Beginning January 1, 2018, the “St. Gregory the Great Purgatorial Society” will provide you the opportunity to have your loved one(s) remembered at Mass beyond the usual Daily Mass intentions. The Purgatorial Society remembrance will be on the First Friday of the month at 7:00 am Mass for 12 consecutive months. This is how it will work:

• Names for enrollment will be taken at all times during the year; name(s) for any given First Friday must be enrolled no less than 10 days prior to that First Friday

• Enrolled names will be listed in the bulletin on the weekend prior to the First Friday for which the member is enrolled; unlike individual Mass intentions, the person/family making the request will not be listed

• While members will be remembered in 12 consecutive First Friday masses, the names will be listed in the bulletin only on the initial First Friday. A certificate acknowledging enrollment will be provided to the requester

• The donation is $20 per enrolled member. Donations to the St. Gregory the Great Purgatorial Society will be used for the priests’ Mass stipend ($10) and to purchase items to adorn the church

• A list of all the members being remembered at each First Friday Mass will be placed on the altar for that MassWe will begin taking enrollments on December 1, 2017 for the January 4, 2018 First Friday 7:00 am Mass. Please direct any questions to Cathy Fischer at 587-4877 or [email protected].

a WeeK of Prayer for PerseCuted ChristiaNs

Participate in a Day of Prayer for Persecuted Christians on November 26, the Solemnity of Christ the King, and a Week of Awareness continuing through December 2. Our Christian brothers and sisters in the Middle East need our solidarity, and the Middle East needs our Christian brothers and sisters. A concern for our Christian brethren is inclusive and does not exclude a concern for all the peoples of the region who suffer violence and persecution, both minorities and majorities, both Muslims and Christians. To focus attention on the plight of Christians and other minorities is not to ignore the suffering of others. Rather, by focusing on the most vulnerable members of society, we strengthen the entire fabric of society to protect the rights of all.

Prayer for Persecuted ChristiansO God of all the nations, the One God who is and was and always will be, in your providence you willed that your Church be united to the suffering of your Son.

Look with mercy on your servants who are persecuted for their faith in you. Grant them perseverance and courage to be worthy imitators of Christ.

Bring your wisdom upon leaders of nations to work for peace among all peoples.

May your Spirit open conversion for those who contradict your will, that we may live in harmony.

Give us the grace to be united in truth and freedom, and to always seek your will in our lives. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Lady, Queen of Peace, pray for us.Prayer composed by Archbishop William E. Lori, Baltimore

Prayer aNd WorshiPour Lord Jesus Christ, KiNg of the uNiverse: mattheW 25:31-46Jesus said to his disciples: “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne, and all the nations will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another,as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’ Then the righteous will answer him and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’ And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me.’ Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.’ Then they will answer and say,‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?’ He will answer them, ‘Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.’ And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

“As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” 1 Pt 4:10

Our parish needs you. Can you increase your weekly contribution by $5, $7 or $10 or more?

Our parish has made targeted reductions in our total operating expenses each year since 2014; we’ve made cuts in costs that we can control. Still, like your family, we have seen higher costs for things outside our control, like insurance, health benefits, pensions and the Diocesan assessment (our tax).

However, over that same time period, our total collections have remained flat and so, our annual cash deficit has gotten deeper. We need your help.

Please prayerfully consider an increase in your weekly contribution and either return your commitment card by placing it in the offertory basket at Mass, or by mailing it back to the rectory. Thank you for your support and consideration.

it’s that time of year agaiN!After much anticipation, the holiday season is here again! Let us make your holiday planning and gift shopping easier! Purchase merchant cards at NO COST to you, while raising money for St. Gregory’s!

The ShopwithScrip Program offers over 300 vendors to

choose from, including major food stores, restaurants, and retailers. Purchase a card and our parish will get back up to 16% on your purchases, and you keep the full value of your card! You can also purchase cards for your household needs, Stars for Jesus donations (see the insert in this weekend’s bulletin for details), groceries, travel, and office supplies.

Visit www.StGregorytheGreatChurch.org/scrip for an order form or pick one up in the Welcome Center. The next order date is December 3 for card pickup on December 10, with two additional order opportunities in December. Have you seen something great happening at St. Gregory the Great? The editors of the Proclaiming column love to have guest contributors to the column. We are running our own – See it, Say it campaign. Please consider volunteering to share good news to be published in our weekly column. Not sure what constitutes “good news?” It can be anything, big or small, that demonstrates the spirit of Christ alive in our parish. This story is an example of a small but touching bit of good news. A dad brought his toddler to Mass, accompanied by a well-loved and much used stuffed animal. Adorable Julianna entertained herself quietly during Mass until Fr. McClane began to sing the Preface. Father may not have known it, but his fine singing voice was accompanied by the sweet, sweet sound of a 2½ year old singing right along with him. Both dad and daughter were an inspiration to me and a wonderful example of how parents can evangelize even the littlest ones. Please send your “news” item to [email protected].

Due to the holiday bulletin schedule, the November 19 Offertory will be reported next week.

“…whatever you did for one of the least of my brothers, you did for me” - MATTHEW 25:40Most of us are generous when it’s convenient for us. We are generous when we have the time or the money. But, generosity is the opposite of that. It means giving of one’s time, money, compassion, forgiveness or mercy when it’s not convenient; when it’s not on our schedule, but on the other person’s schedule.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED GENEROSITY
