The Most Reverend Gerardo J. Colacicco, will make a pastoral visit to our Parish next Sunday, February 23 and will offer both the 9:00 a.m. Mass and the 1:00 p.m. Spanish Mass. The Bishop would like to join us at the hospitality coffee hour after the 9:00 a.m. Mass. He looks forward to greeting as many parishioners as possible during his visit with us. Bishop Colacicco was consecrated on December 10 with Bishop Edmund Whalen. Bishop Colacicco has been pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Newburgh, Saint Columba in Hopewell Junction, and at Saint Joseph- Immaculate Conception, Millbrook. He also has served on the Metropolitan Tribunal of the archdiocese, and for four years, as Director of Pastoral Formation at Saint Joseph’s Seminary. He was named a Prelate of Honor of His Holiness by Pope John Paul II in 1999. He now serves as Episcopal Vicar for Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan and Orange counties.

PERPETUAL ADORATION

Perpetual Adoration is a Eucharistic devotion whereby members of a given parish or area unite in taking hours of Adoration before the Most Blessed Sacrament throughout the day and night, seven days a week. The Blessed Sacrament is exposed in the monstrance to provide a closer intimacy between Our Lord and the adorer.

There are many reasons for having Perpetual Adoration. It provides a practical way of giving the Adoration and thanksgiving which is due to God. It allows us to make reparation for our sins and those of the world as well as to petition God for all that we need.

We are blessed to have Perpetual Adoration in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Lent is coming. It would be a good practice to offer an hour of Adoration each week during Lent. But choose a specific hour and commit to it. This week ask Jesus what He thinks of that idea.

Every hour of the 168 hours of the week is available to you to become a Guardian. Call Marty or Clarice Suchy at 845-692-4510.

SHORT THOUGHT ON THE SCRIPTURES

Our Lord wants us to use insistently the petition prayer or prayer of faith. There are, indeed, other kinds of prayers — worship, salvation, prayer of thanks —, but Jesus insists very much on our often using the petition prayer. Why? Many could be the reasons: because we need God's help to attain our greatest aim; because it expresses hope and love; because it is a clamor of faith. But there is also a motive that, perhaps, is sometimes ignored: God wants things to be a little as we like them. Thus, our petition — which is an act of freedom — along with God's omnipotent power, can contribute to make the world as God wishes and a little as we wish, too. The power of prayer is just wonderful!

-— Deacon Albert Loeffler

FLU SEASON IS HERE The flu season has started with medical personnel reminding us to wash our hands with warm, soapy water and to cover our coughs and sneezes. At church, we will not offer the exchange of peace, as we have done in the past. Please respect your neighbors at Mass. We will resume inviting all to exchange a sign of peace when the flu season has passed.

ST. JOSEPH’S DAY TABLE

A celebration to honor St. Joseph, our Patron Saint, and Patron of the Universal Church, will be held his on feast day, Thursday, March 19. We will begin with a Mass at 7 p.m. followed by refreshments in the Parish Center. Please mark your calendar to attend this special celebration. More information will follow very soon.

SPREADING THE WORD

If you have an announcement of interest or importance to our Parish community, please submit it, in paragraph form, to the Church’s email address: [email protected] Please include the time, date and site of your event plus the full name of a contact person, including a phone number. All items must be received no later than the Thursday that precedes the publication date by 10 days. Submissions may be edited for space considerations, and submitting an item is no guarantee of publication.

PRO LIFE NEWS

The Spring campaign of 40 Days for Life begins on Ash Wednesday, February 26. There is a three-pronged approach to ending abortion. 1) Prayer. Each of us can pray for those mothers considering abortion, for those who would encourage abortions and for the workers in abortion facilities. 2) Fasting. Each of us can fast from a favorite food, TV program or something else that brings us pleasure. 3) Public Witness. If possible, join us at the designated area near Planned Parenthood, which is located at 7 Coates Drive in Goshen. St. Joseph’s is usually there on Mondays.
