1 Four beautiful memorial Masses were held last weekend, remembering those who died on that tragic day of September 11, 2001. This was a wonderful way for our parishioners to pray for those who died and their family members. I thank all of you, the parishioners of Holy Spirit Parish, for your support and for the excellent Mass attendance. In a special way, I thank Jim Kane for reading the names at every Mass and for coordinating this very important day! I thank Ed Waldron for his spirited ringing of the bells at every Mass and for his support of this great day! I thank Patrick Lyons, Chief of the New Hyde Park Fire Department, for supporting this event and for his presence at Mass. And, of course, I thank all of our men and women who serve at our New Hyde Park Fire Department. They work hard and risk their lives every day. And, I thank Mayor Larry Montreuil for his words at the 5:00 p.m. vigil Mass. The people of New Hyde Park are in good hands with such a strong, and trustworthy, Fire Department and Village.
2 I thank all of you for your patience in adhering to the Mass guidelines during these challenging times. I know it’s difficult to wear masks during the Mass, but it is for the safety of all. Your patience at the, sometimes long, communion lines is also appreciated.
Receiving Holy Communion on the Tongue If you choose to receive communion on the tongue, I am asking you to remain in Church after Mass ends and you can receive at that time. The priest, deacon or E.M. is required to wash their hands after distributing communion to everyone who requests communion on the tongue. Since this can add 5 to 10 minutes to the Mass, we are asking you to wait until after Mass ends to receive. Thank you!
3 Our brand-new confessional will officially reopen next Saturday, September 26th at 3:45 p.m. The confessional has been reconfigured for the safety of all. It was gutted, painted, and new carpeting was installed, so it is clean and waiting to be used.
4 Please consider taking part in our monthly 50/50 Club raffle. Page 6 of this week’s bulletin provides more information. I thank Maureen and Rich McCabe for coordinating this raffle, previously known as the 999 Club for many years! On this note, we thank all of you for your support of our parish. Every single Church, of every denomination in the entire country has been financially challenged during this pandemic, and we have too. However, because of your generosity we are holding our own. I personally thank all of you who have done your part, it is greatly appreciated!!
5 If there is ever a time that we are unable to print our bulletin, it will appear on our website at: HolySpiritNHP.com. Monica Gannon is the administrator of our website and she can always be reached at [email protected].
6 Have a safe and wonderful week, and may we continue to pray for one another! God Bless, Fr. Grieco.

Reflection
Sunday, September 20, 2020 Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Lec. 133) 1) Isaiah 55:6-9 2) Philippians 1:20c-24, 27a 3) Matthew 20:1-16a FOCUS: God’s love and mercy are never-ending. Isaiah advises us to seek the Lord, an activity we might think of as being complete as soon as we come to believe in him. But really, this is an invitation to grace – a grace that is constant, always available, and generous in its forgiveness. It is a promise of deep and perpetual care by a God who is completely different from us in his thoughts and ways, and yet never-ending in his love and mercy. LITURGY OF THE WORD Isaiah encourages his people to seek the Lord and ask for his mercy – God whose thoughts are so far above their own. Saint Paul tells the Philippians that Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or death. And though Paul longs to be with Jesus in the next life, it is better that he remains with them. In the Gospel, Jesus tells a parable about workers in a vineyard, emphasizing the generosity of the landowner to all who labored.

BLESSING of the ANIMALS
Join us on Sunday, October 4 after every Mass,
between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.,
in the North Parking lot of Holy Spirit
(between Covert Ave. & South 6th St.)
for the Blessing of the Animals.
The blessing of the animals is being celebrated on the Feast Day of
St. Francis of Assisi, who is the Patron Saint of Animals. This special
service will be held outdoors. Parishioners and members of the
community are invited to bring their pets.
50-50 CLUB UPDATE WE NEED MORE MEMBERS!!!
As most of you are aware, the one fundraiser for our parish over the years has been our 999 Club
which changed over to the 50-50 Club about 7 years ago. For many years, we had between 500 and
700 members in the 999 Club. After quite a few years of having close to 200 members in the 50-50
Club, we only have 96 members who have renewed their subscriptions as of this week. While we are
somewhat confident to reach 120 members before our September drawing, which will give us a prize
of $500, our goal is to get additional members. If we could achieve a membership of at least 200
people it would guarantee a prize of over $800, and of course allow for a larger donation to our
parish. With a parish of this size, we do not feel this is an unattainable goal. We realize these days are
difficult ones for many people, but if you are able to support this effort it would be greatly
appreciated. Please consider renewing your past membership or take out a new membership. The
procedure for joining or renewing is easy.
Just put your name, address, phone number and email on a piece of paper, and enclose your $100
check payable to the 50-50 Club (this is less than $10 a month). Please be sure envelope is clearly
marked for the 50-50 Club. It can then be put in Sunday collection, dropped by the rectory during
business hours, or mailed to Holy Spirit Church, 16 S. 6th Street, New Hyde Park, NY 11040. Any
questions, please call Maureen or Rich McCabe at (516) 248-2820 or email [email protected].

Holy Spirit Social Ministry
If you would like to support the Food Pantry, the items most needed are canned vegetables, Progresso soups, Chef Boyardee products, tooth paste, soap and shampoo.
Thank you for your continued generosity!
Food donations can be dropped off inside the church
entrance on Saturday or Sunday during Mass times.
We also thank Dominick’s Deli on Herrick’s
Road, for all they do to support the food pantry.
This year, due to COVID-19, the annual 5K Walk/Run will be virtual. Participants can walk, run, bike, or swim on their own, or with a small group of friends/family, any time during the week of September 26 - October 3, 2020.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul sponsors the 5K Walk/Run to raise awareness about poverty on Long Island and raise funds to help our neighbors in need. It is our largest fund raiser, and the parishioners, friends, and neighbors of Holy Spirit have always been very generous. The money raised by our team helps our neighbors in New Hyde Park and Garden City Park who need assistance with rent, utility bills and other expenses.
You can go online to Runsignup.com/TeamHolySpirit
to join the Holy Spirit team or to donate.
You can also send a check made out to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and mail it to the rectory, or place it in an envelope marked for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and place it in the collection basket at Mass.
For more information, please email us at [email protected]
