Page 3: Church of the Redeemer NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION 201 South ... · Redeemer who have done this ministry. Happening is a “crazy-fun weekend full of adventure and surprises” for youth

The Fall Fair will be held Thursday, November 6 from 3-8 p.m. and

Friday, November 7 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The women of St. Mary's

Guild have been making crafts, scrubbers, catnip mice and beautiful

holiday decorations. We are asking all parish members to save these

dates so our biggest church fund raiser will be a success! Please be

ready to respond when you are contacted in late October to

donate. Each of us has gifts and talent to share. We need baked

goods, candy, pies, homemade crafts, country store items, collectables,

jewelry and, most importantly, your time to work at the fair. As

always, Sherri Stroud's culinary magic in the kitchen is not to be missed

-- if you experience one of her meals, you will insist on another. The

Fair is really a great bonding event, and most participants discover it to

be very rewarding and FUN!

If you have any questions or just want to enjoy a memorable week,

please contact Victoria Stewart, Phoebe Marshall or Glenda Hinsman.

You’ve Done It Again!

Church of the Redeemer November 2014

November news

I find myself making a habit of putting my thanks

in the newsletter, but once again, you’ve earned

it! The Kindness Club has taken on the task this

month of collecting socks and underwear for

Kids at Risk, and once again, Redeemer has

shown its endless capacity for giving!

Just this afternoon, I had a request for socks and

underwear, so I want you all to know that your

donations are already being put to good use. I

know the schools and students who receive these items greatly

appreciate your support, and so do I!

Thank you,

Emily Cole

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Do we have an attitude of gratitude? I’m talking about how we orient our minds and

hearts every day. Do we begin the day saying a prayer of Blessed be God! We have air to

breathe, we have food and drink to sustain our bodies, our life is important to those around

us, our families, our co-workers, our brothers and sisters at Redeemer. We have so many

things to give thanks for each day, do we take advantage of this reality and live with an

attitude of gratitude?

We begin November with the feast of All Saints on November 2nd . This is a day when

we thank God for those who have gone before us. We thank God for giving them to us, to

know and to love as a companion on this earthly journey. It is a day when we thank God for

all those who surround us as a great cloud of witnesses, encouraging us to run the race of

faith that is set before us.

On Thursday and Friday, November 6th and 7th we have the annual Fall Bazaar put on

by St. Mary’s Guild. They will be setting up for the bazaar throughout the week. If you would

like to help, give Glenda Hinsman a call or contact Jerry at the Church office. We hope

everyone turns out for the Fall Bazaar!

On Sunday, November 9th, we celebrate our fall Ingathering of pledge cards. We pledge

our money, our time and our talents to our work together as the family of faith at Redeemer.

This year the pledge of our time and talent is not a list of what we already do, rather we are

asking people to mark what they would like to do in the future that they are not already involved in.

It is an expression of a move forward as we grow in our life of faith.

Of course we end the month with the celebration of Thanksgiving and the first Sunday of

Advent on November 30th. As we prepare for the coming of our Lord in Advent, we will be

hanging up pictures of members of the parish in their younger years. We want to see how

many of them you recognize, as a reminder of the ongoing grace of God that transforms us

throughout the generations at Redeemer.

Let’s celebrate God’s goodness with an attitude of gratitude in November!

New Photos

We are continuing the work to update our Parish picture directory. We have almost completed the roster portion

of the project. Shortly we will begin taking and collecting digital pictures to put in the photo section. There are

several different ways to get your photo in the directory, you can choose to either:

A) Submit a .jpg from the digital photos on your computer to the parish office

B) Pay a photographer to take a professional photo and submit it to us.

C) We will be happy to take a quick digital photo of people on a Sunday morning

D) You can take a selfie and send it to us.

If you would like to send a .jpg, send to [email protected]

Emily Garrity to be Rector of Happening in November

On November 7-9, Emily Garrity will serve as the Rector of this year’s Happening, which takes place at Kirby

House in Mountain Top, PA. A special honor and responsibility, Emily joins a very small group of teens from

Redeemer who have done this ministry. Happening is a “crazy-fun weekend full of adventure and surprises” for

youth from around the Diocese in grades 9-12. It is an opportunity for teenagers to have a deep and personal

experience of Jesus and to be inspired by the Holy Spirit to live out the faith in new and exciting ways.

Congratulations Emily, we will be praying for you and all of the participants at Happening!

Ingathering of Pledge Cards

There will be an ingathering of Pledge Cards during the church services on November

9th. We ask that everyone have their pledge cards in by that time, when they will be

offered at the altar as a sacrifice of praise to God.

A Thank You to Dick Lacey

Mr. Lacey was kind enough to repair one of the silver chalices. Needless to say, this saves a good

deal of money. The cost of shipping, insurance and repairs can be

quite expensive. Again, our thanks to Mr. Lacey

The Altar Guild.

Kindness Club is at it again!

The Kindness Club reminds the community to “be kind” at Halloween!

During the month of October, they have also been collecting underwear and socks for

Kids at Risk. Kids of any age are welcome to join this after school program on Mondays

from 3:15-4:30 in the atrium. The only requirement is that each child must be

accompanied by a parent or grandparent or some responsible adult. Come join the

fun!

Rummage Sale Update

Thank you to all who helped us raise $822!

We have contributed $82 to The Bridge.

A message about stewardship and transformation

From my adventures in this position as a leader of stewardship, I am frequently now thinking about

how I can protect and care for (be a steward of) my Church, my spiritual health, my physical state and

our Earth. To do this, I have to change a bit. Is it ironic that this stewardship season is focused on

transformation?! (We think NOT!) The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the word

transform: To change (something) completely and usually in a good way. How has our

Church changed me? I have allowed myself to become part of the church family, instead of just

coming to Church. The call to strengthen my faith was there – I just needed to LISTEN! Several

years ago, my Aunt Mary Geffert asked me to join the choir. That was a change! Then I was asked

to run for Vestry, and blessedly got elected. That was a change! Now, I’m attending the womens’

Bible Study group… more changes! The changes inside me go a little deeper. As I rely more on the

Church and the church on me, I find myself growing and wanting to grow in my spiritual life. I am

looking to God regularly for direction. I don’t giggle at the popular phrase, “WWJD? (What Would

Jesus Do?).” I honestly ask myself “What would Jesus do?!” How has our Church of the Redeemer

transformed you?

In faith, Alice

Share those old photos!

Do you have a picture of a parishioner when they were younger or a baby? If you do, could

you please let us borrow them or make a copy for our upcoming “So you think you know your parish

family” program in Advent. The program will be great fun! It is simply the beginning of a way to know

each other better and form tighter bonds as a community of faith. So bring in your photos to Jerry

in the Parish office. We can either make a copy of them or we promise to take good care of them –

and don’t forget to put the name of the person in the picture on the back!

Community Dinner Kudos

In October the Youth Group provided the food for the Community

Dinner. The meal was served by members from the Christian Church.

In November, the Community Dinner will be hosted by the Salvation

Army and served by our Boy Scouts Troop and other volunteers. If

you would like to be involved with the Community Dinners in 2015,

please let Jackie Luther or Fr. Glenn know!
