LIGHTING OF THE CANDLES

OPENING PRAYER Reverend Joey McDonald

ADVENT WREATH CANDLE LIGHTING CEREMONY (The Candle of Love)

Light of Hope: The Gift of Love Joel Raney

Liturgists: Elizabeth, Chad, Annabeth, Emma and Henry Rose (8:30) Dyane and Andy De Paolis (11:00)

Responsive Litany:

Love is more than a flicker within the human heart. Lord, reveal your love and make us new. In a hurried world with little time for others, Advent calls us to remember that... Love is patient. In a world where often we become consumed by our own interests, Advent calls us to remember that... Love is kind. In a world where often we are quick to anger and slow to forgive, Advent calls us to remember that... Love is not easily angered, and through love we come to forgive. This Advent let us behold the love of God embodied in our Savior's birth. God is love. Whoever lives in love, lives in God, and God in them.

ABOUT THE CHRISTMAS CANTATA

In a panoramic view of Christmas we see the majesty, the color, the sounds, and even the solemnity

of this glorious season! We witness the anguish of God's chosen people as it gives way to joy in the

fulfillment of an eternal promise–that God would send a Messiah to save them. The entire spectrum of

God's love and grace is on full display in the story of Christmas.

But the message of Christmas is not solely for a people who lived long ago. It is a message that our

world needs to hear today. It is for young and old alike, for people of every tribe and nation regardless

of one's station in life. The Christmas story is filled with hope, promise, wonder, majesty, and mystery.

It is a perpetual reminder that in the darkest moments of life, the brilliance of the eternal Light of Christ

has entered our world to guide us on the journey of life and faith.

So, sing the songs of Christmas! Celebrate its message and embrace this gracious gift from God:

Jesus becoming human and living among us for a while so that we might live eternally with our

Creator. This is the glory of Christmas!

STEPHEN MINISTRY – “It’s the most wonderful time of the year,” so they say. However, for many folks, Christmas can be a difficult time of the year for all sorts of reasons. And the holiday season only magnifies and intensifies our difficulties. Few of us understand the emotional pain and hurt that many people suffer during the Christmas season, pain caused by such things as a death in the family, loss of a job, loss of a marriage or relationship, financial collapse, loneliness, depression, or family problems. Plus, many people

suffer during this time of the year due to stress that is triggered by the holiday season itself. How about you? Are you facing a difficult Christmas season? You do not have to walk this path alone. Stephen Ministry is here to help. Contact Mary Ellen Parks, 843.368.1852, or Sara Jenkins, 843.298.2076, to discuss finding relief from the turmoil the holidays may cause.

MIRACLE JARS –December jars will be going to UMC Alabama-West Florida Conference for Hurricane Michael relief. It is no longer in the news, but there is still a great need. The conference has received some grants from UMCOR, and other grants pending, but that will not cover all that has to be done. 100% of any money donated will go directly to helping those affected by the hurricane in Port St. Joe, Marianna, and Panama City. It will take many months and in some areas, years to recover. There is also a great need for volunteers to help with rebuilding. If anyone is interested, the information for volunteering is on the website-www.awfumc.org.

Carrefour Friends – Kindness – Compassion has become a trendy term, but it is really just another

word for kindness. Whatever word we use, we know instinctively that kindness is its own reward, and kindness helps us deal with sorrows and burdens of life. All of this the Bible affirms, but with this added thought: We should show kindness because God does. As God extends kindness to us, we need to be kind not only to the people we know but also to those we don’t.

It is comforting to know that we may be of help to the elderly in ways that we don’t even realize. As I was leaving a visit to a care facility, an elderly woman reached out and grabbed my arm. “You don’t

know what your visit meant to me today. You came because you wanted to, not because you were paid to.” I have always remembered her comment and have come to realize that you can make a difference in this world if you don’t care who gets the credit. Just do it for the sake of kindness.

It is an incredible comfort to seniors living in care facilities to get a friendly visit during the holidays. If you are interested in becoming a friend for someone who really needs one, please contact us at [email protected] or call Jackie Tuohig at 913.748.5929.

Carrefour Friends……care for friends.

BRUNCH BUNCH will meet on TODAY, Dec. 16th at 12:30, Moss Creek Club House. Cash only!

BLANKETS, TOWELS, DOG & CAT BEDS, ANYTHING FOR ANIMALS – Larry Russell is collecting items for animals who are at shelters. Half of the animals are all outside during the winter. He needs blankets, etc. to put in their dog houses. If you can contribute, please bring items to church on any Sunday and leave it in the narthex. Thanks!!

A FLOWER CHART has been placed on the wall in the fellowship hall. Please take a moment and sign up to donate flowers in honor of/or memory of your loved ones. A donation of $50 to cover the cost of the flowers is greatly appreciated. In appreciation of your donation, we welcome you to take one or both arrangements with you. Get the date you want now!
