His party and sharing of poems and memories was the highlight of his year.

Your thoughtfulness is so very appreciated.

Love,

Elly

To all my friends at St. Peter,

Thank you for all the cards, prayers, and messages left on my phone. They all helped me get through my surgeries.

I am feeling much better now. Doing things I haven’t done for a few months. I get tired easy, but I just rest for awhile.

May God Bless you all.

Sincerely,

Betty Kreiling
