Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time readings: Wisdom 1:13-15, 2:23-24; Psalm 16 and Psalm 27; Mark 5:22-24, 35-43
Prayer of the Day: God of all people who live and of all who are dead, look with pity on those who are close to dying and on those in our families who have died. Teach us to understand that dying is just a doorway to a new and better life and that one day, with the help of Jesus, we will all live together with you in a world that will last forever and ever.
Death and dying are never easy subjects to talk about, but the readings today focus on the good that can come from it. The first read-ing stresses that God never wanted to people to die and that all living things are good. We were made in God’s image to live forever so how could we be bad. At the end of the first reading, it says the devil was jealous of Jesus and brought evil into the world. What this means is that if we need to make a choice to either follow God and have eternal life or follow evil and not have that li fe with God. The Gospel ask speaks to us about death. Jairus was a very important man and his daughter was dying. He asked Jesus to heal his daughter, and so Jesus went to their house. Before they arrived at the house, they were met by family saying the girl had already died. Jesus continued on anyway because he knew Jairus had much faith and believed Jesus could heal her. At the house, Jesus went to the girl and said “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”. She did and was healed. Many were amazed, but really should not have been. Was not this the Jesus who had shown his power over evil spirits, wind and water? Sometimes we just need to see for our-selves the miracles we have only heard about. Seeing is believing, but believing without seeing is faith.
Buildings and Grounds Update
First, the Committee wants to acknowledge and thank the Kirsch Family for coming forward and planning to work on the steps and handrails at Cameron’s Bottom – the special project reported in the June 13th bulletin. We are grateful for your help on this project!
A group of parishioners from the Ernest site got a good start on landscaping around the Gazebo there. A meeting was arranged with a Master Gardener (as recommended by parishioner Charlie Venturella) to discuss what was needed and also recommendations on how to proceed. Those who attended this meeting included: Martha Jack, Stan Receski, Vince Receski, Dave and Sara Shearer, Jerry Shipe, Jan Starry, Deacon Steve and Sandy Black. Dave Sharer and Stan Receski stepped up to co-chair the group for this project. The next week, the group removed the white stones and landscape fabric, placed a border around the Gazebo and transplanted some of the lilies from around the border of the area. Hemlock mulch was then placed around the lilies and the dogwood trees at the front of the Church. Things are looking great already! The workers included: Dave and Sara Sharer, Stan Receski, Vince Receski, Erin, Seth and Wyatt Boring, Martha Jack and Jerry Shipe. Barb Treese helped by contacting people to help with the project. She also will lead a group working on the kitchen – cleaning it out, and keeping what might be needed for any events that may be held there. We thank all of you for your time and donation of materials for the project. Keep an eye on this area – more work is planned.
The Ernest Work Day was also a success, thanks to those who were able to work on the projects: Michelle Fleming, Jerry Shipe, Wimp Lamer, Pete Larme and Deacon Steve. The following items were completed: replacement of recessed light at the entry of the Church, emergency light was installed in the nave of the Church, light bulbs around the gazebo were replaced, and the brick wall along the entrance to the basement was caulked. The mulching that was on the list was complet-ed earlier in the week by the first group also. Thank you to all who gave of their time to help with these projects – all at the cost of just over $50 for materials (from the Ernest Project Fund). An updated list of ‘to do’ items will be sent to the Church.
***Next Work Day – SATURDAY July 17th – at the Clymer site***
Also, lists for work days at each site will be sent out soon. Please look at them and if there is something that YOU can tackle before the work day, let John Hardesty or Deacon Steve or the office know. We can obtain the materials you need to do the work.
Thank you to everyone for your prayers & support of these projects by your donation to the Project Fund (blue enve-
lope in the packet for each month). These projects to repair & keep things looking good could NOT be completed without you!

The parish festival is coming August 8th! It is a special day for family, friends and fellowship. Together we can share our many blessings. We have seen many adjustments to our parish life over
the past year, and our annual parish festival continues to be a “work in progress”. Last year we held a “modified” festival with the basket raffle and delicious festival food. A modified Parish Festival will again take place on Sunday, August 8th.
The popular 50/50 raffle tickets are available at the back of all the churches. We are asking that you purchase the
tickets for $10. Your tickets will be entered into the Summer 50/50 raffle drawings. Beginning immediately, every time the 50/50 reaches $500 we will pull a ticket for a new winner. By purchasing your 50/50 tickets early you will be eligible for all of the drawings! Additional tickets are available upon request or may be purchased at the office. Keep the tickets that say “keep this coupon”. Please write your name and telephone number on the back of the other tickets. Return those tickets along with your $10 to the office or in a separate envelope via the collec-tion basket or mail them to the Parish Center, 349 Morris Street, Clymer PA 15728. Winners do not need to be present at the time of the drawing.
We will be holding the annual Basket Raffle in the Social Hall that day as well. If you would like to donate a basket or any items to create a basket, please call Janet Receski 724-465-7566. You may also drop off your baskets at the church office. Please consider donating a basket or items to help make this Basket Raffle a huge success! This is always a favored part of the festival, everyone enjoys seeing all the amazing baskets and getting a chance to win one.
The cake wheel will be spinning again at the parish fes-tival this year! To make this a success, we need many cakes for people to have a chance to win. If you’re able
to make a cake, please call the parish office 724-254-3041. The cakes can be brought to the Parish Social Hall the morning of the festival.
Are you able to help for a few hours on the day of the festival or prior to it? If you would like to volunteer in any way, please let us know. “Many hands make light work.”
We are in need of a new co-sponsor for next year’s parish calendar
The cost of the sponsorship is $500
If there is any business owner or individual(s) interested in supporting our parish by underwriting the cost, please con-tact either our business manager Leigh Shubra or Fr. Jim as soon as possible at the Parish Office 724-254-3041.
With the current guidelines, the plan is to have faith formation for grades K-8 in person in the fall Monday nights as we had in the past. There will also be additional workshops for students who will be in second grade in the fall as well as those going into sev-enth grade. More details to follow for those sacrament grades. Those who will be in 8th grade and have met all the criteria for being Confirmed will be Confirmed in October 2021. If your child has not received all the sacraments needed to receive First Holy Communion or Confirmation, please contact Marie at the Parish Office. Registration form and more details to follow as we get closer to the start of classes. Tentative start date for faith for-mation is Monday, September 13, 2021
