Calling all saints who root for the Saints!!!

Are you still fuming over the worst officiating error in NFL history? Do you agree “the Saints got robbed”? Are you convinced the Black-&-Gold should be in Atlanta getting ready for the Super Bowl?

Have you vowed to boycott the Super Bowl because of frustration with the NFL over the whole debacle?

If so, I CAN’T BLAME YOU!

If so, here’s an idea: SPEND THAT TIME WITH THE SAINTS!! Even if you’re not a Saints fan, here’s an idea: SPEND THAT TIME WITH THE SAINTS!!

Sure, there are other ways you & your family could spend your Sunday evening. You could take your family to one of the various boycott events planned throughout the city, but is an alcohol-fueled crowd of Who-Dat’s with chips on their shoulders where a Christian ought to be? You may already have a “Boycott the Bowl” gathering planned with extended family, but what would be better: sitting around lambasting Roger Goodell & secretly checking the score when no one is looking, or turning your attention away from man’s inequities by focusing on God’s greatness?

The Super Bowl starts at 5:30. SO DOES PEW PACKERS! Even if there are no small children in your home, everyone in your family (you included) can benefit from the Bible basics that get discussed in Pew Packers every week!

Tonight’s worship service begins at 6:00. Together we will praise God in song (Colossians 3:16). Together we will hear God’s Word preached (Acts 20:7). Together we will remember the body & blood that Jesus sacrificed for us (1 Corinthians 11:23-26). Together we will contribute from the blessings God has given us to support the work of His church (1 Corinthians 16:1-2). Together we will approach God’s throne in prayer (Acts 2:42; Hebrews 4:16).

Together we will worship Him in spirit & in truth (John 4:24).

Together we will focus our attention on higher things: “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:2).

Together we will focus our attention on positive things: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there by any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Philippians 4:8).

Together we will focus our attention on important things: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:33).

Afterward, we’ll encourage one another by simply spending time together! And next week, when there is no game to boycott, we can come together & do it all again!

It is estimated that there have been more than 5 billion copies of this book printed.

Twenty million copies of this book are sold in the United States each year (almost 55,000 copies a day). That is double the number sold in 1950. I mention this because some think there is less interest in this book now than in years past. In 1995, one version of this book sold 18 million copies. This book is and has remained a best seller for decades. More than 168,000 copies of this book are sold or given to others in the United States each day. A single international group distributes almost 60 million copies of this book each year. That’s more than a 100 copies per minute. This book is sought all over the world. As an example, today sixty percent of its readers live in the developing world. In 1900, eighty percent lived in Europe and the United States. Yes, we are talking about the Bible. Have you read the greatest book ever written?

This book contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation,

the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you. It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldier’s sword, and the Christian’s charter. Here paradise is restored, heaven opened, and the gates of hell disclosed. Christ is its grand subject, our good its design, and the glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, test the heart, and guide the feet. Read it slowly, frequently, prayerfully. George Whitefield said, “God has condescended to become an author; and yet people will not read His writings. There are very few that ever gave this Book of God, the grand charter of salvation, one fair reading through.”

The Bible contains a message for every state of the mind of man:

• When we are grieved, it provides comfort (1 Thessalonians 4:18).

• When we are happy, it adds greater joy (Matthew 5:3–12; Romans 14:17; Philippians 4:4).

• When we are discouraged, it gives us courage (1 Kings 18–19; Galatians 6:9; Psalm 46:1).

• When we are lonely, it reminds us we are never alone (2 Timothy 4:17; Hebrews 13:5).

• When we are dying, it gives us assurance (Psalm 23).

God’s Word is a • Medicine when our hearts are

broken (Proverbs 4:20–23). • Fire to warm our souls (Jeremiah

23:29). • Hammer to break our addictions

(Jeremiah 23:29). • Seed to grow righteousness in our

hearts (Luke 8:11). • Sword to war against Satan and

spiritual wickedness (Hebrews 4:12).

• Honeycomb to delight our taste (Psalm 19:10).

• Light to guide us home (Psalm 119:105).

“Learn of me.” Matthew 11:29
