Chromolaena odorata is a species of flowering shrub in the sunflowerfamily, Asteraceae. It is native to North America, from Florida andTexas to Mexico and the Caribbean,[1] and has been introduced totropical Asia, west Africa, and parts of Australia. Common namesinclude Siam Weed, Christmas Bush, and Common Floss Flower. Itis sometimes grown as a medicinal and ornamental plant. It is used as atraditional medicine in Indonesia. The young leaves are crushed, andthe resulting liquid can be used to treat skin wounds.
It was earlier taxonomically classified under the genus Eupatorium, butis now considered more closely related to other genera in the tribeEupatorieae.[2]
Chromolaena odorata is considered invasive weed of field crops in itsintroduced range, and has been reported to be the most problematicinvasive species within protected rainforests in Africa.[3]
