What’s the big deal with

Waste?Why recycle?

Recycling pRogRam pRoposal

It’s not that cashmere is bad at man-aging waste within the school. It is how we are throwing it away that is the problem.

- cashmere High school goes through 12 m3 of rub-bish each week. 3 m3 is recycled.

- in the general waste skips that are collected weekly 15% (+/- 4%) could be recycled.

- The waste collection system in place now costs $3500 a month. That’s $42000 a year.

FACTS:

it is important to recycle on a daily basis to help soci-ety and ultimately help clean up our damaged earth. every small gesture can help the earth and overall quality of life.

it is important to recycle on a daily basis to help our society and ultimately help clean up our damaged

earth. every small gesture can help the earth and overall quality of life.

We needed a new, smarter plan that reduces waste. We want to build systems that make it easy and cost effective for all of us to reduce our waste.

over Term one of 2012 at cashmere High school the sustainability council wants to put into place a re-cycling program that is well managed and will reduce general waste and upgrade recycling.

This proposal will show you how we will reduce the environmental impact our school has on our planet by starting a recycling program.

Green Recycling Program

Heres how the system works...

Our Resolution to our recycling problem is to place one of these bins in each class :)

each bin costs $4.99 from the warehouse and there are 100 classrooms at cash-mere. if each classroom were to get one of these bins it would only cost $499, eas-ily raised at a school mufti day or charity event.

The sustainability council would like to raise all the money at there charity event “The Big lunch out” (info in “Big lunch out proposal”).

on each box would be an a4 poster with all the appropriate do’s and don’ts of paper recycling (resource a).

The sustainability council would also like to make a dedicated video all about recycling for students and staff to watch.

Heres Our Vision

The sustainability Council wants to Save our planet

our planet is precious because it is one of a kind. The sustainability council wants to do everything it can to make sure we protect our planet by making steps towards a more sustainable future.

putting a recycling program alone won’t save our planet but every little bit helps. This recycling program is the first of many steps towards making a difference.

our school has the ability to make a big mark on how the rest of schools tackle their rubbish

problems. By taking the first step we are a role model and a frame work for how other schools will decide on putting together there own plan of action.

our motto is “change today for tomorrow”. it is based on a statement that we were told, “yesterday was the best time to make a difference, Today is even better”.

We want to change the recycling program today so we have a better future tomorrow and for future generations.

We want our future to be the best that we can make it, That means making a difference now.
