The Chun Wo Innovation Student Awards

Engineers save the worldChun Wo invites all full-time university students to take initiative, use their own creativity, and propose a practical innovative engineering solution that can contribute to addressing sustainable development issues in developing countries. The winning teams of up to 8 students each will be eligible for a team cash prize of up to HK$100,000, and will also be eligible to have Chun Wo provide support for their idea and transform it into a sustainable business. The award process begins on 22 February, with the final proposals submitted by 20 April 2018.

BackgroundThe world population was estimated to have reached 7.5 billion in April 2017, with 95% of this in developing or underdeveloped countries. With the world now being more connected than ever, we must learn new ways to solve problems in the developing world through:

• Effectiveinnovationandapplicationofengineeringandtechnology• Tacklingglobalissueslikepovertyreduction,sustainabledevelopmentandclimatechange• Urgentlydevelopinggreenerengineeringandlowercarbontechnology

Oneprofessionwithaveryimportantroletoplayisengineering.Engineersareresponsibleforestablishingthebuildingblocksofcivilizationthat allow people to live safely, prosper, and connect in ways previously impossible. Chun Wo understands that recognizing and empowering the next generation of innovators is key to addressing these issues over the long term.

The briefing offers prospective nominees all the information needed about the awards, including background and objectives, rules and procedures for participating, and an opportunity to have your questions answered.
