Team Leaders we have Nursery Nurses qualified to a minimum NVQ Level 3 Childcare (or equivalent).

The transition from home to nursery can be a big step for children of all ages, but such transition can be made

that much easier with the help of a Key Worker. Each child at Chunky Monkeys will be assigned a Key Worker

(main carer). Parents/carers are encouraged to discuss all aspects of their child’s needs, development,

routines etc with their designated Key Worker.

Collection System

We operate using a private password collection system. During child registration, parents/carers are required

to provide a unique password used solely for their child.

If the child is not to be collected by the parent/carer at the end of the session, an agreed procedure, the

‘password’ system must be followed to identify the nominated adult.

No child should be handed over to anyone other than the known parent/carer unless an agreement has been

made at the time of arrival. On the departure, the children’s register must be immediately marked to show the

child has left the premises.

The setting is based on two levels consisting of two managers offices, a kitchen, two toilet and nappy changing

areas, a children’s dining hall, six classrooms and Sensory Room. Our ground floor is occupied by the under

two’s, kitchen and dining hall. The first floor consists of our remaining four classrooms and sensory Room.

Children are divided into groups based on their age and ability.

Hippo Room: 1:3 ratio Age 6 weeks – 14 months (or walking confidently)

Our baby room is comfortable and well equipped with age appropriate resources. We have a separate sleep

room of six cots, nappy changing room and feeding zone. Parents receive a daily log of their child’s feeding,

eating, sleeping, toileting and learning activities, so you can be confident your baby will experience a nurturing

and calming environment, focused on developing positive and trusting relationships.

Giraffe Room: 1:3 Ratio Age 14 months – 24 months

Walking changes everything. Tour toddler wants to go everywhere and do everything. At Chunky Monkeys,

our highly trained Nursery Nurses take great care to create a well-charted toddler territory geared for

exploration, excitement and exercise. Our hands on childcare programs cover as much ground as possible to

help shape your toddler’s brain, personality, behaviour and health.

Elephant & Monkey: 1:4 Ratio Age 2 years – 3 years

Our program for the 2 to 3 year olds offer children a secure, loving environment, with an established routine

and schedule. Weekly themes are introduced which incorporate their developmental goals. This begins the

process of a structured day where planned educational activities and creative play-time offer a balance in your

2 year olds development.

Lion Room: 1:8 Ratio Age 3+ years

Our pre-school room is led by Nursery Director Helen Morgan. Helen is a fully qualified Primary School

Teacher with over 17 years teaching experience. We follow the Foundation Phase Curriculum, which is the

statutory curriculum for all 3-7 year olds attending a state school in Wales. Registered with both CIW &

ESTYN, our pre-school room receives regular inspections, the same way as a school, to ensure our

Foundation Phase curriculum adheres to the right standards set out by these governing bodies.

Flamingo Room 1:8 Ratio Age Reception to 12 years

Our wrap around care provides the perfect combination of recreation and education. In our safe environment,

your child will be presented with opportunities for fun, socialising and learning - they’ll get some exercise,

create projects, participate in group activities and much more. Through activities such as field trips, reading,

cooking, music and art, your child will explore themes like animals and the environment, science and

experiments, world cultures, fitness, cultural events and lots more.

Outside PlayChunky Monkeys Day Nursery cherishes its environment and respects its tools. We understand that children

like to dig. Hence, we have created a large sandpit and rubber construction zone. We have also grown and will

continue to nurture a garden full of mud and edible herbs, vegetables and fruits.

Children like to run, they like to climb and they like to be imaginative. Thus, Chunky Monkeys outside play are

has been carefully constructed to include a safe, artificial grass environment for children to run. We have

installed a large wooden climbing play structure where they can exert energy in a fun and productive way.

Also, as learning through role-play is so important during a child’s early years education, we have installed a

play house, wooden mud kitchen, pirate ship and outdoor classroom to help assist in the development of our

children’s imaginations.

Outside Play Safety- Outside play must be supervised accordingly. Staff: Child ratios must be adhered to at all times.

- Prior to the children being allowed outside a member of staff must check that the area is secure and

there are no hazards e.g. broken glass etc

- During hot weather, protective lotions and clothing must be available – provided by the parents.

- Wellington boots and rain coats will be required so the children can have access to the outdoors

whatever the weather.
