50 WEEKS OF PRAYER DURING OUR 50TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR

It’s the week that begins Thanksgiving, the great American holiday celebrating abundance. Our faith is rooted in giving thanks to God for all He has done for us. Our faith is strengthened when we welcome friends, fami-ly, and strangers into our homes to share a meal. And so ... LET THE FEAST BEGIN!

This weekend we close our Golden Jubilee Celebration. WE REMEMBER, WE CELEBRATE, WE BELIEVE. We REMEMBER an honored past of a community which gathered and grew in the service of Word and Sac-rament and compassionate service to one another. We CELEBRATE the presence of Jesus Christ among us. We BELIEVE that the Lord who has begun such a blessed community will continue to shower His grace upon each one of us. So we are energized to carry on into the future. May God Bless Us as we praise His holy name in our community.

Because we are God’s children we have been heavily gifted by our Loving Father! As we are God’s children we must pause and say “Thank You” for all the many good things that Our Father has given to us and out of

His abundance He continues to pour upon us. We have names for those who do not say “thank you” - perhaps “impolite” or “mean spirited” come to mind. God certainly spoils His children! We are spoiled by a God who really dotes on His children. As we do nothing to deserve the love of God, let us not take His love for granted. Pause to give thanks.

Thank you, each one who prepared the celebrations, plural, for our Fiftieth Golden Jubilee. Together we have recalled “the good old days”, remembered “the great people of our past,” and renewed our faith and commitment in the Catholic Community of St. Juliana Falconieri. Thank you for such a great year. Now, with great vigor let’s push onto the future.

When we say we believe in God, we are filled with thanks. Going forward believing in God, what thanks-giving return do you make to the Lord? A compassionate gesture of mercy to help someone is all that is asked: “I am without while you possess.” Belief and thanks-giving together mean “go out and do for others.”

Remember all the good the Lord has done for you. Celebrate by sharing your family stories, food, and welcome friends, family, and neighbors into your home. Gather together, sing St. Louis Armstrong’s song: “What a Wonderful World!” Believe that God is with us as a Good Shepherd never allowing us to stumble alone in the dark.

After every Mass next weekend a petition to introduce a California State referendum to overturn California’s Assisted Suicide law will be available for signatures of registered voters in the County of Orange. When the law goes into effect it will allow a termi-nally ill, mentally competent adult to obtain a prescription for a life-ending drug provided two doctors confirm the diagnosis and prognosis, and other safeguards are met. Simply stated, a law declares an action legal/illegal, not moral. If petitions are signed by the required number of voters and filed with the Secretary of State, a challenge to the law approved by the Legislature and Govern can be placed on the statewide ballot. It is important that voters in Orange County sign the petition and that your information is printed clearly.

Each parish is part of the Church Universal; it is the Catholic Church in a particular place. The bishops of the United States created the Na-tional Needs Collection so that, by combining resources, we can more effectively carry out our mission as Catholics. Each collection is worthy of your support. Each collection represents our community of faith at work in the world, saving souls and improving lives.

The bishops encourage us to view the National Needs Collection in the light of stewardship and of sharing. God has given us our light and our prosperity, all we need and more. It is right and just that we give something back through these collections, helping people in our own country and around the world to live better and to grow in the love of Jesus.

The Knights are collecting paper-backed books, non-liquid toi-letry items, music CD’s, and snacks for our troops stationed at Camp Dahike and Camp Losano in Afghanistan to send for Christmas. The gospel message proclaimed throughout the New Testament invites us to live in harmony with the world. This is a challenge to care for the world and be stewards of all that God has given us. Like generations before us, we are entrusted with the care of the earth so that generations to follow may enjoy the same gifts. Sometimes, however, we are absorbed into the ways of the world. When we are of the world, we rely heavily on the power of wealth, beauty, fame, and accumulation of material posses-sions. We want earthly possessions and carelessly turn our hearts from the responsibilities of stewardship and conservation.
