DO'S DON'TS Merry Christmas Remember that office parties are about rewarding employees and celebrating achievements, but they remain strictly business events. You can have a few drinks but remember to still conduct yourself professionally and with sober thought. Proper decorum and etiquette is a must. Network with employees that can positively influence your career. Be sure to know exactly who is invited and attending. Know what policies are in place for transport to and from the venue, what is provided, and what code of conducts may be in effect. Keep conversations light and upbeat and avoid controversial subjects. Try and keep one hand free for handshakes. Keep your hands to yourself and avoid inappropriate behaviour. Especially if your significant other is attending as a guest. Try and mix with your entire team rather than only sticking to your close friends from work. ENJOY YOURSELF! Everyone wants to have fun but common sense is crucial here! Drink excessively just because of an open bar. It can be tempting, but moderation and common sense is key. Forget to thank the person in charge of planning the event, as well as top management for hosting it. Spend the entire event talking business or complaining about work. This includes talking about people you don't like. Wear revealing attire. A Christmas party is a work event so be conservative. Wear your nightclub/disco/most revealing attire. A Christmas party is a work event so be conservative. Dominate the conversation or boast about your achievements incessantly. Miss the party without a reasonable RSVP. It could hurt your reputation. Make it compulsory for all staff to attend, nor discipline them at the party. Save it for a sober chat back at the office. Become unduly intoxicated or condone the use of drugs or illegal activity.
