WELCOME!

We have selected a variety of readings for you tonight from modernIrish poetry to classic short stories familiar to all of you. We haveincluded a short story written by Irish actor Sheelagh Cullen("Christmas in our House") and read by the author herself tonight;two poems by Kerry poet Siobhan de Bhal; and Hans ChristianAndersen’s "The Little Match Girl." Some of what you will heartonight includes: "‘Twas the Night before Christmas," "The Magic ofChristmas," "Journey of the Magi," and "Mrs. Fogarty’s Cake!" TheKerry Voice Squad will sing traditional carols, including "Carol ofthe Bells," "The Boar’s Head," and "The Twelve Days of Christmas."Added to this will be superb dance from The Kerry Dance Troupeled by world champion dancer Tyler Schwartz and traditional musicfrom The Kerry Traditional Orchestra. Artist Biographies

Sheelagh Cullen

Actor

Sheelagh Cullen was born in Limerick andcame to Los Angeles from Hong Kong,where she ran a theater company for 10years. Previously, she had worked in theater

and television in both England and her native Ireland. She appearedin the Dublin and London productions of Children of the Wolf,played Ophelia in a production of Hamlet at the Dublin TheatreFestival and was in Edna O’Brien’s Pagan Place at the Royal CourtTheatre. Her television appearances included Sonya in Uncle Vanyaopposite Cyril Cusack and the title role in Eveline with DonalDonnelly. In Los Angeles, she has worked at Stages Theatre,Shakespeare Festival/LA, Theatricum Botanicum, LA TheatreWorks, Working Stage Theatre and the Odyssey Theatre. Earlierthis year, she appeared in Beckett’s Come and Go and Footfalls andhas gotten back to her Irish roots, both in The Heart of anIrishwoman and as narrator and storyteller in a series of Irishconcerts with Kerry Irish Productions Inc.

Koral Aakre

Soprano (The Kerry Voice Squad)

Koral Aakre moved to Los Angeles fromCoos Bay, located on the beautiful southernOregon coast. She comes from a family ofsingers and began voice lessons from her

father at age seven. Koral is well known in Oregon’s Bay Area. Shewas a dancer and singer in Oregon’s Little Opry on the Bay. Upongraduation from high school, she toured the East Coast for one yearwith Lutheran Youth Encounter’s christian rock band, CaptiveFree. She returned to Oregon to earn a degree in vocalperformance from Southern Oregon University, where she studiedopera. She performed with the Rogue Opera, Opera in the Streets,Brava Opera Workshop, SOU Chamber and Concert Choir, and theSouthern Oregon Repertory Singers. Prior to moving to LosAngeles, she worked as a campaign manager and legislativeassistant for Senator Arnie Roblan. She was honored to singmultiple times for the Oregon Legislative Assembly. Working in theOregon Legislature was an honor and a privilege, but singing washer passion, so she headed to Los Angeles, where she auditioned forher first season with An Irish Christmas. She loves performing withKerry Irish Productions and is excited to perform in other projectswith the company. Koral is the great great-granddaughter ofBridgette Conlon, who emigrated from Ireland as a mail orderbride. Koral has become more rooted in her Irish heritage sincejoining the company, and her grandmother, Bernyce, would burstwith pride to hear her sing today.

Colm Alba

Dancer (The Kerry Dance Troupe)

Colm Alba began dancing at the age of fourwith the Kinsella Academy of Irish Dance,founded by his brother, Ryan, and sister-in-law, Brigid. Throughout his dancing career,

he has competed at both the national and world stage levels,winning awards in both solos and team competitions, placing in thetop 10 on several occasions. Becoming Kinsella Academy’s first Mid-America Oireachtas Champion is his most prized accomplishment.Colm has also performed on the theater stage in numerous highschool and college productions. He is looking forward to graduatingin May from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse with a degree inhistory education. Colm is very excited to be a part of Christmasfrom a Celtic Table and hopes to continue his passion for Irishdancing in the future.

Emily MacConnell

Principal Dancer (The Kerry Dance Troupe)

Emily MacConnell. Hailing fromLancaster, California, Emily MacConnelldanced under the direction of the ButlerFearon O'Connor School of Irish Dance and

reached competitive highs of 8th in the world, 3rd nationally, 3rd atthe All-Scotland championships, and 1st regionally (Western U.S.and Southern England). Since earning a B.A. from the University ofSouthern California School of Dramatic Arts, she has danced andtoured in the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Taiwan with a multitude ofshows, including the most recent: Michael Flatley’s Feet of Flames:The Impossible Tour. She is very excited and grateful to dance inChristmas from a Celtic Table as principal dancer!

Tyler Schwartz

Principal Dancer (The Kerry Dance Troup)

Tyler Schwartz has been Irish dancing forthe past 20 years; competing, performingand spreading the art form. He was named“Man of the Year” by Irish Dancing

Magazine. A World Champion, Tyler has also competed and won theAll-Ireland, North American, Great Britain, and the All-ScotlandChampionships. He has been the lead dancer in many productions,including Rockin’ Road to Dublin, Busch Gardens' Celtic Fyre,Gaelforce Dance, and Celtic Wings. Tyler gained global attention asInstagram’s St. Patrick’s Day featured dancer. Since then, he hasbeen highlighted in a NowThis video, as well as BuzzFeed, andothers! He is a brand ambassador for Capezio dancewear, takingIrish dance to the mainstream stage!

Rosa Evangelina

Mezzo Soprano (The Kerry Voice Squad)

Rosa Evangelina is a vocalist and poetbased in Los Angeles. This is her secondseason with The Kerry Voice Squad. Sherecently performed with CalArts Opera

Theater, Pacific Opera Project, Brown Fist Productions, and SantaMonica College Opera Theater. Her opera and operetta creditsinclude Kopernikus, The Dream Maker, Die Zauberflöte, GianniSchicchi, Suor Angelica, Carmen, Il Campanello, The Pirates ofPenzance, and Utopia, Limited. Recent highlights includeperforming scores by artist Jimena Sarno and composer AxelKrygier at MASS MoCA and the role of Xochiquetzal in El CircoAnahuac, a new opera in Spanish, English, and Nahuatl by DavidReyes with libretto by Maria Elena Yepes. With the support of theMichael C. Rockefeller Fellowship, Rosa lived for a year inMozambique where she collaborated with several local ensembles.Born in Mexico and raised in Ontario, California, Rosa is an alumnaof Opera NEO, OperaWorks, and the LA Valley College appliedmusic program. She is currently pursuing an MFA in Voice Arts andCreative Writing at the California Institute of the Arts and holds aBA in History and Literature from Harvard University.

MaryAnn DiPietro is excited to join KerryIrish Productions for Christmas from aCeltic Table! Most recently, MaryAnn hasperformed as Donna in Mamma Mia to rave

reviews and sold out shows on both coasts. Some other favorite pastperformances include: National Tour of Buddy, The Buddy HollyStory; Company; Grease; Jesus Christ Superstar; A Christmas Carol;and The Sound of Music. In addition to stage, MaryAnn can be seenon TV, film and in commercials. MaryAnn is a pianist and animprov/sketch performer and writer. She is a graduate of The OhioState University. Thanks to the Cast, Friends, Family, Joe andRocco!

Dr. Patricia Hannifan

Piano

Dr. Patricia Hannifan is an Instructor atLos Angeles City and Valley Colleges and a

staff accompanist at Los Angeles Valley College. She is currentlythe organist and music director for our Saviour’s Lutheran Church,Long Beach as well as a freelance piano and organ accompanist inthe greater Los Angeles area. Dr. Hannifan also teaches piano andorgan and coaches singers in her private studio. She has workedwith Kerry Irish Productions as vocal coach/chorus mistress since2009. Her achievements include being a four-time award winner ofthe Artistic Director Achievement Award for “Best Music Director”by the Valley Theater League for her work with the Woodland Hills

Community Theatre; The Fantasticks (1998), The All Night Strut!(2001), The Taffetas (2006), and Nunsense (2009). As a foundingpartner of the LAVC SummerFest, a summer performing artsfestival produced cooperatively by the music, theatre, and dancedepartments of Los Angeles Valley College, she served as themusical director for the inaugural performance of Kander and Ebb’sCabaret in the summer of 2010; and the 2011 performance ofAnything Goes by Cole Porter. Dr. Hannifan holds a DMA in organperformance from University of California, Los Angeles, a master’sdegree in organ performance from the Flora L. Thorton School ofMusic at the University of Southern California, and a bachelor’sdegree in music from California State University, Northridge.

Jesse Langen

Guitar

Jesse Langen is a guitarist who plays avariety of styles of music. He has beenfeatured with the Chicago SymphonyOrchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and

recently in I am Ireland on PBS. Jesse and his brother, Tim, grew uplearning fiddle tunes from their grandfather, Clarence, and thatgrounding laid the foundation for Jesse’s approach to traditionalmusic. In Irish music, he can be heard regularly in sessions aroundChicago, as well as in the band Compas with his brother Tim andbodhrán player Amy Richter. In other styles of music, he can beheard in Chicago, throughout the country, and elsewhere in theworld, with Ensemble Dal Niente, in Hasco Duo with sopranoAmanda DeBoer Bartlett, in Soundboard with harpist Ben Melsky,and in Katet with singer/songwriter Katie Jimoh and percussionistTim Mulvenna. He teaches guitar and composition at ChicagoAcademy for the Arts.

Evelyn Thom

Fiddle

Evelyn Thom. Hailing from Chicago, EvelynThom is a multi-instrumentalist. She wasthrilled to open for Lúnasa with the IrishMusic School of Chicago, and for Socks in

the Frying Pan with the Shepherd School of Music. At a solo level,Evelyn has competed at the All-Ireland many times and holdsseveral regional medals from the Midwest Fleadh, winning the goldstandard in 2020. She was also a youth scholarship recipient for theSwannanoa Gathering, Scoil Éigse, and the Francis O’Neill IrishArts week. Evelyn started fiddle lessons at nine years of age andnow studies with Sean Cleland and Rachel Brown on fiddle/violin.Evelyn also studies with Jesse Langen on Irish and jazz guitar. Sheattributes her success, in part, to the teachings of Liz Carroll, DylanFoley, Oisín Mac Diarmada, James Kelly, Martin Hayes, LizKnowles, Devin Shepherd, and Marta Cook. Currently, Evelynteaches her own students in the Chicago metropolitan area.

Evelyn has enjoyed performing around Chicago and on the gig rigstages at the All-Ireland Fleadh. She frequents local sessions and

has competed with bands from the Irish Music School of Chicago,the Shepherd School of Music, and the Center for Irish Music fromMinnesota. Additionally, her music can be heard on all social mediaplatforms, including the podcast For No Reason, hosted by HollieGreenwood and herself. She is the 2019 winner of the IrelandAgency Award in recognition of her passionate work with theChicago music community as teacher, performer and artist. Evelynbegan studying music performance at Cornish College of the Artsthis year and is excited to continue playing, learning, performing,and teaching music for the rest of her life!

Steve Morrow brings genre bending, multi-instrumental experience to the bodhrán ashe blends modern and traditional rhythmsinto the heartbeat and backbone of his

music. Steve is a founding member of the Chicago-based bandSTEAM and has performed nationally at festivals and events withBackWest, The Kilgubbin Irish Music All-Stars, and áthas.
