New Parishioners
We are happy to welcome all new members to our parish community. Your registration is important to us. In order to participate in the Sacraments of Baptism, Matrimony, and be granted a letter of eligibility for sponsorship at Baptism and Confirmation, it is necessary that you be registered at the Church of the Resurrection. Registration packets are available in the Parish Offices located in the Parish Life Center.
Marriage
A couple who wishes to marry within the Archdiocese of Washington must contact their parish priest/deacon at least six months prior to the intended wedding date. At least one of the parties must be a registered member of the parish. If you are not registered in the parish, but still have immediate family in the parish, please contact the office. Marriage preparation can be accomplished in several ways: Engaged Encounter, a parish class or group preparation, or a personal preparation. The priest/deacon you meet with will discuss with you the best option for your needs and/or circumstances.
Baptism
Registered parishioners planning to have their child under the age of five baptized, must complete the Baptism Preparation Class. Prereg-istration is required at least one week before the class by emailing Deacon Chuck Bieberich at: [email protected].
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
People who are interested in becoming a full member of the Catholic Church are encouraged to contact RCIA coordinator, parishioner Joel Whitaker, at [email protected], for the current schedule or visit our website to learn more.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Children/Teens
Children/teens in grades 1-12 who have not been Baptized, received the sacraments of First Communion and/or Confirmation may be enrolled in the Sacramental Preparation Religious Education Program (RCIC). If fully prepared, they will receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and/or Eucharist at the Easter Vigil or during the Easter season. The RCIC syllabus is adapted for their age. Contact Helene Stever, DRE at 301-288-4664.
Sick, Homebound & Hospitalized
If you are aware of anyone who is not able to get to church because of age, infirmity, or recent hospitalization who would like to receive the sacraments, please contact Kathy Ford at 301-236-5202 during business hours.

ANNUAL END OF YEAR CONTRIBUTION STATEMENTS
During the next few weeks our business office will begin to
prepare contribution statements for the calendar year 2016
(for regular envelope users/electronic contributors). The parish
is not obligated under the law to send these statements, but
rather it is done as a courtesy to our parishioners in gratitude
for their faithful sacrifices of treasure and to assist them as they
prepare their 2016 tax returns.
Contribution statements will be mailed sometime toward
the end of January or the beginning of February. Statements
will only be mailed to parishioners who contributed $250 or
more to the parish over the past year. Others may request a
statement, should you need one, from the business office.
We strive for accuracy in our record keeping, but occasionally
through human or technical errors we make mistakes. If there
are discrepancies in your statement, please call Gwen Wilhelm
in the business office 301-236-5200 (ext. 106). Your canceled
checks will greatly assist us in correcting our records!

OFFERTORY ENVELOPES
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to use your Offertory Envelopes or Electronic Giving and for your weekly sacrifice of treasure to our Lord.
We'd like to thank those of you who have already picked up
your envelopes and have begun using them. We also appreci-
ated those of you who have used leftover envelopes from the
previous company to make your donation to the church last
weekend. You made it simple for our counters to understand
your intentions.
For those of you who had to request a boxed set, we thank
you for your patience and will contact you either by telephone
or email to let you know when your set will be available for
pick-up. Our goal is to have your set ready within a week of
receiving your request. Meanwhile, we thank you for your
patience. Please do not hesitate to contact the office if you
have any questions. Please continue to use a blank envelope,
offertory envelope located in the church, or an envelope from
the previous company until you receive your boxed set.
We've received several calls and emails from our electronic
contributors. We have made no changes at this point regarding
our process, so unless you notify us, your designated contri-
bution will continue to be withdrawn as originally instructed
by you in the same manner as when instituted in 2004. If
you received a boxed set, you may use the second collection
envelopes if you wish to make a contribution for that specific
purpose. If you would like to return the package so that it may
be recycled for another parishioner, you may drop it in the
collection basket or hand it to an usher. Thank you!
Thank you for your gift of faithful stewardship! Your weekly
offering is vital to the life and ministry of our parish…if you
are not currently making a weekly offering, consider this tax
deduction and easy way to work with our Lord in the vineyard.
Please keep the following members of our
parish community in your prayers!
For the sick, especially
Juanita Bateman, Rev. William Brailsford, Joshua, nephew of Claudia Caruso, Jewel Chapman, Steven Cinnavei, Ugo Cinnavei, Debbie Fraczkowski, Alicia Francis, Rita Gahles, Rosemary Graves, Beverly Hawkins, Teresa Hewlin, Dona Klem, Hannah Korycinski, Andy Kranking, Moira Lyons, Dottie Maurey, Rosa Minus, Margaret Murray, Grace Padmore, Bill Peacock, Lisa Peacock, Bruno Quebedeaux, John Joseph Samsock, George Schafer, Brianna Spells, Joe Swab, Bill Taylor, Arlene & Stan Timmick, Helena Troger, Richard Webster, Nancy Wohleber, and those who have no one to pray for them.

For the souls of our faithful departed, especially
Deacon John Cermak, Marge LaGanke, Anita Topnick, Carolyn Ann Rock, and Donald Tubbs
May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Prayer for our Parish
We pray for the protection of the precious blood of your son, Jesus around the Church of the Resurrection, Burtonsville, Maryland, the clergy, the church, the rectory, and all parish property, around its parishioners and their families, the staff and all who have access to Church property so that nothing may touch it and them from without and within that is not of You Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We pray that only your love and peace, courage, and wisdom of your own heart may be upon our beings and all of the Church of the Resurrection Parish.
In your wisdom and merciful love, please guard every square inch of this property to be used only for your holy purpose. Please send Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, and all angels of your choosing to guard and protect to rule and to guide.
We make our prayer to the honor and glory of God in the power of the Holy Spirit and in Jesus' name.
Amen.

Collection for Church Missions in the United States and the Archdiocese for the Military Services
On the weekend of January 14-15, the Archdiocese of Washington will take up a second collection for Church Missions in the United States and the Archdiocese for the Military Services.
The collection for Church Missions in the United States supports home mission dioceses in this country that are unable to offer their people basic liturgical, pastoral, and service ministries without outside help.
It also supports vulnerable Black and Native American communities with funds for parish support and evange-lization needs.
The Archdiocese for the Military Services provides the Catholic Church’s full range of pastoral ministries and spiritual services to those in the United States Armed Forces, and is therefore responsible for more than 1.8 million men, women, and children.

Chalking the Door: An Epiphany House Blessing
The family gathers to ask God’s blessing on their home and on those who live in or visit the home. It is an invitation for Jesus to be a daily guest in our home, our comings and goings, our conversations, our work and play, our joys and sorrows.
A traditional way of doing this is to use chalk to write above the home’s entrance, 20 + C + M + B + 17. The letters C, M, B have two meanings. They are the initials of the traditional names of the three magi: Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar. They also abbreviate the Latin words Christus mansionem benedicat, “May Christ bless the house.” The “+” signs represent the cross and 2017 is the year.
Blessing the ChalkV. Our help is the name of the Lord:R. The maker of heaven and earth.
V. The Lord shall watch over your going out and your coming in:R. From this time forth for evermore.
Let us pray.Loving God, bless this chalk which you have created, that it may be helpful to your people; and grant that through the invocation of your most Holy Name that we who use it in faith to write upon the door of our home the names of your holy ones Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar, may receive health of body and protection of soul for all who dwell in or visit our home; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Instructions for Blessing the HomeUsing the blessed chalk mark the lintel of your front door (or front porch step) as follows:20 + C + M + B + 17 while saying:
The three Wise Men, Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar followed the star of God’s Son who became human two thousand and fifteen years ago. May Christ bless our home and remain with us throughout the new year. Amen.
Then offer the following prayer: Visit, O blessed Lord, this home with the gladness of your presence. Bless all who live or visit here with the gift of your love; and grant that we may manifest your love to each other and to all whose lives we touch. May we grow in grace and in the knowledge and love of you; guide, comfort, and strengthen us in peace, O Jesus Christ, now and forever. Amen.
“Chalking the door” is a way to celebrate and literally mark the occasion of the Epiphany and God’s blessing of our lives and home. With time the chalk will fade.
As it does we let the meaning of the symbols written sink into the depths of our heart and be manifest in our words and actions the Latin words, Christus mansionem benedictat, “May Christ bless the house.”

Can You Make the Case for Jesus? If someone at work said Jesus is just a myth, could you answer them? If a neighbor asked why you are Catholic, could you answer him? If you don’t believe in Jesus, have you ever considered the evidence for Jesus?
» Can you demonstrate that the Gospels represent eyewitness evidence that Jesus existed, that he performed miracles, how he was murdered, that he really did rise from the dead, that he appeared after the Resurrection to his apostles?
» Can you point to the evidence outside the Bible that supports what the Bible says about Jesus?
» Are you able to point to hard evidence that Jesus is the Son of God?
» How do you explain the Resurrection?
» Can you explain why the early Christians were so certain about their faith that they endured martyrdom?
Come explore all these questions and more for six weeks beginning January 31st at 7:30 pm. We’ll use New York Timesbest-selling author Lee Strobel’s book, “The Case for Christ,”
a Bible, and a study guide for “The Case for Christ” (optional).
HOW YOU WILL BENEFIT » Catholics will gain the knowledge to answer questions about
their faith more deeply.
» People who want to explore the Catholic faith will find this program a good place to start.
» Non-Christians who want to understand Christianity will come to understand a bit about the founder of Christianity.
REGISTER NOW!Registration ensures we will have adequate materials for you, and that you are notified if class is cancelled for any reason. For more information, please email: [email protected].
