We invite all new members of our parish community to register at the Center. We also encourage you to join one of our numerous parish ministries, so that you may acquire a deeper sense of belonging and accomplishment serving the needs of others.
Celebration of the Eucharist Weekdays (Monday to Thursday) at 9:30 a.m.
Saturdays at 5:00 p.m. (Vigil for Sunday)
Sundays at 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. (Family Mass) and Noon
Holy days usually at 9:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. (Please check the bulletin or website.)
Becoming a Catholic or Adult Confirmation Are you interested in becoming Catholic? Were you never Confirmed and now find that you would like to complete your Sacraments of Initiation? Are you interested in finding out more about the Catholic faith? If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, then Faith Formation is for you! Call the Parish Center for more information.
Baptism Baptisms are celebrated on various Sundays throughout the year at 1:15 p.m. You are encouraged to register for the baptism BEFORE YOUR CHILD IS BORN, so that it is easier to attend the required Baptism Preparation Class. Please call the Center and we will be happy to set up an appointment. Many parents also use this opportunity to register in the Parish as a new parishioner. Information about Godparents is available on the website.
Marriage We are happy to arrange for your wedding. First, we have the marriage interview and then we can set the date for the wedding. More information is available on the website. Please call the Center for an appointment and we will be happy to help you!
Reconciliation Confessions are heard in our Church Reconciliation Room (in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel) on Saturdays from 4:00 until 4:45 p.m. You are also welcome to call the Center and make an appointment to celebrate the Sacrament.
Anointing of the Sick We encourage all those eligible for this Sacrament to be anointed after the Noon Mass on the first Sunday of the month or by calling the Center. Those eligible are those who are about to undergo an operation; are suffering from serious illness and the condition has worsened; or are enduring the weakening effects of advancing age and it has been one year since they were last anointed.

ORDINARY TIME By Paul Turner
Ordinary Time, the longest season of the church year, fills the weeks “which do not celebrate a specific aspect of the mystery of Christ.” It’s the no-particular-reason season. Christmas Time honors the birth of Christ. Easter Time rejoices in the Resurrection. Ordinary Time is devoted to the mystery of Christ in all its aspects.
The number of the weeks of Ordinary Time replaces the old counting of weeks “after Epiphany” and “after Pentecost.” The old calendar suggested that Pentecost ran for six months. The new calendar gives Pentecost a day. Then we return to Ordinary Time. At first glance the principles of Ordinary Time seem basic enough. Start counting the weeks after Christmas Time. Break for Lent and Easter. Resume after Pentecost and keep counting till Advent. Basically, that’s how it works. But we have a few quirks. For example, there is no “First Sunday in Ordinary Time;” however, there is a first week. Usually Christmas Time ends on a Sunday with the Baptism of the Lord. The Lectionary also calls it the First Sunday in Ordinary Time, but it is part of Christmas Time. (Some years the Baptism of the Lord falls on a Monday, but that’s another story.) Ordinary Time gets underway on a weekday. When the next Sunday rolls around we start week two. On the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, we see the last of Ordinary Time until after Pentecost. Even then, it emerges only on weekdays. Trinity Sunday always follows Pentecost Sunday, and the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of the Lord comes the next Sunday in the United States. (In countries where this solemnity is a holy day, it falls on a Thursday.) So when the numbered Sundays in Ordinary Time return in summer, we start out a little higher than where we left off. Sometimes we skip one or two entire weeks of Ordinary Time during the Easter break. We want to close the Sundays of the year with Christ the King, one week before Advent. Christ the King always falls on the 34th Sunday in Ordinary Time. So, we determine the week number after Pentecost not based on where we left off before Lent but counting backwards from Christ the King. One or two weeks may disappear, but Ordinary Time still serves the complete mystery of Christ. Copyright © 2012 Resource Publications, Inc., 160 E. The Men
of St Elizabeth
are having
a Retreat!
The retreat will focus on the Importance of
Male Christian Friendship. The characteristics needed for grounding a male friendship,
The importance of men of faith to nurture a friendship,
and finally, ways you can develop your friendships. We believe having a Catholic male friendship is important, it’s the basis of our ministry. This retreat will help us deepen that and go beyond it, into our other friendships—personal, familiar, work, etc.
The retreat will be
Saturday, July 13
in East Marion. We will meet in the St Elizabeth parking lot at 8 a.m. and carpool for those interested. Breakfast, coffee, and snacks will be served. After the retreat, we plan on going into Greenport and breaking bread.
All in all, A GREAT day for men!! And women…a day to get us out of your hair.
Please email us at [email protected] to RSVP or if you have any question.
Peace,
Tom, Mike, and John

First Reading: The Lord communicates to Isaiah a
vision for a new Israel in which all who love her can
be glad. Israel will prosper and her people will find
comfort in the Lord. God will comfort His people
as a mother comforts her child. The Lord’s power
is in His care for His people. How joyful our hearts
will be when we experience this!
Responsorial Psalm 66: The psalmist cries out in
joy in response to Isaiah’s joyful vision of a new and
restored people. We gladly shout in the psalmist’s
words declaring the wonders of God’s deeds..
Second Reading: Paul shares in the sufferings
of Jesus and the marks on his body provide
evidence of this. Only in the Cross can Paul and
others who follow Christ boast. Nothing else the
world gives us or religions require of us, including
circumcision, holds meaning. Followers of Jesus,
regardless of their background, find meaning in
aligning themselves with His Cross.
Gospel: The second episode of Jesus sending His
followers on a mission is today’s Gospel reading.
In the first episode in Luke, Jesus commissions
the Twelve (9:1-6), whereas in this episode
(occurring a chapter later in Luke) Jesus sends
forth 72 of His followers to go out in pairs to carry
out His mission. The longer form of the reading
includes Jesus’ advice to the newly-sent to shake
off the dust of any resistance they encounter. It
also includes the report the 72 give Jesus upon
their return and describes their amazing joy at
the power of Jesus at work in them.
