- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - MEET THE CANDIDATE - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The interests of our High School students vary greatly. Most of them lean toward sports and friends,

but it is really nice when we see those who have an appreciation of God’s Gift of NATURE!

KAELA JULES QUIAMBAO ANTONIO is one such “Tree-Hugger”. This older of the two Antonio children is a 14-year-old Freshman at Castro Valley High where she enjoys her English class. Kaela is an all-around athlete, as she plays soccer, tennis and participates in track. She is also an altar server and a choir member. Other Kaela favorites include fried rice, Teen Wolf, and modern music. When it comes to televised sports, Kaela enjoys watching soccer, but she doesn’t have a favorite team. For vacations, Kaela favors, “The Europe/Asia areas”. And, when asked who has most influenced her life, Kaela tells us that it is her Grandparents—Lucky Kaela, Lucky Grandparents. THOMAS SAMUEL ROBBINS is active in 4-H! Tommy, is the younger of the two Robbins children. His sister, Jenny, was con-firmed here in 2010 AND, according to her little brother, is the greatest influence in Tommy’s life. Tom, at 15, is a CVHS student, where he is enjoying his sophomore year and his Math class. Tommy favors Karate and playing basketball. He is a fan of Country and Rock music, Percy Jackson books, the Oakland A’s, the SF Giants, and the 49ers. Tommy is an animal lover (especially his two dogs) and he is a dog handler, who competes at the county fair through 4-H. Tom most enjoys spending his free time on the comput-er, playing video games. When he gets outdoors, it is the woods that call his name, as Tommy is a Nature Guy by nature.

These two candidates should be very happy in 7 short weeks … Our First Retreat is a FEAST of TREES and such! God is GOOD!

PARISH EASTER EGG HUNT! We invite all of our Parish Children to join our Confirmation Candidates and our Easter Bunny for an Egg Hunt to follow the 9:00 Mass Next Sunday… Please follow the signs for age group locations and listen for the CCD bell to signal the start. Happy Hunting!

LETTER FROM POPE FRANCIS THE “JOY OF THE GOSPEL” CONTINUED...

The Church’s Missionary Transformation—#74 Challenges from urban cultures What is called for is an evangelization capable of shed-ding light on these new ways of relating to God, to others and to the world around us, and inspiring essential values. It must reach the places where new narratives and para-digms are being formed, bringing the word of Jesus to the inmost soul of our cities. Cities are multicultural; in the larger cities, a connective network is found in which groups of people share a common imagination and dreams about life, and new human interactions arise, new cultures, invisible cities. Various subcultures exist side by side, and often practise segregation and violence. The Church is called to be at the service of a difficult dia-logue. On the one hand, there are people who have the means needed to develop their personal and family lives, but there are also many “non-citizens”, “half citizens” and “urban remnants”. Cities create a sort of permanent am-bivalence because, while they offer their residents count-less possibilities, they also present many people with any number of obstacles to the full development of their lives. This contrast causes painful suffering. In many parts of the world, cities are the scene of mass protests where thousands of people call for freedom, a voice in public life, justice and a variety of other demands which, if not properly understood, will not be silenced by force. Fr. Terry’s Remarks— When we board a plane, travel a few thousand miles, and after we disembark, we know we are in a new place and among different people. We get ready to adapt to our new circumstances. For the last few decades especially, we have been flying with rap-id change and living with new peoples who have settled among us. We have been caught unaware, and mentally and psychologically we have not prepared ourselves or adapted to our new environment. We feel almost strangers in our own birth place. We, as people and Church, have to begin a new dialogue. That's why Pope Francis is causing so much surprise, yet at the same time so much joy. Almost universally people feel this man is talking their language, this man knows and recognizes us. They are pleasantly surprised. What's Francis' secret? Common humanity and the Gospel of Jesus!! Let every one of us take a good look in our mirror.
