Marriage Moments: On November 2nd the Catholic Church remembers "All Souls" who have died. Of course, you and your beloved are still very much alive, but you will not al-ways be. Write down one special trait of your spouse that you cherish. Share it today while you can still read and hear it in person.Parenting Pointers: It's that time of year again - Halloween, a full moon and Daylight Savings time ends in most of the USA. So don't lose too much time. Do something fun with your family this weekend beyond dressing up in costumes, even if it's just staring at the full moon in wonder. (www.SusanVogt.net)

LITURGICAL MINISTRYPlease review the revised schedule below and contact the office to let us know if you are willing and able to serve as

a minister next weekend. Please note that there will be no Eucharistic Ministers or Altar Servers for the forseeable future. If you are not scheduled but would be willing to help, call Tracy at 701-255-4600.

In this weekend's homily, I will be speaking about Eucharistic Adoration and I remind you to sign up for this beautiful devotion, if you are able.

We occasionally receive communications from the many people we serve, both parishioners and non-parishionsers. Some are good, some not so good. Some friendly, some not so friendly. Some accurate, some lacking facts. I was recently forwarded a message which I found interesting and I'd like to share it:

"I watched the 10: 45 a.m. Mass on Sunday on the internet. I want to congratulate Corpus Christi for having the most professional recording of the Mass I have seen. The sound of the priest's voice and the voices of the readers were completely audible and the camera focused on everything at the right time. The words which the choir sang were so helpfully shown on the screen so I could sing along..."

I wanted to share this with you because it accurately describes the Parish of Corpus Christi as I envision our work together. What do I envision? Let me put it this way. Although much of our ministry is 1-to-1 working with people, most of what we accomplish is by means of a team. Leadership in the team concept means that although I am the leader of the team, I am first a member of the team. And, as the leader-member of our team at Corpus Christi, I see my work not as a micromanager but one who knows how to withdraw and allow the team to be independent, self-sufficient and to strive. Christ relied on those around Him to profess and pass along the faith and so must a pastor of a parish. I think Fr. Becker knew this well and I have learned it through the years myself. Having said that, read that message again and you can see why it is interesting and accurately supports my staff vision.

To close, I will host Real Presence Radio (91.7 FM) on Thursday, November 5th, from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Tune in!

Have a great week!

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK:

We have been listening to your concerns, and we have set up a dedicated space during the 4:00 p.m. and 10:45 a.m. Mass in our Community Room for those who are immunocompromised or in fragile health and still desire to return to Mass. Masks will be required. Seating is limited per social distancing guidelines. A Dea-con will come down to distribute the Holy Eucharist.

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE"The Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor..." Isaiah 61:1

In November, in gratitude and thanksgiving for the many blessings God has bestowed upon us, let us open our hearts to help those in need in our community. It is time to begin our annual Thanksgiving food pantry appeal. Donated items are used to fill an average of 50 boxes each week. Our goal is to provide enough food in each box that a simple breakfast and lunch meal as well as a hot meal each evening can be prepared for a family for at least that week.

The following items especially needed this year are: canned fruit and vegetables, cereal, pancake mix, syrup, peanut butter, noodles and pasta sauce, instant potatoes and rice.

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE "COVID-19 STYLE" We will be collecting items from November 14th - November 26th. You can bring your contributions any time and drop them off at the table located in the center of the church.

ORWe understand if you are uncomfortable or unable to shop or drop off food donations at the parish this year, so we have added a link to our website where you are able to donate to the Thanksgiving Food Drive online with a monetary donation. You can sponsor a Thanksgiving Food Basket for a needy family or you can make a donation to the food pantry to help us purchase the needed staple items.

Go to www.corpuschristibismarck.com and click on the rolling slide. Please join us as we bring good news to the poor and hungry in our community!

Sunday, Nov 01, 2020SOLEMNITY OF ALL SAINTSGet in the ringCatholic activist Mary “Mother” Jones famously urged: “Pray forthe dead—and fight like hell for the living.” She did both, especially fighting for miner’s rights and against child labor at theturn of the 20th century. Called the “most dangerous woman inAmerica” for her clout with the laboring class, she spoke forthose who weren’t heard. Mother Jones won’t ever be a saint onthe books, but she did as saints do: listened carefully to theconcerns of her times, then went in punching for the needs of theoppressed. Who needs your voice—and maybe your boxingskills?

TODAY'S READINGS: Revelation 7:2-4, 9-14; 1 John 3:1-3; Matthew5:1-12a (667). “They have washed their robes and made them whitein the blood of the Lamb.”

Monday, Nov 02, 2020COMMEMORATION OF ALL THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED (ALL SOULS’ DAY)It is well with my soulThis year, as we mourn the scores of those in our country andaround the world who are dead from the pandemic, All Souls’Day has a uniquely terrible gravity. We are not only grieving theloss of so many human lives but also the loss of what our liveswere like before, and we are doing it without the same emotionalsupport we might have had in physically closer times. Today is anopportunity to pray and remember, and acknowledge the deepsadness that is so important to the healing process. Invite the Godof hope to wipe away your tears.

TODAY'S READINGS: Wisdom 3:1-9; Romans 5:5-11 or Romans 6:3-9;John 6:37-40 (668). “Everyone who sees the Son and believes in himmay have eternal life.”

Tuesday, Nov 03, 2020MEMORIAL OF MARTIN DE PORRES, RELIGIOUSCreate healing and harmonyAfter the summer we’ve had, Martin de Porres is the perfectintercessor for the United States today, on Election Day. Thisfamously humble Dominican friar, born of poverty and mixedracial background, is the patron saint of race relations and socialjustice. Plus, he trained as a doctor to hide an ability to performmiraculous cures. Ask for his help and healing to end our time ofpandemic and social division. And ask to have a heart like his:“Everything, even sweeping, scraping vegetables, weeding agarden, and waiting on the sick could be a prayer, if it wereoffered to God.”

TODAY'S READINGS: Philippians 2:5-11; Luke 14:15-24 (486). "Bringin here the poor and the crippled, the blind and the lame."

Wednesday, Nov 04, 2020MEMORIAL OF CHARLES BORROMEO, BISHOPBe bread for the worldDuring the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, bishopsdispensed Catholics from their Sunday obligation to attend Mass. While there were worries about the future of the Eucharist, someleaders found ways for parishioners to be the church in the world, helping the needy, feeding the hungry, and even doing such thingsas sending baked goods to local hospitals. During the plague of1576, Cardinal Charles Borromeo took to the streets of Milan tofeed the hungry, going into personal debt to do so. Patron saint of

cardinals, seminarians, and catechists, Saint Charles pray for usuntil the day when it is safe for all to gather again to share in theEucharist.

TODAY'S READINGS: Philippians 2:12-18; Luke 14:25-33 (487).“Every one of you who does not renounce all . . . possessionscannot be my disciple.”

Thursday, Nov 05, 2020Keep the conversation goingHave you ever had to rethink your life? Vocation is an ongoingconversation between you and God about how best to use yourgifts, and sometimes a “reset” is necessary. Saint Paul refers tothe years he spent persecuting the church as a loss in today’s firstreading. He thought he was doing the right thing when he pushedto have Christians flogged. But he listened to God throughdramatic events in his life and discerned that his calling was tojoin the Christians, eventually becoming their lead evangelizer.Keep the conversation between you and God going!

TODAY'S READINGS: Philippians 3:3-8a; Luke 15:1-10 (488). “Therewill be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than overninety-nine righteous people.”

Friday, Nov 06, 2020No more scarring the EarthToday marks the International Day for Preventing theExploitation of the Environment in War. Just as human life isimpacted and threatened by war, so too is our Earth. In 2003, thearchbishop of Dublin spoke with the U.S. bishops on today’schallenge of peace, saying: “The pursuit of peace—lasting peacebased on justice—ought to be an environmental priority becausethe Earth itself bears the wounds and scars of war.” The bishopscall the church to “help build bridges among the peace, justice, and environmental agendas and constituencies.” How can we dothis in our own neighborhoods? How can we avoid war and bringjustice and peace to the local environment in which we live?

TODAY'S READINGS: Philippians 3:17—4:1; Luke 16:1-8 (489).“Prepare a full account of your stewardship.”

Saturday, Nov 07, 2020OPTIONAL MEMORIAL OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARYDare to loveIn his papal letter “The Joy of Love,” Pope Francis speaks of the“tender gaze” with which Jesus looks on all. He might havelearned this from Mary. In marriage, spouses learn to look ateach other this tenderly, marveling at goodness even when youthand attractiveness fade, as Francis notes. Negotiating conflicts, seeing challenges as resolvable, and appreciating the “large nest”of extended family must have been skills Jesus gained byspending most of his life in such a setting. The pope suggeststurning off mobile devices, creating conversation around thedining table. Can you and your loved ones take the challenge?

TODAY'S READINGS: Philippians 4:10-19; Luke 16:9-15 (490). “Theperson who is trustworthy in very small matters is also trustworthyin great ones.”

Adoration

The term “adoration” refers to prayer before the Blessed Sacrament exposed outside the tabernacle

for veneration by the faithful. (Adoration can also refer to

prayer before the Blessed Sacrament reposed in the Tabernacle.) Adoration by itself is an act of personal piety

and not governed by liturgical norms.

Exposition

“Exposition” is the displaying of the Blessed Sacrament outside the tabernacle in a

monstrance or ciborium for the veneration of the faithful. Exposition is a liturgical rite

and is governed by its own norms. As part of the liturgical life of the Church, exposition never takes

place simply for the private devotion of an individual.

Benediction

“Benediction” refers to the blessing given by a priest or deacon using the Blessed Sacrament in the

monstrance or ciborium. After Benediction, the Blessed Sacrament is reposed in the tabernacle.

Ask and it will be given to you; Seek and you will find;

Knock and the door will be opened for you. Matthew 7:7

Adoration Tips:

INTERESTED IN ADORATION BUT NOT SURE WHAT TO DO DURING YOUR TIME?

Meditate on prayer. Use the following quote from the Catechism of the Catholic Church: “God calls man first. Man may forget his Creator or hide far from His face; he may run after idols or accuse the deity of having abandoned him; yet the living and true God tirelessly calls each person to that mysterious encounter known as prayer. In prayer, the faithful God’s initiative of love always comes first; our own first step is always a response.” (no. 2567)

Look in your heart; look at your life. What do you want? What do you really want from God? Tell God what you need from Him during your time of prayer.

Read a passage from the Bible. Maybe it’s a Psalm; maybe it’s the readings from daily Mass; maybe it’s the readings at the upcoming Sunday Mass. Read the passage slowly. Get familiar with the text. Read the passage a second time, this time read it even slower. Very, very slowly read the passage a third time. Pay attention to which word, words, or phrases “tug” at your heart or get your attention and think about your life; think about the reality of your life. What word, words, or phrases from the Scripture passage speak to you? How does the Scripture passage connect to your life? Look deep within.

Talk to God as you would talk to your most trusted friend. Talk to God like Moses did: “The Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as one man speaks to another.” (Exodus 33: 11)

Listen. God will speak to you. Maybe God will speak to you through a thought in your head ... or a song in your heart ... or a memory ... or a desire in your body. Listen with all your senses.

Think about what can you do today, this week, to act on what God has revealed to you? Practically speaking, in your real life, what can you do?

Thank the Lord. Blessings are specific and so should our gratitude be. Tell God specifically what you’re thankful for.

Divide your time into four equal segments each devoted to meditation in a spirit of adoration, contrition, thanksgiving and supplication (prayers of intentions).

Consider appropriate devotions, such as: The Rosary The Chaplet of Divine Mercy The Stations of the Cross Lectio Divina Liturgy of the Hours/The Divine Office The Divine Praises The Te Deum Prayer Journal

Resources will be available at Church.
